To an extent, the All-Stars vote had an even greater impact. Without the fallout of that vote, I don't know that Boston Rob gains the reputation to be cast on Heroes vs. Villains, where he developed the rivalry with Russell, and then Redemption, which he would win, leading him to Winners at War.

I wonder how often Wu thinks about how he just threw away $1million just to be “honorable” to one of the least honorable survivor players of all time (only referring to their game play, not about their actual lives). But it’s not only that $1mil but it’s also the 2nd $1mil he would have had a chance to win coming back in future seasons as well. I legit feel bad for that guy

In Game Changers, if JT doesn't tell the Mana tribe that they were voting for Sierra, the she likely goes home, Sierra gives the Legacy Advantage to Brad, and Sarah has no protection at advantaggeddon. Not to mention that Malcolm stays in the game, meaning that Mana probably goes to tribal again, and considering that all 5 Mana members who were at the split tribal made the merge, the entire merge portion of the game is completely different. All of this happened because Jeff Varner blew the immunity challenge at the end, there was a split tribal to begin with (becuase Mana then goes to tribal alone), and because JT ended up on the same tribe as Sandra. Had just one those things been different, it would change the game, and Sarah likely doesn't win the season, even though all of what I said seemingly has nothing to do with her.

The one for me that changes the course of Survivor history is Ciera's flip in Blood vs. Water. For years we had seen stable alliances just run the game, with really only Philippines being the exception. One vote flip at the final six, thanks in large part to Hayden Moss, brought us one of the most memorable (and meme-able moments in the show's history) and put us on the pathway we're on now to big moves, big spectacles, and big moments. Also, RIP Sonja. I can't help but smile seeing her on screen. Such a bundle of joy and seemed like a wonderful woman. Enjoy that great tribal in the sky. I'm sure the lord has an immunity necklace for you.

Personally I think the Final 9 vote is the most consequential vote, butterfly effect-wise. If Brandon does end up sticking with Samburu and voting Lex out, Ethan likely doesn't win Africa, Lex probably isn't brought back for All-Stars, All-Stars plays out completely differently with a different cast make-up, the drama with Rob and Lex doesn't happen, Boston Rob's (and Ambers) Survivor/Amazing Race legacy is probably different...there's just so much to Lex being saved by Brandon in Africa
@johnfeather64762 ай бұрын
Don’t forget, the final 9 situation in Africa wouldn’t have happened if T-Bird hadn’t voted for Lex at final 10 after promising Clarence she wouldn’t vote for him, thus causing Lex to grow paranoid and go on a witch hunt against the person who cast that lone vote against him (he thought it was Kelly).

Nice to see some gameplay analysis of early Survivor. So much modern "discourse" on it boils down to "lol alphabet strategy" and "lol, they thought alliances were immoral." I'm not saying the gameplay itself is as sophisticated as in later years, but I DO maintain that it's more interesting than it's given credit for, and it's fascinating to see how it led to the style of play seen in more recent eras.

If Wu voted out Tony, would people be talking about Tony regretting voting out Spencer who figured out it was going to be a 2 person FTC and promised he would take him to the final?
@bigbuffguy95892 ай бұрын
I don't think Spencer would take Tony (just no reason to when taking Kass is a lock), but even if he did, Spencer was the biggest jury threat in the game. He absolutely had to go. He had also won three immunity challenges, so he was a huge threat to win the final immunity challenge if Tony left him in the game. Voting him out was 100% the right move. And Tony never should have been in a final two in the first place. He easily wins a Tony/Woo/Kass Final Tribal Council.
@ASG-nm4cz2 ай бұрын
@@bigbuffguy9589 Why should he have never been in a final 2? It was set up as a final 2 season, Spencer saw it with the phrasing before it was officially announced. Him being a immunity threat is why Tony should have kept him. Tony put himself in a position where he should have had to win immunity in order to make final 2. If Spencer made his promise public and then turned back on it, it could have been disaster.

