Repetition is very important. Well that explains why I keep coming back to this video.

Time signature changing on the fly, and going from odd to even to odd- MAN! But it's all planned out, and, all though you don't always hear it, there's a steady 1,2,1,2...click, click, click, click.... count going on the whole time so everyone is in synch, despite having the down beat on the up beat, then back on the down beat... this can only work with a dead-steady drummer, i.e., Jojo, who's like a machine. This is fascinating, and so inventive! I've only listened to it once, so now I'll have to listen to it a few times, because it's fascinating/strange- I LOVE it! This is MUSIC creation - you have to always look for a new and unique thing that nevertheless somehow makes sense. This one is like walking up a flight of stairs that have short rises, then a group of taller rises, then even taller rises, then back to short rises, then maybe really tall rises, next... - etc. SO cool!

What a presentation?!!! This piece rules!! A nod to Steve Reich's Different Trains?! I'd say so. This is easily my favorite thing on KZbin. Almost none of my friends seem to like it which I always take as an sound endorsement for the real shit. I've been watching this repeatedly since it was first released. I would have loved to have been in attendance for this epic. Jojo Mayer is always so masterful and that Jack Quartet, totally crush it. Bravo!!!

What a fantastic piece! It sounds wildly difficult on multiple levels. The combination of recorded voice discussing getting into a groove with the drummer and string quartet moving through different beat patterns and/or tempi (I couldn’t tell if it was metric modulation or actual changes in tempo) is really provocative and fun. The drummer is the embodiment of physical ease and cool. Very impressive! I loved the staging with the circular light configuration. It’s so smart of the person who filmed the performance to shoot from above as well as from the audience’s perspective!
