You got me pumped up even after I've listened to this song a thousand times haha. They do a lot of "syncopation", where the time signature is often just 4/4, but they add accents where you wouldn't normally hear them. Or play something a different time signature over a 4/4 beat. You can hear the drummer usually keeping a cymbal or pedal-hat on the "true time". This is why it sounds off, but still has a groove.
@alexflannery93614 жыл бұрын
Deffinatly but it helps to listen to the drums with periphery because as soon as you can hear what beat the snare is on then its alot easier to understand for instance this song has the accent on beet 3 of every bar pretty much all the way through it but the guitars are just dancing around it on the up beat

Here’s a tip for headbanging to bands like Periphery: Listen to the drum cymbals. They are usually being played in 4/4 so it still has a groove. If you want another song by them that has a good groove, try Rainbow Gravity. The verses are awesome.

@@summeronio9751 it doesn't feel long to me. Once I hit play it feels like only a minute or two and I'm already 10 minutes plus into the song. I just lose myself in the song. Pure masterpiece.

Loved the reaction, this is my favorite band!! As others have said you really can’t do wrong with any song, they’re all amazing. But the 17 minute Reptile off their newest album is one of the best songs they’ve ever made. For shorter song recommendations, Flatline or The Way The News Goes are both fantastic. This band is a deep rabbit hole of incredible music!
@quinnmitchel40754 жыл бұрын
I feel like people nowaday who likr hip hop and rap would like some metal like thid that is all about the groove and theyd all groove to it cause they like rap hip hop for groove. This song is so heavy and groovy and melodic.
@iDustball4 жыл бұрын
The whole Juggernaut narrative is a great story for a concept album which The Bad Thing is part of. I highly recommend the song Stranger Things which is one of the most beautiful songs that had a solid range of both heaviness and melody with a lot of that progressive technically you were grooving with.

Listen to the Hi-hats for the tempo, not the kicks. The hi-hats are basically 4-4 timing in a lot of parts of the song.
@thelionzmusic4 жыл бұрын
The snare gives it away a lot of the time too, it’s just that we aren’t too used to a snare on 3 in rock music, it’s usually more electronic styles that feature this level of polyrhythms etc like (and I know I’ll get crucified for this but hear me out) dubstep, where the groove comes from the melodic elements rather than the drums.
@ebearorama66424 жыл бұрын
Yep! When you're new to this music you focus on guitars when really if you follow the drums your head is going to bob right along.

Actually, most of this song (except the breakdown after the first verse etc) is in 4/4, with the snare on 3, which is why it seems so confusing. The best thing about periphery (Apart from their raw musical talent) is that they know how to really go full send with the syncopation. If you want your brain to be completely scrambled, go check out Reptile, Marigold or Lune! Nice video man, it was so sick to see you lose your shit though, you earned a sub! Big ups man!
