Been getting to know and love Periphery over the past 20 months and Masamune has been my favorite for a significant time now. I don't know what makes this song specifically resonate with me so much, because I've had several favorite Periphery songs before, which were replaced by another one (sometimes to come back as my favorite because I discovered some new sht in the song), but this one has proper staying power for some reason.

In the last song that opening rhythm has chugs that ascend and descend in number. Listen to it: it goes “1 2 3 2 1 2 3…” and so on. That ends up being a rhythm that’s not cleanly in 4/4 so after four bars one of the 2 groupings is cut off when the whole pattern repeats.

Nice to see one of my favourite bands on here again. The new camera set up looks a lot higher quality, but idk, I’m just used to being able to see the whole studio and it just seemed more raw and genuine. But the new setup still looks good, I’ll get used to it. 👍

I’ve heard plenty of examples of people royally fucking up the chromatic scale. Or maybe they’re just really bad at their instruments. I have a song where I meld A minor and A melodic minor together so I end up with 4 notes in a row and I think I made that shit funky. It’s one of my weirdest sounding songs.
