The Red Sea, which lies between Africa and Asia, has been in the news lately over attacks on commercial ships, including one bound for India, with the Navy deploying four warships in the Arabian Sea as a deterrent. In Ep 1375 of Cut The Clutter, Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta explains what exactly is happening in the Red Sea, and why the attacks have the world worried.

If China develops a base - or possibly even dual-use infrastructure - in Assab or Massawa to complement its base in neighboring Djibouti, it would be able to blockade the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. In 2021, Eritrea signed on to join China’s Belt and Road Initiative and has reportedly seen a steep increase in Chinese construction projects in 2023. Over the last 11 years Chinese companies bought controlling stakes in all four of Eritrea’s developed mining projects for minerals including copper, zinc and potash. China already operates its first overseas military base in neighboring Djibouti, where it built underground bunkers, hardened infrastructure and a pier capable of accommodating an aircraft carrier.

Would have been good to add the implications of PLAN's Djibouti naval base. In fact you didn't cover Djibouti at all - given both US and China have bases at the choke point. China is just as badly affected by rampaging Houthis /Iranians. Given that India has no base and 3 destroyers cannot cover such a large expanse of water, could this provide the essential ingredients for a "G2" momen? A stretched, desperate, and beleaguered US Navy reaches out to China for help - and it's in both their interests to protect these sea lanes. China is increasing its naval assets in Djibouti.

No Indian you looking at the wrong ocean. Our intel suggest that new wars will breaking out for oil. Europe is readying it's self for war. New war for neo-colonization of North African oil. Italy long dormant is eyeing Libya and looking to take over parts of so that oil can flow in to Europe. Now there are rumblings that France is looking to do the same in their old colony Algeria. The Algerians fought a brutal war for their independence but now the French are looking to take oil fields of Algeria.

It’s about time Indian Navy has decided to intervene and take responsibility of the trouble point on the Red Sea esp. that Bab-al Mandab strait. Suez Canal being a man-made conduit to Eastern Mediterranean Sea is an essential conduit for trade vessels as it connects Europe to Asia. Bab-al Mandab strait has two mischief makers , Somalia and Houthi rebels in Yemen. The protection of merchant vessels esp. ones heading for India will be the responsibility of the Indian Navy.

If this Iranian Frigate sent to the Red Sea, either tries to take on the US Navy Warship directly, or tries to stop and board international commercial shipping vessels, the Americans and Allies are protecting, or tris to defend the Houthis attacking an international commercial shipping vessel too. The outcome for this Iranian Frigate will be the same, also the Americans and her allies too, would see it as an open act of war by Iran in basically international waters, to try and stop international commercial shipping and world trade too. Along with this Iranian Frigate could find itself now going up against Indian, or French, or British Warships, or other International partners of Americans too. What will Iran do then, open fire on other nations Warships as well as the American Warships too? If Iranian Regime wants to start an open international naval war, that may start in the Red and then over flowing in to the Gulf of Aden, plus expand into the Arabian Sea and across all of the Northern Western Indian Ocean very quickly too. Even land up reaching all the way back into the Persian Gulf too, between Iran against not just the Americans but her Nato and Western International Allies now too, the Iranians are making all the right mistakes to cause this happening. If Iran wants a proxy war in the Middle East, with Iran the major loser because neither Russia will come to Iran aid, the Russian just cannot afford too, with the Russia Ukraine war going on. Also what other Middle East or Asian countries, would join Iran in a major Naval and Air Force war against the Americans and her International Western Allies too? As for China getting involved, if that is what the Iranian Regime are hopping for or betting on, the Iranian Regime better think twice. China is not going to risk either middle East oil and LPG China needs, or risk third world war with the Americans and her allies, any more than Russia would to support Iran. Or openly go to war over supporting either the Houthis, Hamas or Hezbollah or any other Islamic Terrorist Group Iran is funding and supporting etc too. It is just not in the Chinese Political, Military, let alone Chinese world Trade and Financial interests, to allow a conflict in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean, to stretch all the way to the South China Seas and the Pacific Ocean. The Chinese leaders will see Iran and her Islamic Terrorists which Iran supports and financial pay for mostly too, ARE JUST NOT THAT WORTH IT, to risk World War with the West and Americans, even Iranian Oil is not worth it either!

Even assuming your statement is correct (it is not), do you realize that this is a land war and that the naval forces have very little role to play in it? Even if all of Russia's Black Sea fleet is moved to another location, NATO/Ukraine will still get thrashed by Russia, as is happening today. I repeat, the navy is not playing any significant role, so NATO/Ukraine will continue to get thrashed by Russia no matter what.

the Jews migrated to Israel have experienced neighbor trauma all over the world. That is why Israel continues to have trauma with its neighbors. The only way for Israel to have no neighbor trauma is to migrate to an island. Then Jews will have they own land without neighbor trauma. Then the name Israel can be changed to Island.

Great. But since they Israelis have an Ultimate Victim Mentality, they will build a Strong Navy (with American Money) and Attack nearby countries. They truly believe they're God's chosen people. 😑
