Seriously Alex, I hope you realize you are so incredibly important to this band. I remember during PNAS14 the first night when AAL and The Safety Fire played I could almost feel my eardrums tear. Standing bass frequencies of AAL specifically perfectly fitten in the room and you could hear the ceiling plates vibrate. Then when periphery played you did the audio and omg, not to hard but not too silent, just perfect. I had such an amazing blast. The same thing goes for their performance in Holland, the sound was insane. You are an amazingly important part of this band! Amazing job!

One thing to keep in mind in regards to the vocals-these guys had just traveled all the way from the East Coast to Japan. That's easily a day's worth of traveling and a 13-hour time difference. It's bound to do a number on anyone's voice. All things considered, I think it's a really solid performance.

Spencer's vox sound kinda fucked. Is this like a late song in the set or just a bad day? Maybe wear-and-tear from touring? It is cool to see what you do for the band though! So many dials, knobs and sliders. o.O

He was probably tired/ jetlagged from travelling to Japan. He also gives his 110% each time he steps on the stage so that could do it too.

Do you have any fucking idea about going live on stage and that too what spencer sotello does with his magical voice ??Go and try it out for sometime with a full band setup while touring and then listen to your voice (if u knw how to sing ).Btw touring as well as maintaining voice is not a matter of joke so better stop posting trash words and don`t try to put your logic in every fucking thing .

Perfect musicianship. It is incredibly difficult to sound that tight with three guitarist.
@Ampullae10 жыл бұрын
Pretty cool demonstration, but I noticed that the guitarists should pay closer attention to the intonation on those high notes during the main riff. 2:17 its hard to hear what key its in anymore... minor gripe for such a beastly song I guess, and the head banging is pretty sweet.

great vid, good mix, dude \m/ i like the vocals within the efx, sounds huuuuge, feedback and release in the right point. i don't have a good headphone now, but...maybe i miss some toms, and i would say the kick drum is too "clicky", quite out of tune, above all the mix. was the room too bassy? what about that hole in 100hz,125hz in the rta?
@OdindeSa10 жыл бұрын
Hey Alex , on your right the analyzer shows the highs curled a lot. Do you feel you need to keep them like that ? or was this venue such that it required them cut? Thanks !

I feel like the dB counter on your right screen can't be right... isn't 90ish dB relatively quiet for a concert? or is it because you're so far back from the stage? I really enjoyed this perspective though, I've always been super intrigued by the mixing side of music and it's really cool to see how it's done in a live setting. Hope you post more!

i do indeed, i have a pair of ACS custom In Ears that i wear for reference and for protection.
@NuttStock10 жыл бұрын
BrownBear96 Yeah man, it's the obvious thing to do, I'm only curious because you can hardly see any ear protection. Also, I often see sound guys during local gigs that don't use protection (which scares me :) )
@Hellion632510 жыл бұрын
is that spencer doing pig squeals the fuck
@Thardus61610 жыл бұрын
I think most of the recordings are done with frys for harsh but from personal experience, false chording treats your clean vocals a little better, so it's a better idea live imo
@Hellion632510 жыл бұрын
***** I mean just before the "Night will bring..." part... he does the really high pitched squeal thing lol

90% of live I've seen in my life is runing by the poor sound ingenering. Too much Kick drum and bass (causing the "I cannot hear the rythme guitar at all" effect), and too loud in general (I dream about Live without Ear protection all along) But sometimes you may have great surprise like this 14/12/15 at Lyon with Periphery ! Great balance, great tone, awsome work !
@Absolutelynotthat9 жыл бұрын
How does someone do what you are doing for a career? I want to get into this field more than anything in the world. I currently have lots of experience using DAW's but nothing really like what you are doing. Also is it just me or does the band tune down for live shows?

its a bass drum trigger, every band does this live so the sound cuts through all the noise, it doesnt sound good recorded on vid but if you were there it would sound a lot better.
@Adamski98610 жыл бұрын
H0022 The dynamics aren't consistent enough to be a trigger surely?
@darkides10 жыл бұрын
H0022 Adam Lewin It most certainly is not a trigger. The microphones being used is a Beta 91A and D6. Only time ive mixed triggers are for bands like Whitechapel and The Faceless

Whitest White I've seen Periphery live, Spencer ripped it. He was very chill too, he and the rest of the crew were headbanging in the crowd while BTBAM and Safety Fire were on stage - I loved it! What set me off though was the fact that this video was shared on their official FB page - You just expect slightly higher quality. Doesn't change the fact that Periphery is one of my favorites, ketchup FTW!
