The brand Saalt makes great average starter cups in both size Small and Regular (large) Expand text for links and resources. These cups come in two firmness choices - Original (Saalt Cup) and Soft (Saalt Soft.) Yes, this can be confusing! Both options are still well within the average firmness range but the original is "average firm" and the Saalt Soft is "average soft." This admittedly longwinded video will compare the Saalt Cup and Saalt Soft to each other, walk you through why firmness matters and who each is good for, and compare it to other leading brands like Saalt vs Diva Cup, Saalt vs. Lena Cup, Saalt vs. Cora Cup, and Saalt vs. Flex Cup. Then, finally, you will get to my Saalt Cup review and Saalt Soft review. As some may recall I collaborated with Saalt to help design the Saalt Soft based on my years of menstrual cup experience and I'm super proud of its success. Is it the best cup? No because there is no such thing! Both cups are just very good average starter cups and are similar to other "average" cups that work for the largest percentage of the population in length and fit.

I actually keep 3 Saalt cups in rotation. The small Saalt in the standard firmness is my go-to cup. It’s fantastic nearly all of the time. However, sometimes on days when I’m having particularly bad cramps, or just feel sensitive I switch to my Saalt Soft small. On really heavy nights, I like to use the Saalt original in the regular size. Between the 3, I find I have all my bases covered. 😊 Such a great brand!

I did the quiz a couple years ago, and it recommended me the saalt soft small... it was my first cup and I liked it a lot, it was easy to me to learn how to use it , I didn't feel it at all... very happy . I did have a little spill the first days of the period (I'm a heavy bleeder, and I needed to dump the cup every 4-5 h, but that was something I was used to when using tampons) so I watched your video on the subjet, and followed your advice, and got the merula one size, and now everything is perfect. I use the merula the heavy days (when my cervix is sitting lower) and then I pass to the saalt soft. It has been a learning curve, now I'm very happy to have found the perfect solution for me, and you helped a lot ... thank you Kim:)

It's so great to hear that you're managing your period and know your body well enough to find the right combination. @@PeriodNirvana yes, that's right! Buying a cup is not always a simple decision, having in mind that if it doesn't fit, you can't return it or change it... that's why your work is so important, so we don't go blind on the first time, and we can get those answers to our questions (I must say that saalt has a very nice support service, they wrote me and gave me personalised advice that really helped in the beginning. I've been a cup user for a few years now and while I love a firmer cup like my lunette I just feel maybe it's a bit too stiff on the first couple days as I have really bad cramps. I bought the Saalt regular, hoping it's just slightly softer as I didn't want something too soft that I have to fiddle with(ex.my athena cup is great but have to move it around to get it to open). After using average size menstrual discs but realizing my lack of a pelvic bone to keep it in place, I opted for the Saalt Soft Regular in the misty pink. It came before my period so I’m dry testing it and actually felt for my cervix knowing what I’m looking for now. It leans to the left a bit but I cut the stem so I’m hoping just bearing down enough then pinching the end to break the seal will work. Similar to the disc

I have the Salt Small and I really really like it but I had a notable amount of leakage during one period that was really extremely heavy. I bought the saalt small and struggled a great deal getting a grip on the base to break the seal and get it out. Everytime I tried it took me over an hour with bearing down and breaking the seal, which would quickly reseal as soon as I tried to get it out. I’m not really sure how to make getting it out become less of a struggle.
@PeriodNirvana
@PeriodNirvana 3 жыл бұрын
Can you reach in once the cup is low enough to reach but put a finger all the way to the top, then push inward to break the seal and pinch, drag the base with the other hand? If this cup continues to be so hard to remove you may be better suited to a different style, either a longer cup easily reachable, the Flex cup which break the seal for you, or potentially a disc since those are suction free.

Saalt didn't exist when I started using cups but I need a new one I would definitely give it a try. I tried a firmer brand (Fleurcup) in both sizes and they both leaked SO BAD. I almost had to leave work to get clean clothes more than once. I honestly think it was so firm that the seal was easily broken whenever I moved around. My much softer cup (Femmecup) is my goldilocks cup ❤.

I don't know if you or maybe someone else might be able to answer but... The first time I ever used a cup (pre-baby) it was hard to take out. Now that I have had a baby I tried again with a cup again and I couldn't get it up far enough and the stem was hanging out and it was easier to take out. My servix is I guess average when I'm on my period I haven't actually checked since having my baby. Anyway is the a cup that would work for me or should I just go for a disc? I feel like a disc would be easier for me because I've used nuvaring and you have to put it in and take it out exactly the same.

