the fact him himself, MARK, wrote this song, makes it so understandable in a way. how i interpret it- he’s youth was based on being perfect. he debuted at 16, being a leader for one unit and being in two other units as well. i could imagine how much comments he’s seen or had to deal with through his time in life being an idol at such a young age. furthermore it makes sense how people forget he started out as a child. though he’s an adult now he did so much for being an idol when was young and ppl forget that he’s still growing up!

He was literally a CHILD when the world demanded so much from him. He loves what he's doing but there's just too much pressure on him. I hope people would understand that our idols are human too, and some being a CHILD as well. The lyrics hit harder when you know that he really went through with that. 🥺 I'm happy and proud of everything MARK has become. He really grew up so well. 💚💚

He did not self write and self composed the song. He's the 4th person in the list for composing credits and the 3rd person for writing credits. Mark himself acknowledged the other people that worked with him on the song. I wish my fellow nctzens would stop spreading false information and acknowledge all the other people that work hard to support our boys and create amazing music

Some fun facts: the feathers exploding all over the couch scene towards the end with Mark is a reference to We Go Up, when he was no longer considered a 'child' because he graduated from Dream! Also the producer that worked on this song with Mark also produced UN Village for Baekhyun!
@kiwigirl2273
@kiwigirl2273 2 жыл бұрын
Awww, We Go Up has such a deeper meaning now😢 I still remember watching the music video when it first came out, and despite how upbeat and hopeful it sounds, knowing that it was his last one with NCT DREAM made things much more sentimental. It’s really good he’s back with them and so cool that he included a homage from that video since I think that was probably a pivotal moment for him: when everyone could “officially” call him an adult, despite the fact that he was already doing a lot before then when he started at 16. So maybe he wasn’t even treated as a child since 2016, and may as well have been an adult already, which goes back to what he says in his song. Sometimes we just forget these things, I guess

That's a great call back to a great song, love that detail. And I love how, in the MV, Mark is both the one inside trashing the apartment and also standing outside on the street as "the other him" is throwing things out the window. We all have multiple selves and it feels like Mark is almost having a conversation within himself. Even in a relatively simple MV like this there is are so many layers and symbols. UN Village is still one of my all time fav solo debuts. And dress (the producer) worked with Mark on his songs for High School Rapper way back in 2017. It's lovely too see how Mark (and Taeyong and others) find people they love to work with over and over for years.

I definitely agree with your interpretation. although mark probably had a different childhood from the rest of us, he definitely had expectations to live up to. He came to Korea alone at such a young age with the pressure or working hard so that he could debut, and then when he made his debut, he was given the leader role. Seeing by the way mark has talked about this release, the song and lyrics mean a lot to him and I’m so proud that it came out so well😊

I’ve seen him randomly sing in a lot of nct content so I was excited that he put his vocals into the song. He can do any genre. I think a lot of people forget or are unaware that Mark got into SM as a vocal.

as a grown up, i viewed child in the perspective of vulnerability; that being an adult does not necessarily equate to being invincible, and that many of us are still scared and in doubt of our decisions no matter what our age is. at the same time, child is like a much needed hug reminding us that it's ok to be vulnerable and that it's never too late to learn and be stronger.

I was waiting for your reaction Jeff 🥺 Mark wrote it like a long time ago when he was kinda sad i guess 😔 . All those garbage and littering in the mv is referring to the trash talk and hate comments. The spotlight was always with him no matter how much he run and the trash talker will always chased him . They say Mark was called Sm fav and people were harsh to him because he was in every unit and got many lines and many screen time than their bias. But honestly why blame him for that though? Also who in the sane mind would let a child wrote his own rap and give complete flow freedom for every single big comeback and for like every title track? Sm made him have and do all that because he is that effing talented! God He won SM best trainee every single year voted by the whole sm staff! I feel so sad listening to CHILD coz i know Mark is really sentimental despite the jolly fun personality he has. He was only 13 when he came to korea crying and leaving everything behind. Also as you can see he is the busiest being A leader, A rapper, A dancer, A lyricist, Composer, producer and what not. Mark truly is the most hardworking Men ever. Our Ace 💚

