@patrickpet7905 I have heard quite a few "definitions" of niche. It's more the thought that Roja is not a trained perfumer. Yet, he has one of the biggest niche brands out there.

Reminder: Don’t take this as the absolute rating for those fragrances… it was smelled on paper and opinions are subjective. But I am baffled by the Noir Extreme’s rating. Strawberry? Aaron Terrence Hughes is an example of a perfumer that shows how ratings can be given despite personal opinion. He gave TF Noir Extreme a 9.5/10 and was mesmerised by it. In my opinion, I agree. It’s incredible.

I think there is still a big diffeence in how they smell because of the test strips. As a contruction criticism I would suggest you to try improve your background a bit more so there is some live to it, maybe some better lightning or another color, or maybe plants. I felt that the white/grey plain background is not ideal. I hope to see more new videos of yours and glad to see your channel growing :).

I hope Sam can test Terre d’Hermes on his skin and then revisit his opinion. Mostly because I don’t find the dry-down as bad as he does. I also wonder where he’s smelling strawberry in Noir Extreme, I for some reason can smell a hint of tobacco in the dry down which isn’t a listed note.

Interesting insight into patchouli materials! 12:33 Hear hear. I'm with Sam about the TF, although I do prefer the parfum quite a bit more. Always an element of disillusionment when you can identify the materials being used; and turning reality back into fantasy is more difficult than it sounds! 😵‍💫 But as Sam mentioned, the craftsmanship certainly deserves accolades. Perhaps that's what makes it worth the money in some cases?

@@chrisisonewithGod I still think the parfum is a decent designer scent by today's standards. It's the price tag and possibly the ostentacious bottle that don't do it justice. If you got it at a very steep discount, I think it's a solid buy. Only you can determine what you like atm; so use your best discernment when watching impressions vids with test strips. It's a different ballgame on skin and in situational contexts. 👍 Hope you enjoy it!

@@rapsodicreaper Unfortunately, good is always relative. For example, some artisanal perfumers like Russian Adam (Areej le Dore), Joseph DeLapp (Rising Phoenix) and Sultan Pasha use naturals, animalics and proper ouds in ways others wouldn't dream of, giving their compositions a very unique appeal to hardened critics. However, it's unlikely that the average person would be able to appreciate or understand them. Used to be that I could easily recommend the Guerlain trilogy (Heritage, Habit Rouge and Vetiver) to anyone just starting out because they were so cheap at discounters, but now that prices have skyrocketed, discernment trumps adventurousness. Nowadays, the best advice I can give is to sample sample sample. Perhaps even befriend a perfumer or two and utilize their help in learning about the craft to demystify the industry. So many things changing so quickly that I would be remiss to suggest anything to anyone anymore.

How much time between spraying it on a strip and handing it out to the guy? IMO you should have a big enough of a gap in between as on a tester strip the scent develops slowly. Even then there would still be a huge difference between strip and skin, but at least it would be a bit closer.

Not just a full wearing, but a full wearing of a bottle that's been opened for at least a month. It doesn't matter for some but is transformational for others. Best too, if the full wearing was on someone else and you would have exposure to them at opening, drydown, and six, eight, ten hours in. Some fragrances never allow you to completely understand them on your self. Others, of course, are easier to quantify. And, for each person, those frangrances can be different. The reason this is a popular hobby is that it is complex. Personal. The biggest problem is that, as people get deeper into it, they tend to stray from the stalwart feature of perfume. How does it smell?

While I do not particularly like Omar's taste in "favorite" fragrances, I find it hard to respect the word of a "perfumer" that doesn't even recognize Terre D'hermes. This is the same issue I have with Aaron Terrence Hughes, who has built his whole image around being a perfumer, yet often acknowledges that he hasn't smelt the majority of significant perfumes in history (Fahrenheit by Dior for example.) Obviously, this video is made for the algorithm (you can tell by the title), but it seems like all anyone needs to do in order to identify as a "perfumer" is get an entry-level kit of aromachemicals and mention their names a few times while sniffing a tester strip. It's all smoke and mirrors. Why should we respect his word more than anyone else's? All it looks like to me is a way for him to make a living, as he sells perfume making supplies primarily. Remember, approach all this content with a critical mind and do your own research. Don't buy into hype. Buy decants (2ml is all you need) to determine if a fragrance is right for you. Wear what you love and don't worry about what anyone else has to say.

