I too am female and love this channel. My dad was a builder and I spent a lot of time with him and learned a lot. He also used to build concrete tanks using giant moulds. Back in the day these were poured by bucket. I used to go to work with him sometimes and help. Really hard work carrying buckets of concrete up the ramp and pouring the moulds.

This is a great book with a lot of good construction tips The sheds featured in this book are probably built better than most peoples' homes. kzbin.infoUgkxzaRUJNcbypw-fRBDbqqz43ULIa-1EGP- The author uses only the best materials and methods. It proved to be a great resource for my little 8' x 10' shed project and more 400+ plans. If you are turned off by the flimsy tin and home center kit sheds; if you want a shed that has some character and can be used as an extension of your home; then this book is for you.

Hey guys!!! Because the owner is a bit older I strongly suggest upgrading her master shower to a curb-less one!!!!! This will allow her to get in and out easier should she develop knee or hip issues and need a walker. It would also be helpful to put a wider entry door to the bath/bedroom-in case someone needs to use a walker. And it will be much cheaper than ripping it all apart later-ask me how I know😢

With the floor trusses there is no way to recess the shower pan for a curbless shower.

I'm a disabled female and my doors are 48 inches wide and I have to be careful taking my power chair through them. I also use regular wheelchair it isn't any easier. So when doing doorways for retired people they need to be at least the 48 inches. Just speaking from experience.

Yes doorways that cannot allow a walker are a problem. We found out ours was too narrow when my husband had surgery and now are renovating our old bathroom!

The recess would have to have been designed into the floor trusses beforehand. But yes, it would have been a good idea.

I’m glad to see you left the diagonal bracing attached to the walls while you built the interior walls. Those trusses are trying to push the walls out. The interior walls will keep them from going out once they’re all built. Great job guys.

I worked the outdoor green chain in Prince George BC back in the early 80s. When we did 18 to 22 foot DF 12 by 12, it's a real trick to pile them off the chain. You need to leverage the energy from the chain then leverage off like a teeter toter, and slide it on. If you stop along the way it's 3 guys to get it moving again. You need 5 men to stand it up, if it's green, just to be safe.

So many crews will tack everything together and plan on coming back later to finish nailing it all off which doesn't happen all for the sake of hurrying things along. Nice to see you going back to nail it up nice and tight. I've worked on about a hundred homes where the framing was just basically tacked together.

Pro-tip. When building a wall in place instead of raising. Nail bottom plate, lay out, nail top plate but run it long! (big pro tip). Run it long, nail the second top plate, install studs and then for the wall end stud, simply nail it to the bottom, plumb the stud and nail to the top plate. Bingo, doesn't matter if the abutting wall is out of plumb, this wall will be plumb regardless. Once nailed off, cut the top plate flush to the end stud. When given the opportunity to run things wild and then simply cut it flush, it will save you on head scratching time.

Don't do glass walls, Ms. Homeowner. If you don't want them getting soap scum drops all over & looking gross, you have to wipe them down to dry every time you shower!! We were able to make our shower big enough to not use glass shower doors - it's just open - never any mildew, never have to dry glass - sooooo easy to clean. And, no, it's not cold!! Beautiful home, location, the best contractors!! 👍🌟

You could use a 2’-8” 6-8 door for the master , they accommodate wheelchair access just fine unless they think that they will become exstremely heavy and need over sized wheelchairs . The only time you would need a 3-0 door is if they plan on moving a hospital bed thru it 😁

the roof is simple - love that setup but with blocking why not just add 2x4 every 4 feet and same on the top - i think for a small ranch you could do this with 3 LVL and better/easier to insulate but whatever works - the general design is ok - the flat sloping roof can work well with solar - another advantage

It's funny that you mention the left side circular saw. Out here in CA everyone uses the worm drive saws for construction and they all have the blade on the left and you mount the blade with the logos in. We actually refer to circular saws as skilsaws after the old HD77, even most of our cordless saws are worm drive. I don't do much carpentry but we use them for cutting steel and aluminum with the carbide blades.
@annalongfield Жыл бұрын
That's because skill brand saws are the originals of the tech and the only brand that runs the logos out.

As I understand it, in which direction to turn the screw to tighten the blade, depends on whether the electric motor of the skill-saw is left or right of the saw-blade. And yes, I had that battle recently myself, the screw had to be turned opposite from normal in order to loosen the blade.
