ash: demi lovato has a sick sense of humor me: laughs in dead friends and as someone who saw demi on tour twice, this album live slaps. city of angels is a banger and 29 is so emotional bc everyone shouts THEIR ages when they were groomed. and as someone who has been seeing demi life since 2008, this is genuinely the first time I’ve seen them 100% happy on stage, it nearly brought me to tears. I was lucky enough to see the first show and the last show of the tour and they were some of my favorite ever concerts I’ve been to Also the fact that bones is ruling thirst edits is a crime against humanity!!!

ok so fun fact about dead friends, it started off as a really sad ballad but demi felt it was TOO sad and wanted to honor their dead friends by making a song that sounds celebratory and just reminds them of the good times with them sonically, and speaks of the truth of the reality theyre living with their friends being gone now lyrically alot of people love how it sounds but the lyrics being as deep and sad as they are tend to throw people off but for me personally the whiplash and the contrast between the sound and the lyrics actually end up complimenting eachother

One of the things I love Demi did with this album is play with the concept of duality. Here’s some I’ve noticed: The duality of Substance relates to Demi’s past with substances and their want for something real and authentic The duality of HOLY FVCK by using a religious term paired with a sexual term The duality of being 17 vs. 29 The duality of being wasted on alcohol and being wasted on love The duality of a title like Come Together which sounds like it’s gonna be about world peace and even has a rhythm that feels unifying and it being about sex The duality of Dead Friends being a depressive topic yet the beat makes you wanna rock out And the obvious duality of feeding one part of ourselves over another. Love this running thread through the album ❤️

The way I got the notification for this and IMMEDIATELY dropped what I was doing to devote my full attention to this. IMMEDIATELY, Ashley. (And now I'm watching it again to leave a comment, WHOOPS.) First of all, girlie, the hair is *chef's kiss*. Like, damn. 3:55 Can confirm, this album is fucking INCREDIBLE live. My show on the tour was at the end of September and I cried three times. Just. Holy fuck does not even begin to cover it. (I'm also JUST remembering that Ashlee Simpson was a guest at that show and my brain malfunctioned again.) 17:20 May or may not have scream-sung my voice hoarse during this "City of Angels" on tour. (Also as an aside, when this album dropped, I talked about wanting a mash-up of "4 Ever 4 Me" and "Iris" by The Goo Goo Dolls, not knowing that song actually inspired Demi for this one. The show we had tickets for was on our anniversary, and Demi actually did the fucking mash-up, and when I tell you I fucking CRIED!!!) 7:48 I see you, Camp Rock reference. I see you. 18:09 and 27:36-28:22 made me think about all of the interviews Demi was doing to promote this album, and she/they kept talking about how this album was really going back to the roots of her/their first two albums, how this is the kind of music she/they always wanted to make, that her/their initial instincts were right. Demi's voice is so powerful that it sometimes pushes past what pop music usually can withstand. There's NONE of that in this genre. Demi truly, truly owns it and fits beautifully into it, and she/they seem so happy to be making this type of music again. (As a side note, Demi has a song on the new Scream soundtrack called "Still Alive" that's still in this soundscape if you want to check it out on your own free time. I think it's great!) 23:30 Literally me at the opening of "Feed." But also the last 90 seconds of this song made me SOB the first time I heard it, because those RIFFS absolutely made me think of classic, old school Rockvato, and it really hit at that moment that we did it, kids, we made it!!! What's interesting is that it wasn't until I got to the end of this album with you that I realized this is almost Demi's equivalent to Taylor's "Reputation." It's a comeback album, it's a "departure" in sound from the previous album(s), it's "the old me is dead" (literally "she's dead, it's time to fucking mourn"), it's "start with bangers about not giving a single fuck, transition into "oh shit, who's this fine piece of eye candy," end on a soft, sweet song about being in love. And given how much you love *that* album, conceptually, it makes sense to me that this one would seem to land in a similar fashion? IDK, you can tell me I'm talking out of my ass, it's fine. XD This was absolutely worth the wait, thank you for making a point to share this experience with us!

Hi Ash! I wouldn’t have heard this album if you hadn’t done this. It definitely portrays a heck of a personal journey. Your comment on the shortness of songs was a riot. On the topic of super-short songs and TikTok killing music, one group that fills stadiums in Europe but doesn’t get play in the U.S. because their songs are too long for radio is Nightwish. I’d love to hear what you think of them. Their music is pretty complex, but you seem able to cope, and the complexity is in all the forms you love - smart lyrics, artful composition, outstanding vocals, great energy, excellent live shows, concept or concept-like albums, and a deep growth journey across multiple albums. You seem to have the soul to grasp what they do, so I (and probably all the Nightwish fans) would love to hear how you feel about it. Since you’re into whole albums, their 10th studio album is currently in process, and they’re still touring on their 9th one (“Human Nature”). The 7th album (“Imaginaerum”) even has a full-length movie associated with it (same title) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jH-Wh5yDrdOJi6c A random extra kicker is that the most reacted-to song on all of KZbin is one of theirs. Specifically, the live performance of Ghost Love Score at the Wacken 2013 festival - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIrNep9-jKd0jNE Band KZbin channel - kzbin.info/door/QplaZZ2mv8fo8Zd-1hQPzg Band site - www.nightwish.com/music I encourage you to take a look and I think you’ll be glad if you do, but whatever you choose, keep being you. -Don

I was soooo f*cking anxious for your react video about Holy Fvck OMG In my opinion, THIS album is a masterpiece, is a LIBERATION album. Besides anything that they made before, that doesn't compared to the old ones (Don't Forget & Here We Go Again) because its magnified and has A LOT of mixed emotions (who's a fan and keep up with the looong history and tribulations of their personal life, it's going to get it). Playing with the relegious dicotomy and making tons of clever puns (lyrically), I recommend you to give a research about all the little details and references that they make, mostly the religious criticism. Summing up, Demi ALWAYS belonged to the Rock music. She was taken from that genre and they turned her into this POP DIVA that the industry wanted, because it sells. And now, they're fed up! They're back to the roots! For good! THAT'S IT.