I wanted to switch to a menstrual cup. I took the quiz, measured my cervix (high), got a recommendation for a cup. Tried it and it was a traumatic experience. I couldn’t insert it (kept popping open) for more than 30 minutes. And then removing it was even more traumatic. I couldn’t reach it easily and when I finally did, it was another challenge to find purchase on the stem to pull it out. It was also very uncomfortable against my bladder and I couldn’t pee well all day, just trickles. I was sore for two days after. I might have scratched myself. It was also very messy and not suitable for my outdoor shoots where the facilities are not the best and have limited water supply, and many people share the facilities so you can’t take too long. After that first try, I went back to pads. 😔 I’m wondering if a soft cup would give a different experience. I could use it when I’m just home and have access to a proper bathroom.

first and second month was a traumatic experience for me as well but the third month i was able to get it in using lubricant (i only used water-based oil at that time). it help to slid in faster before the thing popped out. my first cup is firm as well and the technique i learned is it's ok to let it pop inside as long you feel the whole rim is already past the bent part (cervix) and you push the bottom all the way in till the rest of the body slides in the cervix. as for getting it out, you squeeze it and assist pulling it out until it bends into c-shape and it will go out much easier. i also apply lubricant in the getting out part as well

I have studied from you about measuring a cervix and found that im about the average. so I tried an Organicup size B. for first time of use, I have a problem that the stem annoy me a bit so i reinsert deeper which i feel better. The next problem is that it made the cramp worsen, after take it out i feel better. I'm not sure that an anxiety is also the cause of the pain. The last problem is that the rim hurt me even i take it out very slowly. Now, I fear of the pain during insert and take out. Im in Thailand and there's not much brand i can choose. Q: Does size B too big for me? Should i try Organicup mini or size A (between mini and A, which will be better?) or should I change to saalt soft?
@PeriodNirvana

If even Saalt Soft gives you an issue you are quite sensitive. There are softer cups (the chart on thecupchart.com has firmness scores, you need a 1 or a 2. Saalt Soft is 2.5) or you can consider a menstrual disc since these sit in a different place and are less likely to cause pressure. If slow urine is not bothersome, then you can also just keep using Saalt Soft. I get that with some cups and I don't mind it. Only bladder pressure bothers me.

I find it boggling when you say you shouldn’t feel it inside. I feel everything. I always have. Tampons, cups, all of it. And I don’t understand why. It’s not an insertion or position error, I got so frustrated i even made my gyn help with putting a tampon in to verify placement because - and I mean this - I feel it. All the time, no matter what. I can have sex fine with no pain, it’s not vagismus, I just don’t understand how some people do not feel tampons or cups or discs. I mean, is that literal? When you say you don’t feel it? Or are you really saying “I get used to it”? Sorry. You probably won’t even see this. I just wish I didn’t feel everything 🤷🏻‍♀️

I am being literal when I say that. You should not feel or even detect a tampon or cup or disc inside. They should not cause friction, pressure, and certainly not pain. There is a "hyper awareness" often associated with cups and discs and a new user but this goes away in time. Anything past that would be an indication that it's not a good fit. Have you ever talked about it with your doctor? They might be able to give you more information about your anatomy and if you describe it, explain what it is that is.

Please go to a doctor to see if it's save for your body to use a cup could cause you to have a prelapsed cervix n it's no joke very painful n I never see anything r anyone talking about it just telling you to use a cup but you should b without seeing a doctor first

There are no studies linking prolapse to cup use. Always break your cup’s seal at removal. Your comment is harmful and leads to undue hysteria. Cups have been in use since the 1930’s and are studied to be as safe as tampons.

Thank you. I'm trying to do research for my daughter. She wants to buy one, and we're trying to look at the pros and cons. So far, we don't trust this company since they don't even know that only women use these products and not "people". Because God forbid you say women plus people who don't identify as women.

@@lifeofbeautyk I spoke to my OB/GYN about cups and discs. He was definitely a fan. No weird chemicals like tampons (which can also cause micro tears in your vagina when inserted/removed). He said he had done plenty of reading regarding safety and had zero concerns and recommended them without hesitation.
