It’s kind of like wine where there are notes of a certain taste like cherries, wood, spices, etc but wine has none of those in it, it just happens to taste similar

Yep, no way they can be using deer musk in perfume nowadays. In ancient China, they used to use deer musk to cause miscarriages and make women infertile. If chinese dramas are accurate at all, this was a strategic way to make rival wives and concubines from elevating their status by having sons, secretly adding musk into incense, perfume sachets, medicines, etc. Who knows if it's any accurate, but all the chinese dramas refer to musk being used when there are miscarriages or cases of infertility

Youre so smart Emma, Im so freaking glad you explained this! Ppl really think the notes are real! Like with "gourmand accord", ppl really out here thinking these are actual ingredients as opposed to telling the fragrance story. I wonder what they think ambroxan is

You are right! Certain brands use animal products. However, those are the brands that don't follow regulations. IFRA regulates all the perfume houses, but technically anyone can make a perfume with whatever they want and sell it locally.

@perfumerism I'm sincerely wondering why/how they used deer musk glands. As a deer hunter, I have smelled the musk of a mature buck, and let me tell you, I would never want to get that on my skin. In fact, we cut that out before processing the deer to ensure it doesn't taint the meat. How did they use it in perfume?
@xanvask5142Ай бұрын
A lot of people think it’s banned everywhere but you can still get pure musk in the middle east and asia. It’s similar to concentrated oil but very very balmy. They are really expensive though because it’s hard to produce massive amounts without harming the deer.
@destructodanieАй бұрын
The number one they use is a fake vanilla because vanilla is extremely expensive and hard to grow.

well some notes are real, after all they use different flowers in perfumes. But to a large degree, notes are just a generic explanation of what a perfume can smell like. Its not a guarantee since smell depend a high degree on ones own chemistry.

@@perfumerism any honestly. I discovered them recently and have really been loving their unique scents. My personal favorite is by the fireplace- a smoky woody/gourmand scent, and beach walk- which smells like coconut, the ocean etc. I love the concept behind the company and would appreciate your thoughts. WOW please educate yourself a bit more! You are right, just because it says musk in the description, does not mean musk is in it (like with wines), BUT many famous perfumes do have animal products still in them like musk from musk deer, cevit from cervit cat (in chanel nr 5), ambergris from whales (in a guerlain perfume, I think shalimar), castoreum from beevers, hyraceum from cape hyrax. especially the more expensive and established perfume brands DO STILL USE THEM! ITS VERY CRUEL!
@user-bl9hq2gf6i5 ай бұрын
many of these are not necessarily for the scent but they are there to prolong the staying power of perfumes. please educate yourself as a consumer
@burgundyjayde5 ай бұрын
You are absolutely correct and this was the reason why I did not buy one of the more pricier perfumes recently because it had ambergris in it I don't even believe in eating meat let alone wearing a perfume that has some secretion of an animal in it plus I also read that Lady Gaga perfume had humanely body fluids in it I don't know if it's true or just a rumor but I thought I'd mention it😅
@perfumerism5 ай бұрын
I studied fragrance at ISIPCA. This is the information I was taught at the #1 perfumery school at the world. Animal-derived musk has been banned since the 1970s. Any fragrances that used natural musk been reformulated. Chanel No 5 does NOT have natural musk, it has been reformulated several times since it’s first debut. If you have a bottle at home from 1950, your bottle would have natural musk. This is not a concern for today’s customers. Same with civet; animal-derived materials that harm the animal are synthetic now as well! Chanel stopped using civet in the 90s. Any fragrances that contained natural musk have been reformulated!
@perfumerism5 ай бұрын
@@burgundyjayde Fragrance materials are HIGHLY regulated. There are no human fluids in the Lady Gaga perfume, that would be a biohazard.
@user-bl9hq2gf6i5 ай бұрын
@@perfumerism you wrote ambergris is synthetic now and then deleted it. I guess you realized that you're wrong. chanel nr 5 has ambergris, so does one of the creed perfumes and also the guerlain perfume I mentioned already. there are synthetic alternatives, yes, but high end perfumers sometimes prefer the animal products as they are more complex and longer lasting in their opinion. I guess you didnt pay attention at your #1 perfume school or it isn't all that good, because I did not study perfumery, I am just a vegan and conscious consumer that does research before buying things, including perfumes.

I have found that some expensive perfumes claim to use true ambergris …due to it being collected from ethical means, and not harming the whales when found. Can you delve deeper into this and determine what companies use synthetic vs true ambergris? I’m just honestly curious.