This applies to many industries. While I have confidence in my ability to identify smells, you are falsely suggesting that Sam, Aaron, and others only got into making perfumes because they bought a kit. This is disrespectful, incorrect, and misleading because you don't know them personally or professionally. They might have degrees in chemistry and are passionate about understanding chemical compounds, fragrances, and blends. They are not just giving their opinions on smells; they also have knowledge of the chemical makeup of the perfumes.
@shoegazer8585
@shoegazer8585 6 ай бұрын
@@richards9750 Thanks for the response. All due respect, I think you've misunderstood my take on this subject. I never said that Sam, Aaron, or anyone else "got into making perfumes because they bought a kit." Rather, I am pointing out that these individuals seem to have a lack of insight into historical perfumery. Perfumery, like literature or fine art, has a long and complex narrative attached to it. If I am looking for criticisms on a given topic, I prefer to get them from individuals with some degree of experience and expertise in the particular subject. Not chemistry. Perfumery. Obviously, KZbinrs create videos with the intention of getting as much exposure as possible. In order to do this, they often create videos like these to bait people into watching because the viewers believe they are privy to the insight of an "expert." I am critical of this (as anyone should be of mass media) and I am simply calling people to think for themselves. Also, I find your sentence syntactically strange and possibly revelatory: Why would you include yourself in this statement - as if you are part of this group of aforementioned individuals? That, in addition to your generic username, the fact that your account has zero content, and is only a few years old - makes me a bit skeptical as to what you're trying to accomplish here and why it seems personal to you? It seems like it struck a nerve. Very interesting.

I found weird at the beginning that they weren't familiar with popular fragrances as well but Omar made a great analogy about Michelin star chefs and restaurant critics/reviewers. Those high end chefs are not necesarily familiar with the other restaurants but reviewers all they do is try different stuff. Honestly I don't think someone like Alberto Morillas who has been in the industry longer than I've been alive has tried anything on the market for the past 20 years. I think ATH said that he is working on his fragrances 7 days a week so I don't think he will be at the local store smelling anything after work.

I do agree with the perfumer about TF Noir Extreme EDP. Honestly, the Parfum is a vast improvement! The EDP smells cheap, less masculine and simple. The Parfum is complex, rich, masculine and is worth the money! I’m not even super into fragrances and I can really tell the difference. I’m shocked when reviewers say they smell close to each other. The EDP smells like a cheap, low-quality dupe of the Parfum with only a 65% similarity.

Everytime I want to buy a certain fragrance there is either a certain negative review or a bad comment about it and that keeps me from buying it. I was planning on buying TF noir extreme but now I am doubting that decision. It's gotta hurt if someone thinks your fragrance smells like a cheap ALDI fragrance.

Just get samples. 2ml samples aren't that expensive. a 2ml of that Noir Extreme is like 7 bucks at Scent Split. a 5ml is 17.

Never blindly buy perfume. Everybody has a different taste... Go to a store, smell it, spray it on your body, and see how it performs, especially with pricey perfumes.

I personally think it smells wonderful… it’s in the niche realm, but probably one of the easiest to like perfumes. If I had gotten noir extreme as a blind buy, I would’ve been quite happy.

I blind bought Light Blue Intense based on all the online hype and I straight up hate it 😂. Weird sweet bubblegumy scent. Smells like something a middle schooler would like. Ah well, to each their own

Great video. I really enjoyed watching! Hermes and Tom Ford are overrated. In fact, Tom Ford is beyond overrated. Xerjoff fragrances are masterpieces. Roja is just a waste of money.

I appreciate him giving his honest opinion, but this is complete anti-marketing for me. I would never buy a fragrance this man creates. I compared his review of Noir Extreme to Aaron Terrence Hughes’ (whose opinion I trust and work I love) and it is hilariously different

Paper strips are not flattering I'll tell you that much also smelling stuff back to back is also not a grat idea ...PS the Burlington is a very lovely fragrance... I was super skeptical when i first tried ot but it is very lovely.. could i personally justify 300ish for a freshie...uff not really..now if i could scoop one at heavy discount or a high partial for something like 200 i can see myself forking that..

Bro smells DG light blue intense and says "this is fresh, I think." Yeah, you think so lmao? And then says Noir Extreme is a strawberry scent. Yeah, cool. Man has no idea. Said Roja smells cheap and can be easily replicated. He only works with aromic chemicals. The difference between him and Aaron Terence Hughes is that Aaron can distinguish what smells cheap, what smells expensive and what the actual notes and ingredients are.
