Back when I first used a disc a few years ago I made the mistake of not realising that yes I have a very high cervix but my pubic bone is also high so the distance between my cervix and pubic bone is actually too short for most large size discs 😅

Great job explaining this, I think this is exactly my problem! My cora one size disc was pushing against my bladder the entire time although it was definitely put in place correctly. It had made a suction effect on my cervix bc of that and it was awful to remove. I'm downgrading to a smaller size and one with rings to make the removal process easier.

I bought a box of diaposable discs to try. I tried one yesterday since I was having some spotting. It seems to have worked well. No spotting on my pad, and the disc had collected some stuff when I pulled it out later. I am actually looking forward to my next period. If i can make this work - or even semi-work - then I plan to invest in a reusable disc. Fingers crossed and discs at the ready!

According to the measurement I have middle to low cervix (thought I have low for a while) and I got Nixit from your quiz but it’s actually too big for me so I’ve switched to Lumma medium which works perfectly. Not saying your quiz is flawed cuz I do find it helpful but I think there still needs to be some more fine tuning when it comes to disc sizes and I suppose it’s going to require more ppl to try it and share their experiences.

I bought my 1st disc, the reusable Flex disc that just released late March this year. It looked just a little bigger than the disposable discs and I have a high cervix. I was blown away with how easy it was compared to cup insertion. I did knock it back once trying to remove it but bore down to try and get back down. It doesn't leak the way my cups did and way more comfortable. Still learning with it

Thanks for your great work Kim! I've been using reusables for several years and always loved the Sibell cup, as it's super soft and the side indents made it easy for me to use. After noticing my cervix lowering I decided to try disks. I tried the Ziggy and the Nixit, but they were too big and the rim on both was crazy thick. I don't know why they need them that thick. They didn't fit me and kept popping out, like you said in your video. Lumma disks were ok. I was so glad they offered a smaller size, for when my cervix is super low, but they feel icky (not my preferred silicone.) I've just tried the Hello disk and it's wonderful. The silicone is a nice texture, inside and out. Silky smooth outside and slick inside, so it cleans up nicely. The tab is comfortable as well. The best part is that the rim is perfect! It's just firm enough and not too big. It doesn't stick out and that matter so much to me. I have issues with bladder pressure and the Hello disk was barely felt at all. I can't thank you enough for helping make this comfortable option! (Love the fog blue color too! So pretty!)

I use discs now because I have a IUD with long strings, but I have a tilted cervix and when I try to remove the disc, it usually stay tucked behind the cervix and I have to do the messiest maneuvers to take it out... i don't know if it makes sense. When I used cups this wasn't an issue, because the cervix wasn't reached and hooked by the cup. Also many people talk about bladder sensitivity when using internal period products, but my main problem has always been rectum sensitivity, probably because the tilted cervix forces the disc to stay more "backwards"? Any suggestion for discs vs low/average tilted cervix? I really enjoy this channel! Thank you!

I took the plunge and just ordered a menstrual disc. I've been a cup user for almost a decade, and I mostly love using cups. But dealing with cups is quite messy for me so if I want to make sure I'm clean, emptying and reinserting has to be done in the shower, squatting really low. That's a bit of a pain in the you know what if you're in a bit of a hurry to go to work. If the start of the period catches me outside, I have to use an emergency pad or tampon. I'm hoping with the disc I can just carry it in my backpack, and use more or less like a tampon. If I'm outside, I can empty in the toilet, rinse, and put back in. No need to get into the shower. Also, with cups I'm having issues with bladder pressure and it's a bit more difficult to pee with a cup in. It's like I have to push, and it feels like I can never get my bladder fully empty. I hope it's better with the disc.

