I do get stable 60FPS in FS 2020 with 2K monitor at 1440p and 144hz. The same hardware just my card is RTX 3080. Actually the game itself is limited to 60FPS, I am sure if they release the FPS in game code, my FPS will maxed out to 120-130 FPS. I do get 144 FPS in Xplane with the same quality settings provided on this video. I believe graphic cards are not ready to handle more than 40 FPS for such a game in 4K monitors resolution yet. Maybe RTX 5000 series of nvidia in the future.

I'm using a pretty good, but not great gaming laptop with 3.4 GHz processor and 1080 graphics card. I was really struggling with X-plane until I turned off the AI airplanes and that gained me 20-30 FPS with settings the same as yours. I don't know what the effect of AI traffic is in FS 2020 since I haven,t turned it on, but in X-plane, it's dramatic.

Thanks for the test. But why not testing with airliners which we all know have a much bigger impact on the fps. Also you sould choose overcast for the weather preset. All this stuff will kill the fps.

1:03 Hard to tell from viewing the video on a phone but the mention of ORBX scenery made me think this could be XP11. Then I saw the head-to-head takeoff by another GA plane and a big jet landing directly overhead. At that moment, I INSTANTLY* knew this was MSFS 2020. 😉 Great video. You have a stout PC. In my opinion, worth every penny. I tinker a lot to get FPS - thanks for the practical tips.

hey q8 pilot, please read this info about your cpu. You did now overclock your cpu, you downclocked. the stock turbo speed for this cpu is 5.3 ghz and you said in the video that you "overclocked" to 5.1 ghz. A decent overclock would be to like 5.5 ghz but this cpu is probably not needing a overclock because it is a really good cpu and this cpu tends to get pretty hot. you might be able to get a better framerate by putting the speed to normal.

The 4K monitor will require power from the GPU for sure, but then you can seriously lower AA settings as you do not need them with 4K monitor.

Thank you Patrick and happy new year to you my friend. The 3090 offers only 20% more FPS in both simulation platforms. However, it is a robust card capable of delivering 8K video with ease. If you have other work you do on your PC such as massive rendering and video production, the 3090 is worth it. Otherwise stick with the 3080.

Think I'll wait a bit longer for the availability to increase, and then get a better buy. The lower end 3080's sell for around US$ 1 250.00 over here in reputable retailers, that's around NZ$ 1 700.00, so patience will be the key to saving some $$$$$. I will try those out. My 3090 should arrive Monday or Tuesday. I have the HP Reverb G2 to try and already play on flat using the same resolution as you but with an Asus RoG 34" monitor. I plan to upgrade to the Samsung G9 49" monitor at the same resolution soon. I still prefer X-Pane for flying but the MSFS eye candy is nice too.

Hey Bro, good information! Any way, I have a i9 10900K 5.3GHz, 32GB SDRAM, RTX3080. I get 50 Mbps on my internet connection that is hardwired to my router. My issue is that most areas with buildings have this triangular look to them at distance. Could this be my internet connection or game settings? I run 3840x2160, mostly high to ultra settings. I will try your settings next. Any way, any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

The one thing that can trip up people is add-on sceneries, weather injectors and payware planes can all cause degradation to fps rates.

I have realized with xPlane that AA takes an exponential toll. Even more than any other sim. What works very well for me and gives me a constant above 30 fps (with ortho, payware everything even Ai)) is to use DSR and use a higher resolution than my ultrawide monitor so I can lower AA but have everything else on MAX. There are no jagged edges thanks to the higher resolution but less perf hit because of lower AA. AA is the real issue. If you take a flight through the clouds using ASXP in a populated area, the gain in fps when dropping AA is very substantial even at higher resolution. Works for my 4k monitor too but don't use it because once you go ultrawide, even 4k isn't good anymore. Rig:9900k @5.0 Ghz, 2080 Ti, 32 GB RAM.

Thank you for these tricks. I unfortunately can't seem to find MSFS in my Control Panel. I can however add the URL Shortcut (I bought the game via Steam) but I doubt that it works. Any Ideas?

I think you could right-click the shortcut and choose filemap in the menu, navigate there, and then find the .executable. Or right-ckick select properties and locate the .exe file. When you've found the .exe location just use browse in Nvidia Control panel. Of course after adding 'new application' (FS2020).

Weird, cause I have the latest windows and Nvidia drivers and using a zotac 3090, fortunately turning game mode off did give me about 8 fps. Now flying over athens greece gives me 50 fps on ultra and 1440p on a 34 inch ultrawide predator. Thank you very much for your dedication and great work.

Q8 you are awesome however issue with MSFS is jetliners not GA. I see a lot of performance tweak videos using GA examples and showing great performance/no stutters. Would love for you to show the same video using 320Nx. Also as an FYI, the part on GPU scheduling is not relevant for us still running Win 1909. I've been avoiding the newer versions until they iron out the kinks.

Allocated VRAM is not actually used VRAM, so you cannot rely on those numbers.

Knowing the difference between allocated and used memory would already be a good start. No need to blame him, chill out. A 3080ti would be very expensive and very hard to find for at least another 6 months.

I don't undertand yet why there is such concern about FPS. Human eye cannot see more than 25fps (hence fps in a normal movie is 26), a simulator that runs with 30fps should be quite enough. I am more concerns about jittering and stuttering (which cause a micro-pause that bothers on the long distance). Thank you for your video though. It's been very interesting for my case.
