Produced by North American Aviation, this 1960s film FIREPOWER shows the annual Eglin Air Force Base air show, featuring WWI, WWII era and post-Korean War jet aircraft. These include the supersonic North American F-100 Super Sabre, which is featured. Mock air strikes are shown on various ranges to simulate railroad yards, depots, and military installations of varying types.
B-52 bombers are seen at the 6:00 mark, and B-47s make a massed flyby at the 7:15 mark. Rockets are fired and bombs dropped, and 20mm cannon strafing runs are made against a ground target (some kind of obsolete WWII era aircraft). Napalm is also seen begin employed at the 8:15 mark, with huge strands of bombs dropped on the range.
A simulated atomic bomb release is seen at the 9:50 mark, culminating in an air burst.
The Thunderbirds flying F-100s are seen at the 10:30 mark.
Eglin Air Force Base (AFB) (IATA: VPS, ICAO: KVPS, FAA LID: VPS) is a United States Air Force base located approximately 3 miles (5 kilometers) southwest of Valparaiso, Florida in Okaloosa County.
The host unit at Eglin is the 96th Test Wing (formerly the 96th Air Base Wing). The 96 TW is the test and evaluation center for Air Force air-delivered weapons, navigation and guidance systems, Command and Control systems, and Air Force Special Operations Command systems.
Eglin AFB was established in 1935 as the Valparaiso Bombing and Gunnery Base. It is named in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Frederick I. Eglin (1891-1937), who was killed in a crash of his Northrop A-17 pursuit aircraft on a flight from Langley to Maxwell Field, Alabama.

Wish airshows were like this today. Would love watching all these old jets fly.. Didn't see an F-105 so this has got to be before the 60's..

The F-100 Thunderbirds were there around 1963-66. I got a signed picture of them and talked to them as a 10 year old. As others have stated this is an older film based on info shown and what I saw. Eglin had the climatic hanger to test new aircraft. It was open to the public during this event and had different areas inside which included anywhere from desert and tropical areas to Artic cold areas. In the artic area I saw one of the first F-111 swing wing fighters that was being tested. Also, my father was on the flight light when the SR-71 Blackbird flew from Calf. to Eglin in 65 min. Loved to watch the B-52 takeoffs near the end of the runway, such a majestic sight with the long wings swaying in the breeze and thunderous engine roar.

We were still using KB-50's in the '60s and KC-97's well into the '70's if the tankers seen are what you are basing your date on.

The 48 star flag says this show was before 1959. Also the cars in the parking lot look a lot more like 1940s and 1950s cars than 1960s, but I am no expert on that. However, the narrator also says there is "at least 1 of every operational aircraft". The F100C entered service in July 1955 - I believe they mentioned it in the video. The F101 became operational in May 1957 but it is not represented. So we can infer this video was from 1956 give or take a few months.

At the far left of the picture at the 3.01 mark you can see a couple of Voodoos parked on the ramp. Love the old Century-Series fighters.

The P-51 was brought out of retirement from the Air Force Museum in March 1957, the last Mustang in Air Force service when it was retired from the West Virginia Air National Guard in late 1956, and flown to Eglin for the demonstration to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the U. S. Air Force, as reported in the article "'Mustang' Taken Out Of Mothballs For Demonstration", in The Okaloosa News-Journal, Crestview, Florida, Volume 43, Number 14, page 3E. The demonstration also included a B-36 which was completely retired by 1959. This was also the first public demonstration of toss, or loft, bombing by the B-47.

Most of your subscribers probably don't like to read old microfilm and moldy newspapers like I do. I love researching obscure sources.

+Na Ardri You're right. Also, the flag at 12:56 has 48 stars which was changed to 50 stars in 1959.
