Honestly I can't believe this. Years ago there was this racing game I was interested in called V8 Superstars racing on ps3. People always complain about how simple the guitar is in these kinds of songs. In different genres of music different instruments have more importance in the songs. These kinds of songs are drum orientated and the guitar follows the drum kick line for the most part to make this kind of metal sound more pumpy and deep.

Now that bands are focusing on writing music based around that sound, Djent can be considered a sub-genre of Metal. Periphery uses Djent chords in a lot of their songs, so yes, they are Djent.
