One of my friend’s boyfriends thought having a period was literally 5-10 minutes of bleeding and then business as usual. He thought it was called a period because it was so short… explaining why people say ‘period’ at the end of a sentence. I mean??? I gave him a slight pass on the naming of a period because we’re from the UK and say ‘full stop’ at the end of a sentence rather than ‘period’ to mark the end of a sentence. You should’ve seen his face when we told him how long periods actually last on average as well as what endometriosis and pcos are. Moral of the story, EVERYONE needs to be educated on the body; it’s not only scientifically important but it also encourages empathy. (We thought it was pretty funny, though).

I started my period at 9 YEARS OLD. And aside from the first round being light spotting, I have spent the last 17 years with irregular, painful periods. My hormones were So borked that I was Physically Ill. One time, in my fiance's dorm room, I got such bad hormone sickness that lifting my head made the world spin. I struggled to keep everything down, until they made me a serving of rice made in chicken broth mixed w a lil alfredo sauce (gross sounding, I know, but I was starving sick and desperate, amd it actually tasted ok). I get the depo shot because i just have to go in every 3 months to get a shot. I tried the pill, but I struggle to remember to take my adderall. I ain't gonna remember to take my BC pills on time. The implants always seemed so Invasive, so when my fiance told me abt how depo completely Stopped their periods, I was sold.

I got mine at 12 and about 6 months after getting it I was diagnosed with endometriosis, so I was put on the pill, well that was the same year hurricane Irma happened, we had my grandma (super conservative narcissist lady that we no longer speak to anymore) staying over because she lived in an area that was evacuated, she was staying in my room while I stayed in the living room with my cousins, sisters (my aunt and uncle stayed in my sisters room) so me knowing how crazy my grandma is hid the pills in my underwear drawer under everything, well she snooped in all my drawers including that one, she basically in her words “confinscated” them, and then that night I went to get my pill for the night, I looked and they weren’t there so I freaked out and went to my mom telling her they were gone, my grandma comes in and we both ask her where my pills are and she says “I threw them away, you are 13 and don’t need them, only people who need them are married or w****s” and then told my mom “you better hope god forgives her, she will burn in h***” my mom gave her 15 minutes to pack and leave before she would call the cops, and I remember getting my period the very next day, and the day after that I was brought to the hospital because I couldn’t keep anything down, was going through 4 pads each hour, and could barely even move without feeling extreme pain, my grandma found a hotel, and then told the whole family my mom threw her out “unprovoked”

My periods in middle school were pretty bad, irregular at times and bad cramps. But one time I actually had a period go on for 3+ weeks and in a constant heavy flow. I actually had to go to the hospital cause I became anorexic. Then I got out on the pills, out happened a second time in highschool but when I went to the doctor who did take a look down there, they told me they had no idea what was up. Everything looked fine, no problems at all. I'm still on the pill but it hasn't happened every again and I'm doing better. Although I'm still terrified at the idea of going to an obgyn...I don't want to go and I think the only way I will go is if somebody else forces me. Like how parents make appointments for their kids to get shots and you have no choice in the matter, cause since I have the choice in going to automatically say no cause I'm to terrified.

i got my first period when i was 11(which was only a few months ago but my birthday happened to be the day after yesterday so i'm 12 now-), but it was a while after i went to comp and LUCKILY wasn't in school cuz i was homeschooled at the time, also luckily i was pretty quickly able to tell i was on my period and already knew what it was so i was pretty prepared, plus my older sister had already gotten her first period when she was younger so we already has period pads and stuff in the house. A few weeks or months before that i was already getting signs that my period would start soon cuz i was randomly having blood appear when going to the bathroom-,. BUT when i first got my period i wasn't 100% sure it was my period starting and that it might've just been another sign, but on that day i went shopping with just my mom for some quality time together, it was nice but occasionally i'd feel bad during it, it wasn't cramps cuz it would've felt a lot worse if it was, it was just small 'splashes' of pain nothing big. when we were going home i let my mom know (i already told her earlier about the blood) and when we got home that was when i knew it must've been starting, but their wasn't much blood so i thought it would be fine, the next day i woke up, went to the bathroom and that was when i knew it was REALLY starting, i told my mom about it and she let me know there were pads in the bathroom, i got a box of them and put on the pad, BUT i wasn't getting a single cramp, there'd be waves of blood, some occasional small 'splashes' of pain here and there but overall it wasn't that bad. which i'm GLAD AF- cuz ya'lls first periods sound like living HELLS-

I got my period when I was 8 - 9 years old. Meanwhile all my classmates go theirs at 10 - 11. Even worse, I was, and am, a very emotional kid, so my mood swings were kinda, ignored until they reached the angry point of them and my mum was like "I think you're period will be starting soon. You're more moody and tearful than normal." and ffs she was right. I also one time missed school in P7 (Scottish go brr) because of how bad my mood swings and bleeding was. Luckily, or unluckily, my period stopped. We still don't know why, I am on a waiting list to be seen by a gynecologist(?) tho. Like. It became irregular when I was 13, it became VERY irregular when i was 14, 15, and 16. and now at 17 it's stopped completely. As a trans guy who's period brought great dysphoria, on one hand I am fucking happy, on the other hand, I am fucking worried
