Some of the inflections leave a little to be desired compared to the original. But overall it’s better, as a new periphery fan (got into them December 2022 but have listened to nothing but them for 6 months) I actually really love the purity of the p1 vocals. P4 got me into the band, and I absolutely adore p4, but something about the og p1 feels so… unique. I love it. He added some changes and inflections that take away some of what i loved about the original, but the sound quality is amazing

Parts of the new vocals for the P1 songs are really epic, and parts I don't love. The screams are great but the cleaner parts are aggressively whinier than any other record. Which to be clear I don't mind on the other albums, but it seems really out of place here. I love Sponce and absolutely agree with Misha's decision to keep him.

He's definitely gone poppier as Periphery progresses. I love this band, but P4 is their weakest effort with weird songs like Crush and It's Only Smiles
@BenjaminKuruga3 жыл бұрын
@@drumsno I thought Crush was interesting with it's electronic components. It's only smiles, being a happy upbeat song about Spencer's sister's suicide definitely had it's place on that album which was overall pretty dark. Fans had the same opinions on every album since P1 though, so your comment isn't surprising.

@@drumsno How is It's Only Smiles a weird song? o_0
@drumsno3 жыл бұрын
@@osnad First of all, it's about Spencer's sister killing herself, yet it sounds bright and poppy so it's weird with no debate necessary. But then in terms of a Periphery song it's also weird. It starts with a video game type synth, and it's basically a pop song with some heavy guitars. If you don't think it's weird, you must be weird :P

Alot of people it seems feel that way, personally I love the re-records of the vocals, Spencer is my favorite vocalist of all time, and with that being said I do not like his falsetto that much on P1, it's very flat and nasally, his vocal chording and articulation on these tracks to me are alot better.

It's a night and day difference for the worse. I can't believe nobody sees this haha. I give him credit for trying. This ain't it, chief. While comparing artists on the same material is inevitable, claiming Spencer "disgraces" the track or is entirely "wrong" for Periphery is subjective and dismissive. Both singers bring unique strengths and interpretations: Chris Barretto: Brutal, aggressive vocals, often described as "demonic". Fits the heavier, harsher side of Periphery's sound. Contributed to the early "shock factor" of the band. Spencer Sotelo: Diverse vocal range with clean and harsh styles. Melodic, catchy hooks and harmonies. Offers a wider emotional spectrum for the music. Addressing Specific Criticisms: "Nasaly toddler": This is an unfair personal attack that disregards Sotelo's technical skill and stylistic choices. Vocal styles are subjective, and Sotelo's approach contributes to a different feel for the song. "Pop singer register": While Sotelo utilizes clean vocals more prominently, Periphery's music remains firmly within the metal realm, incorporating heavy instrumentation and breakdowns. "Wrong for metal": Metal encompasses a vast spectrum of sounds. Sotelo's vocals push the boundaries of the genre while retaining a clear metal influence. Ultimately: Enjoying one version of the song more than the other is perfectly valid. Claiming objective superiority or dismissing an artist entirely is subjective and unproductive. Recognizing the unique qualities each vocalist brings to the song fosters a more open and respectful discussion. Spencer was also the missing piece to the puzzle that is Periphery, and Misha saw that! That's why (and for many other reasons) Barretto was sacked. So do us a favor, keep the bickering to yourself! Go listen to Monument or Ever Forthright (if you already aren't) if you prefer Barretto's vocals so much more. Remember, music is art, and appreciating its diversity is key.
