Sometimes it is not just our body chemistry but our noses.....hormones can affect the way things smell to us too. Medication is also a factor. I take anti-inflammatories for arthritis....thankfully I do rarely have to take them every day. During the very cold weather I had take them every day for a few weeks and I found that during that time one of my favourite fragrances smelt really horrible to me. Once I stopped taking them after a couple of days my favourite was as I loved it again x

When I sold Avon I got a lot of orders for Rare Pearls, which I didn’t care for. My favorite is Rare Gold, which to me is wonderful and every time I wore it I tons of compliments. I still own it. It is a great fragrance.

I have a couple Scentbird fails- Gucci Bamboo- I absolutely hate it. Smells like an old lady. I was also really disappointed with Burberry Body- just did not smell good to me at all. This was a great video Sarah. ❤️

I did a blind buy of Alien and I hated it. It smells so weird on me! Reminded me of something my mom use to wear and not in a good way lol However, I did a blind buy of Burberry Her and D&G 3 and love both !

Sarah, I like how you are honest and yet very respectful of the fragrances you dislike as well as the companies that produce them. In due time, it would be great if you could do a vid on your best purchases from Scentbird. I'm thinking of subscribing to Scentbird in the near future as I recently made two blind mistake buys of niche fragrances, one of which was erm..expensive. I've been following KZbin fragrance influencers for a while but have only just discovered you, so am thrilled as Ilove the way you review your fragrances. Thanks and keep up the great job!

Sarah, I've been burnt by KZbin so many times that I just can't trust the sellers anymore. 😔 they sell imitations that appear to JUST like the Authentic bottle. Weird but true!

Hi Shawn! Yep, it’s a problem for sure. Mercari is much better because you are dealing with people like you and I who are just selling our own stuff rather than theses huge sellers. If I buy on eBay I stick to my few trusted sellers and that’s it. It’s sad that it has to be like that.

This was a good video on reviews vs. reality, and I've had my share of failed blind buys as well. The worst was Caron Fleurs de Rocaille - cat urine. I didn't get on with the Bill Blass Nude either - just wasn't keen on it. Coco Mad was a fail, so was Black Opium. Bijan Nude didn't work either and I gave it to my sister who loves it. I was super disappointed with Juicy Couture Glistening Amber and now I have a big bottle that I'll never wear. I should have loved it - nope. I try to sample pricier fragrances before buying, but sometimes I can't resist if I see one at Marshall's or TJ's for a decent price :)

I have rare pearls and smells exactly like Ysatis which i also have for many years. Although its been in my collection almost 5 years smelks fantastic and is a compliment getter

My Rare pearls bottle is from about 4/5 years ago and I love it. Hopefully it hasn’t been reformulated again :(

Rare pearls smell amazing on a co worker (sweet white flowers) but it smells completely different on me-kinda dated. It is like you said, a matter of body chemistry!

O my Sarah I am so surprised that you don’t like “Nude” ... I been using this perfume for over 15 years and it works so beautifully for me. Every time I wear it I get tons of compliments.. I guess it works well with my body chemistry. The funny thing is that I was going to ask you to try this ... lol ... Mine is not that yellow tho ...

I just saw a tv report where a French institution responsible to fight counterfeit merchandise says that counterfeited perfumes are usually filled with cat urine, funny you get that smell on this perfume...😬

I got the Nude from a very reputable and large perfume discounter online where I buy about 95% of my stuff and it was also rancid. I remembered the original from magazine strips in the 80's so I knew it had actually gone bad and wasn't a reformulation or duplicate.

There are many frag reviewers in YT to hype viewers to guy coz they were paid to do their job but we should try them before buy....you will know who they are if you follow them carefully.....on the other hand there are a very FEW does genuine Review's

The Yves Rocher one used to be my signature scent, again getting tons of compliments. I still own gallons of it simply because I never want to run out. Too bad it doesn’t work for you.

Yves Rocher use to have some really nice and unique perfumes...! I just bought "Quelques Notes D'Amour". A woody rose perfume, love it, it is so special!

Wow, I think I have very similar taste to yours. I sampled the first Boyfriend at Sephora years ago when it was first released -- I didn't like it. And Desnuda, I bought at TJ Maxx without being able to try first -- I returned it. Desnuda had a civet or castoreum note that was animalic and cloying. Boyfriend, if I recall correctly, started out fresh and dried down to an herbal mish mash smell, somewhat like YSL Libre that was recently released. I don't think you're missing out by not having the original Boyfriend. My blind buy fails are almost always Elizabeth Arden perfumes: White Tea, a musky, fusty mess, and Mediterranean, sour wood and some weird cloying fruit. They are popular though, maybe it's just me. I do like Arden Green Tea. Thanks for your reviews.