Thank you for this video. I used to use a cup, but after my 4th pregnancy I noticed my cervix is a lot lower and cups aren't comfortable anymore because they keep poking out. Even with the stem completely removed. I had bought a ziggy disc a few years ago and was struggling to keep it tucked. It was always leaking and I was feeling deflated because I want to use reusable products. I did however seem to find a temporary fix or hack to keep my ziggy in place better during my last cycle and it seemed to work for me. Since my ziggy is oval shaped, I decided to insert it width wise instead of length wise like it's designed. It seems like width wise makes it more of a rounded shape as opposed to oval and that helped it stay tucked better with my low cervix. I know that's not how it's designed to be placed but it worked wonders for me this last cycle with no leaking and staying tucked. I even autodumped. Now I don't feel so bad about the money I spent buying it in the first place. I got the idea after watching your video about TPE cups and how they mold to your body but should be reshaped to original roundness before reinsertion to avoid leaks.
@PeriodNirvana2 жыл бұрын
That's a super awesome idea and I'm glad it worked!
@PronounGirl2 жыл бұрын
I insert the ziggy this way too. I have a slight prolapse and weaker pelvic floor muscles with a tilted low cervix so I’ve found that with any internal period products I have to tweak the insertion. Another hack that seems to work for me is to do a couple kegel squeezes while running my finger around the rim pushing up to make sure it is completely inflated and nestled into the wall, once it is I gently rotate it, I also sometime use my thumb to push the back wall to help get it further back - it no longer pops out now that I learned how best to insert to best fit my body. Before that, it would slip down and come half way out anytime I used the bathroom (cups and tampons also do this for me) I think the some of problem with the disc at first was that it opened up before getting all the way back causing it to twist/fold/move down when I went to tuck the rim behind the pubic bone….that’s why I run my finger along the rim while kegel squeezing now to make sure it’s fully up and back where it needs to be.

First time I used something like these it was called Instead softcup at the time and it was disposable. It was like a freebie with a magazine (around 2010 ish). I tried it while swimming and I was quite pleased that I didn't leak BUT in bed it just wouldn't stay put. It kept sliding out so it put me off using them completely. I've been using menstrual cups for about 10 years now and rarely had any problems. This year my contraceptive pill was changed to another brand and I've just been leaking from the cups as well. I realised I'm having a heavier period on my first two days so I've been looking into higher capacity cups and recently I've been seeing so many variations of the discs too. So I've ended up buying two Merula XL cups and a S and L set of discs to try out. Hopefully both will work out for me and then I can get a higher end brand for discs later on. What I'm not as keen on is the idea of auto dumping though 😂 I'm a dancer and I don't want to have any possible accidents while doing some strenuous moves 😅 I'm keeping my fingers crossed in the meantime🤞😊 Thanks for all the info!
@_Laura.Marie_Sierra.Destiny_Ай бұрын
I feel like as long as you’re not peeing while dancing you would be fine. It auto dumps while you’re peeing because your pelvic floor completely relaxes. Of course you could just try it out at home and see how it works. But it’s really based on your pelvic floor, and if it was that relaxed while dancing, you would most likely also be peeing.

Ah yeah, disposable discs have a much firmer rim, I’ve trialed softdiscs and I’m trying to figure out whether it’s the hard rim or the bigger size that is causing pressure when worn and prone to untucking. But it’s most likely why it’s painful to insert and remove for me since I’m very small down there and have never inserted anything before
@artifach2 жыл бұрын
for me it was the hard rim of the Softdisc that caused pressure, not much different from my experience with the Lumma M; the pressure and other problems were not as bad with the Nixit, however I cannot tell if the untucking you mention is caused by the size. it could be that indeed you need a smaller one. for the pain in inserting and removing, lube has helped me a lot since my time with cups.

I tried using the disposable discs several years ago, but I couldn’t even get it in all the way. The rim was so tough and firm and inflexible. When I finally gave up, I had the worst time trying to get it back out again and had to enlist my husband’s help. It was not a painless experience either. Maybe I just have smaller than normal plumbing? Idk. I had a boyfriend in my twenties who was *ahem* very well endowed (approx 9” long and 6” in circumference - yes, I measured. LoL) and no matter how ready to go I was or how much prep work I did beforehand, sex was still extremely painful for me with him. So it’s not the first time I’ve had an issue comfortably inserting things into my vagina, but according to him, I was the first person to ever complain about it. LoL. So all that to say, I haven’t tried any cups or discs since that first time because I’m afraid it’ll be the same thing all over again. I would love any advice on what products/sizes to try!

The back of the disc is supposed to go passed your cervix around the back of it, it’s like it sits in a circle around your cervix, and our anatomy kind of makes it so that you do have to go passed/behind your cervix, and then the front will be pushed upwards to tuck it behind the pubic bone. So that it’s basically wrapped around your cervix.

Basically while you’re peeing your pelvic floor relaxes and it lets the cup slightly move out of your pubic bone, which then the contents will dump/leak out, and then when you’re done peeing, your pelvic floor goes back to normal so it should push the disc back into place. Then you just wipe and move on with your day. Lol