This song both surprised and didn't surprise me at all. Mark is practically attached to his guitar in his free time, he sings randomly all day long and look at the music he listens to all the time... I've said it before and I'll say it again, Mark is a poet. He thinks deeply about everything around him and I especially love that line "I'm alert, it's a curse, yeah it hurts" I love how he is certainly speaking from his own experience (few people outside of his profession could understand the demands and pressure) but it is so relatable to all of us because we all have to balance the expectations of others with the need to figure out who we are for ourselves and what we think. We all have nightmares and the images of being chased in his dreams... we all get that right? And I love the Dream references because it's at the core of NCT concept and a good reminder that the unconscious mind is not always a comfortable place. (And Mark has had more expectations and judgements than most of us, who is more objectified than an idol?? Who has more people projecting their wants, thoughts and expectations on them more than these performers?) I don't feel sad listening to the song lyrics at all though. I feel they are so liberating, so honest, and they give strength by looking at the big questions right in the face. Mark is such an honest, grounded person. I always get a lot of peace listening to him because he speaks and writes with integrity. I know this song was written a few years back (he said it was one of many in the "archive") and he has many many more songs in him. I am really looking forward to what we will get with NCT Lab. We know that both Mark and Taeyong are prolific writers, Kun is always working on songs and Ten has already done multiple Station songs, the solo/duet stages at the 127 concert are just a glimpse of the depth and breadth of what could be done, not to mention Yangyang, Jeno, Jaemin, Hendery, Jisung and others have all written on songs before. It's only a matter of time and this will be a great platform for all of them I hope.

As fan not only am I am happy to here more music but proud of mark and his achievements and success. To me this song means of when he debuted he was only 16 but coming to a new country as a young preteen discovering the unknown in the entertainment business but life. Even though he is his young twenties he feels like a child but the pressure of pleasing everyone while still remaining calm collected and being the eye of the celebrity and face of the NCT brand. In the scene you see him running it could be from celebrity life or all eyes are on him but wants to be the best person he can be. Goooo Mark 💚

For me, I feel sad when hear this song because the lyrics being written by Mark. Imagine, he debuted at the age of 17 and needed to be debut in three different unit that same year. Thats sound very hard tho. He also being a participant in High School Rap to gather some experience and challenge himself, and the first thing he got there is he being looked down by most of the people there just becaus he is an idol. And also dont forget that he is one of the best SM trainee in such a young age and we all know SM really have an high expectation towards him. Just imagine how hard and struggle to meet each of expectation and dont want to make other people disappointed to him. He just a great musician and for me he also a excellant example to the younger people who want to achieve their dream. Salute to Mark💚

mark lee and his words. he really has a special power within his words to help people with their anxiousness or problems that without us noticing he might feel the same way too. he was so young when he took a leap of faith to come all the way to korea. was living in uncertainty but managed himself to seize the moment and he advanced with an unflinching determination. look at him now, being the talk of the town. the brightest star in all darkness. but stars don’t shine, they burn. and i believe a person who has gained lots of things, has secretly sacrificed a lot too. that even his flaws sculpted him to the right shape as he is now. he’s been working so hard so far yet we never seen him complaining, instead he has always been the human being whose positive energy is easily transferred to us. thus i thank him for that. if only he can see himself through my eyes, he could’ve been proud of himself more like i always am!

I love your interpretation of the song. To me it means all the pressure he had since his debut. He has pressure & responsibility coming his way from many directions. From SM he has the demand of debuting in so many units, comebacks, songs since he's known to be the best rapper in SM. For the fans it's the pressure of expectation of being the best since he is given that name of best rapper and all that spotlight. There is also the haters that don't like him getting all that spotlight, screen time, lyrics. It might be why he starts questioning himself who he is & having the nightmares. Overall it's just him saying I'm a child, I'm growing, & learning as I go so I can't be everything everyone wants me to be. I know he wrote this song a while ago but he didn't state exactly when since his debut at the of 16 he's been in three units so he could of written even then. He truly is doing the best he can so I really hope he doesn't feel that way anymore.

i agree so much about the interpretation of a student pov for this song, ngl today i was playing this song on repeat while at school and it hit so much different 😞😞like the lyrics literally describe how it feels to be a student when your parents expect so much from you, people (aka mostly parents) constantly talking about your grades and whatever, and the feeling of frustration their child feels when they’re trying their best yet not being appreciated for even that (“blah blah blah yall talk too much”). along with the feelings of anxiety and guilt many students face when thinking about what others will think of us and what we’ll become in the future (“who am i in others eyes” “who am i, who’ll i be”). AND THE CHORUS SPEAkS FOR ITSELF “im a child, i cant be the person you want.” (basically how as students, as LITERAL CHILDREN, are forced to basically plan our whole lives for ourselves at young ages and how a lot of us feel when we can’t be the perfect student our parents wished we were.) i only noticed truly how deep this song is until i starting applying my own situation to it LMFAOO