I had a full bottle of this yves rocher vanila perfume, I was COMPLETELY anosmic to it. I sprayed so much on that my husband said he got sick when he walked into the room I was in, and I still could not smell it :D

Tfs! I have so many blind buys that are fails it's not funny, lol! I am trying to go through all my fragrances to try and get some use out of them but some I just take to work and give them away. My biggest blind fail I think is La Vie est Belle..I bought a gift set from HSN because of the hype and because I liked Tresor. Totally different scent and I don't see why LVB is so popular.

I bought Tiffany & Co. and I didn't like it. I only smelled citrus scents. I didn't like Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue Intense. Way too citrusy for me - and smelled grassy to me too. I guess I have to stay away from fresh and citrusy fragrances, but I thought they would be nice in case we had a very hot summer this summer. It turned out we didn't.

Ugh, I hate that they didn’t work out for you. I typically don’t like fresh/citrus scents either though so I totally understand. I bought moschino I love love one time and it smelled exactly like d&g light blue. I was disappointed.

So far my epic fail from my blind buying were anything with oud. Oud and myself just not clicked together. I have Lattafa Oud Mood, Alharamain Amber Oud Gold & Maison Lancome Oud Bouquet which smells awful & terrible to my nose. I swear not to blind buy anything with oud anymore. I learned my lesson after 3 bottles of 100ml Oud failure 😪

My fails are most notably Bulgari Acqua Amara 🤮. I never go more than 10 days without some Reviewer favorably mentioning it. Other fails are Blue Jeans, TF Tuscan Leather, DS Durga Debaser and YSL La Nuit del Homme (barely perceptible on me).

Sarah, the fragrances that did not work with your chemistry; did you try those on fabric/clothing? If so, what was the result? On another note, vanilla fragrances. I found a "gem", and I mean a "gem" for a little of nothing, MEMOIRE LIQUIDE Amour Liquide. Stunning!!!

Wubybug 63 I've looked everywhere for the memoire liquid amour, I have 10 empty bottles sitting on my perfume shelf beautiful vanilla almost chocolate smelling perfume to my nose a did have to spray with a heavy hand it was a bit lighter on me. Where did you find yours? I've already bought the sellers on eBay out. Been on the hunt ever since then. Small bottles and they didn't last long for me. But I did absolutely love it. Closest I've found is a mix of Montale chocolate greedy and al rehab chocolate musk.

I don't love billionaire boyfriend. I felt the same way. I like it but it smelled a bit cheap. Boyfriend however is unique and amazing. I haven't tried the reformulation yet because I don't want to be disappointed. I absolutely loved the original and always got compliments

Two thoughts: - the ones from Ebay likely ARE fakes; - aldehydes "work" only at +/- 50F temp, they get waaaay too obnoxious at higher temp

I have bought a lot of fragrances from ebay and have not had too many problems with them. Quite honestly I've had more problems with swaps and I don't participate in them anymore. I will say that you have to be careful who you buy from. I have only had one that I felt had been diluted - not fake, just watered down. I do avoid buying popular high end off of ebay like Chanel's and Creed's, etc. because of the rampant level of fraud associated with those particular types of fragrances. But overall, for the amount of fragrance I buy from ebay I've been pretty fortunate and happy with them.

I agree on repeating the name, especially when you finished talking about the fragrances, say the name again at the end. I have to keep going back to hear the names. Reading notes do not interest me, I always fast forward at that part. I cannot smell notes. And I do like being a subscriber. I like your videos.

Blind buys that didn’t work for me at Elie Saab le perfum (too strong and mature). I also didn’t like Le vie est belle. I bought bc everyone loves it and too sweet. Have you tried Versace crystal noir? It’s one of my favorite blind buys!

@penny44224 midnight shimmer is amazing and Amazon has it for a decent price. The big bottle. It does have a soft tobacco scent in it tho. Sweet feminine pipe smoke, kind of. It's very unique, and sexy to me. ! 😀

I bought Carmen Electra Rrr! at Marshalls one time and it actually smelled like nothing. No one else could smell it either. The bottle was cute in a campy way but still I was super disappointed. It must have been a fake because I've never smelled any notes whatsoever. That's almost impossible. Even the cheap $3 Si knockoff actually smelled somewhat like Si.

Three fragrances that are highly affordable that i love from AVON are Soft Musk, Night Magic, and Odyssey. If i had to pick one for you based on what Ive heard you like, it would be the soft musk.

I blind bought Montale Intense Cafe and it makes me nauseous! I get a really strong chemical smell from it but I really wanted to love it!😞

Great topic! A few major blind by fails for me were Van Cleef & Arpels First. I cannot stand it! One that I cannot smell is Mariah Carey M. Everyone says that they love that perfume, and I cannot smell it at all. 😕
