I can't express how much I enjoy this demo. Just how the initial chaos sets the bar - love it

Thanks, I've been quiet partly because I'm bummed out by KZbin putting ads to all my captures even tho (unlike some others), I have never enabled monetization and never will. Trying to get over it. :)

It's nuts that you guys can do on a Commodore 64 compared to back in the 80s.

This is insane. Brilliant! I seen lots of great c64 coding last years. But this blew my mind. Amazing design, coding, graphics and music.. Mindblowing to see the old c64 do this.

This has to be one of the best demos ever made, not sure how they managed to show so many game clips, amazing.

Anyone else do that thought experiment where you imagine how a demo like this would have gone over in, say, 1984?
@axelheld6655 Жыл бұрын
In 1984 the beeping music of "Ghostbusters" was still the highest of feelings. And a few small objects that moved. Unbelievable.

@@axelheld6655 Never owned a C64 (probably the biggest missed opportunity of my childhood) but I saw M.U.L.E. in a store one time. That memory, of hearing that music and seeing all that stuff going on at a decent framerate, has stuck with me since. My background was with the Apple IIe and VIC-20, you see. I think M.U.L.E. was out before 1984.

In 1984 they'd have to play music with SID 6581 R3 and all would sound like crap ;)
@axelheld6655 Жыл бұрын
Why?
@jammerc64 Жыл бұрын
@@axelheld6655 tunes are 8580 tailored as 90% of demoscene stuff nowadays 😉 I mean, digi only tunes would be rather okay and side 1 themes as well because they don't filter that deep. But side 3 and end music will sound horrible.

I love this demo - especially the dither fades and top 100 games. However, the top100 suffered a little; it needed an overarching one or two track soundtrack and would probably be better off with 50 games and more iconic screens + some more games with cool gfx. I missed creatures/flimbo’s quest and the screens chosen from e.g., pirates & defender o/t crown could have been more recognizable. HOWEVER, as is, it’s amazing and a true masterpiece of coding. Hat’s off, Mahoney!

More pleasure elegance and orginal scene's with positive sprite's is very nice for classic culture demo power for game possible's also view mapping impress - analyze. Visual 8 - bit effect's, composite SID music relax for hear; full for eye's too. Small multimedia is excellent. Bravo !👏⌨🎞😗😐🙂

Ok, so silly question here, but the music bed and SFX, is that also running on OG, C64 hardware? If so, how did you manage to get all of that synthesized sound and bass to not only work, but sound as good as it does? This is excellent work and very-well executed. 👍

I mean, it's playing on a SID. Why wouldn't it sound like that? The music is great, but also the least impressive part of the demo, and that's not an insult!
