One of my favourites! I believe it was recorded in 1964; the concerto, gorgeous as it is, is very likely not by Pergolesi. But it sold better under his name! In my LP version, the flute is less prominent but mixes mores naturally with the band. Rampal at his best!

When flutes were recorded well and they were crafted better than today flutes. I want to travel in time and steal his flute from its case and bring it to my home to play it.

Apologies, I got my previous remark wrong; my record is indeed with Jean-Pierre Rampal, but the band was Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, directed by Karl Münchinger. This explains why the balance between orchestra and solo was different form the one posted here. No less enjoyable, though.

D. Scarlatti is unsually seen as the ultimate composer of italian baroque, but actually it was Pergolesi born 25 years later. I don`t see that even Händel was any better at the same young age. (No one compares to J.S.B)

Lebhafte Aufführung dieses perfekt konstruierten Konzerts mit milden und gleichzeitig gut artikulierten Töne der Querflöte. Die zurückgehaltene Orchesterbegleitung ist auch bemerkenswert.