The Woo vote causes even more ripples. Tony would have been on 2nd chance instead of Woo. That could have completely changed that season, but even if Tony is an early boot in 2nd chance, he likely changes his approach in Game Changers similar to how he did in WAW and that season could have completely changed. One vote by Woo potentially changed the outcome of 4 seasons.
@aperson222222 ай бұрын
If Woo votes out Tony then what should have been the first great new school season ends with its best player being screwed by a last minute rule change. When the same thing happened to Cirie, it still produced a worthy champion in Parvati. But put Tony on the jury bench having to choose between two nobodies and, coming off the heels of the dark age seasons, I think the anticlimax would be bitter enough to prevent the renaissance from happening.
@johnbrewer622 ай бұрын
If woo voted Tony out he’d have a better edit, and Kass even worse
@bigbuffguy95892 ай бұрын
Agreed, except Cirie was miles better than Parvati in Micronesia. It was and is a tragedy that Cirie got robbed. It nearly happened again in Cagayan, but Tony's skill and Woo's loyalty averted it. Notice that production has not messed around with surprise final twos ever since. They found other ways to deal with medevacs (e.g. Michele voting Neal off the jury).
@aperson222222 ай бұрын
@@bigbuffguy9589I do think Cirie was better than Parvati that year, but at least there’s a debate to be had. Either Woo or Kass winning Tony’s season would be completely unsatisfying.

If production didn't tell Chet he'd be medivaced after the next vote Tracy would have had Erik and Ami on her side to Blindside Ozzy. If that happens Tracy likely becomes the most powerful player in the game. The merge tribe is way different, the fans and favorites are likely even, and the vote that gave the Black Widoe Brigade their power doesn't happen. The first person who successfully had the votes to Blindside Ozzy was Tracy Hughes-Wolfe.🎉

I thought the Sonja vote was also significant for setting the precedent of “vote out the older lady first to keep the tribe strong”. Next two seasons also had an older lady go first (although Kim Johnson was older than Diane). And in marquesas the older lady went second. If Sonja didn’t go first, future players may not have been conditioned to vote based on physical strength

I believe Tony getting booted second in Game Changers helped him immensely for Winners at War. First, that placement lowered his threat level considerably to other winners. Second, Tony learned to stay under the radar until the merge by being early boot in Game Changers. So it worked out just fine for Tony at the end.

For starters it was happening when I as a kid was most infatuated with it, watching it with my mom, ice cream every Wednesday. Those core memories surround the first 8 seasons so much. The one that comes to mind for me is season 2 when Kimmi voted for Jeff Varner when she was voted out. Had she not placed that vote, the merge tie vote between Colby and Jeff may have gone Kucha’s way and given them control over the rest of the game. Maybe then we wouldn’t have seen Tina (and eventually her daughter Katie), Colby, Amber, or Jerri in so many subsequent seasons.

I just never understood why the 6 alliance in HvV had Tyson and someone voting for Parvati swap votes so it stays 3-3-3 and Tyson gets his satisfaction of voting for Parvati.
@daltonriser11252 ай бұрын
So while the tyson vote was important no doubt when talking about Sandra I think the final 7 vote pit of Danielle is arguably more important cause it they had voted put Sandra there instead or another plan Parvati likely wins the season against Russell and Danielle or it's a closer situation if jerri wins final immunity in the original timeline Genuinely don't know who of Russell Parvati or Sandra wpild get voted put
@bigbuffguy95892 ай бұрын
It was definitely impactful because it meant that Parvati could no longer win, as she needed exactly Russell and Danielle at Final Tribal Council (she loses to Jerri as well as Sandra, not to mention Colby). But no one was targeting Sandra at that point, so she wouldn't have gone home. Parvati and Danielle wanted to vote out Rupert, but Russell convinced Jerri to vote out Danielle at tribal. Sandra conning Russell into voting out Coach was also huge, as that allowed Sandra to make the merge.

Woo’s move wasn’t great for his personal chance to win, but it was great for Survivor history. Tony was chaotic, yet a great strategist and great for entertainment. Of course, he went on to win WoW and his game was awesome that season.

For HvV i thought the Courtney boot was a lot more crucial, it was either Sandra or Courtney completely at the mercy of Russells alliance and they decided to vote out Courtney, and then Sandra went on to win. Or even the Coach boot because Sandra managed to persuade Russell Coach was conspiring against him saving her for another round. I don’t see how the Tyson boot (albeit epic) was the important one here
