Presented by NBC in 1958, "Ten For Survival" was a ten episode series about man and the atomic age. This rarely-seen episode "What Do You Know?", hosted by Chet Huntley, examined public perception of the survive-ability of nuclear war. Two "average citizens" give opinions concerning various Civil Defense questions, and Huntley cites various surveys of public opinion, that are then rebutted (or affirmed) by an expert named Dr. Dreyer. The vice president of the organization that conducted the survey, Mr. Alberto Castelli, also participates in the program.

the roads would be blocked with traffic trying to flee the city and if your on the road when the weapon goes off your dead from the blast so i myself would stay at home and take shelter.

@4:55 They disagree. Interviewer reaction is classic. "OH Fine we have a disagreement here!" Ratings gold.

Seems to me that people are no better prepared today than they were back then.

@@wasweiich3459the UK “Protect and Survive” series talks about fallout protection in different kinds of buildings. You may be safer than you think. The current U.S. position is that a nuclear explosion would be an isolated incident and people would be rounded up and evacuated from contaminated areas. That’s why there isn’t a lot of messaging on the topic.

Chuck Huntley was a real independent journalist. Not like the opinion pushers of today 🤷‍♂️
