That introduction, first two minutes or so, including the song, was very revealing about the intention of these skyscrapers, and these projects in general. Taking out the last remnants of the “Old” world New York... replacing them with more profitable, less attractive buildings, while making sure to drum up public support for said new construction. The images and video are very interesting, thank you

Excellent comment. I caught that too. Building the new age "one world". Pay attention to these details people. The old system (national/structural/financial) is being dismantled and will collapse soon in order to make way for the new. Scary stuff but very real if one pays attention.

I know! Its mind boggling. I watched a documentary on the building of the Brooklyn Bridge (Ken Burns, maybe?) and the fact that it was constructed in the late 1800s, before motor vehicles, and its still in use as a major interstate bridge just blows my mind.

As a native New Yorker born in ‘46 (Greenwich Village) many thanks for this great look back in time at different men, no OSHA, incredible skill, fearless walking many stories high with no nets; just balance... Some great free verse and jazz. Definitely a piece out of the 50’s. Next door to Saint Pat’s and across from MOMA. 666 Fifth. Worked at Morgan Stanley after I got out of the Army; couple of great dinners at the Top of the Sixes.

It is by only the grace of God I was able to find a short video of my Fathers Construction company during this time in 1959 the very year I was born. My Father Louis Pegno Sr. and Grand Pa Angelo started in 1935 with a model T ford and a pick and shovel. My Father was L&J Contracting Corp. My Father at the time was the only company aloud to handle TNT. in New York City for over 20 years in the 50s and 60s. early 70s, The Blasting permit was issued to a chosen few by only the NYC Fire commissioner, From there came the power carry license was issued to a competent trained by my dad worker. If you notice the line drilling and the Blasting Matts and line drillers and air compressors marked L&J CONCRETE CORP. The old front end bucket was his also powered by cables not hydraulic. notice the phone number RA8-0500 on the air compressor .My great Father Louis and L&J concrete did many many foundations in NYC, Fred Trump was a buddy of his and gave him many blasting jobs in Queens along Queens blvd. The U.N. Building 1947.as well and The World Trade Center foundation,1964 Wolds Fair, The Globe Foundation .and demo of the Fair later on., blasting and excavation,, many more He Blasted Bear mountain and cut the road way for many miles there . In the Bronx the cut away entrance road when entering the bridge , you can see the line drilling along the walls going in and under the apartments and so many more.. He blasted and line drilled half the bed rock in NYC. In the video he the Handsome fella removing and replacing his baseball cap. I am very proud of my Fathers blood sweat and tears he left behind. I will Honor him and his memory and thank him for the Man He Built... Thank You POP.. I can still hear that 3 min. warning .I think of you everyday...

Very interesting film!! Loved it!! Then after it's built you have a staff to maintain it. I don't mean the just mopping the floors and keeping the lights changed. I'm talking taking care of all the HVAC/R, electrical, elevators, plumbing, painting..... Everything. Most repair work is usually all done inhouse except for major renovations or a renter's special needs when they would use an outside contractor. Speaking renovations, I wonder how many have been done there since 1959. HVAC equipment doesn't last forever. I'm certain the electrical system has been expanded years ago to keep up with all the electronic devices we all use. Likely several times. I didn't notice a sprinkler system but I bet it has one now. There's way more to a large commercial building than most people imagine.

In 1613, the Dutch trader and explorer Adriaen Block and his crew became the first Europeans to live on Manhatten Island. However, the first white man known to have visited Manhatten Island was an Italian, Giovanni Verrazano, who, sailing in the French service, entered the harbor in 1524. In September, 1609, Henry Hudson, in the service of the East India Company, explored the harbor and river, and soon after the Dutch began trading with the Indians. In 1624 the Dutch West Company sent the first settlers to manhatten. By 1626 the settlers had laid out a town and built a fort. The settlement's governor Peter Minuit, had bought Manhatten Island from the Indians for the equivalent of twenty-four dollars and christened the town New Amsterdam. Van Twiller, William Kieft and Peter Stuyvesant were Peter Minuit's successors. The town prospered in 1653 it numbered about 800 souls. In that year it was incorporated into a city. In 1664 Charles II King of England granted the New Netherlands to his brother the Duke of York, who took possession of city and renamed it New York
