Assuming they didn't use extra samples under the snare sound, the snare sound surely gets close to what I (and probably many drummers) call 'perfection'. It's this robust, full scope, explosion of fat midrange gunshots. Granted, the whole drum mix sounds fucking killer. I'm not surprised if Adam Getgood mixed this, he's also mixed their albums (and Devin Townsend's last two, which sounds the best ever). The guy's maybe on of the best pop/rock/metal mixers on the planet, he makes everything sounds impressive, fat, yet beautifully balanced and with every instrument still sounding crystal clear ( I know it's subjective, but still). That's really hard to accomplish.

+Will12 Will12 Ghost notes are often described as notes that aren't heard but felt, you can definitely hear them though. They're those extra quieter hits on the snare in between the accented/loud hits he makes.

So many things I learned from learning music from artists I like is that it's not just abour "what drums are they hitting at what time and beat" but that Every Single Drummer has a distinct a unique technique that sets them apart. It's not just learning a periphery song. It's learning how Mat Halpern plays. Notice all the ghost notes on the snare, the constant quarter note crash or open high-hat keeping a steady beat while the left hand adds filler. How the double bass kick matches the chugging guitars in the heavier parts. I wouldn't emulate this technique to play a Rush song, and I wouldn't use Neil Peart's technique to play a Periphery song. Don't just learn songs, learn drummers.
