I have owned 4 soft top MX-5s (1993, 2011, 2019, 2019) . My first 2019 was lost in a garage fire. The 2019 is by far the best one I have owned. I love the creature comforts. It is like your favorite pair of jeans, hard to get in, hard to get out, but you feel so cool in between.

Surprised how many haters went out of their way to take shots at a car that is clearly not for them...why? Must be they equate their "manhood" with the car they drive. Like Barbie's pink Vette? We have had A LOT of cars. and Mazda's have been consistently among the best, but that's just IMO. Can tell you that the Miatas have lasted longer, been as much fun, and kept value better than a whole lot of cars including: MBZ, Bentley, Alfa, Corvette, Ferrari or any British car. I love all of these cars for different reasons. Lighten the f*ck up!

owned a '92 for seven years, stripped; no air, no limited slip, no stereo, steel wheels and the most fun I've had owning a car. My only complaint with this example, not a true convertible. You end up with an automatic targa style roof...I own a '14 Vette Conv 7MT Z51 and it feels like a large Miata and that's the best compliment I can pay it....

I'm an old guy, but I prefer my 2001 softtop 5-speed without all those electronic gadgets. They distract from the pure joy of driving and are more things to fail and bring you back to the dealer. Rarely use 5th gear, don't need 6. Charm of Mx5 Miata is simplicity!

I’m a middle age guy with a 2020 RF GT. Mazda wouldn’t sell enough cars to justify making them if they didn’t include modern conveniences. It’s also nice getting an LSD and Bilstein shocks, 181 HP and only a bit over 2400 lbs. The modern conveniences in no way distract from my driving experience. The “electronic gadgets” can be ignored or left off. This is still a very driver focused car. I’ve never had more fun in a vehicle. I respect the entire MX-5 lineage and Mazda for its continued commitment to the model.

this was world car of the year in 2016 for a reason, being a real soft top convertible. The lines with RF totally chopped the sleek flow with bringing the fastback hard line too far back to an already short rear end. It looks like the Buick Opel of the past, or an 80’s Corvette targa top. Add to or take away from its original lines to attract the new buyers that needed more enclosed protection from the elements, and you forgot what was perfect about how sleek and special this car looks as a true convertible. Its marketing and more sales for Mazda. Doesn’t make it even close in looks to the soft top. I own the 2016 soul red soft top, this car with silver wheels and that red, stretch out the lines giving it a longer look. A dark color on the miata with dark wheels only hides the long carved shape and design. That soul red is really the only color that shows off the body shape. In the evening light, it takes on almost 3 shades of color, like a jeweled garnet stone. You cant expect the wrong dull color, dark wheels and a hard top to give you much beauty. I actually dont know why you would want to buy a white version, black version, or that primer gray color with dark wheels. Sometimes I think less than half the world has no concept of a special shape and design, no artistic understanding.

RF tops have been really noisy since they came out. People complain about the wind noise These cars beg to have the top down, so don't bother with RF. I like the NC with the PRHT. It’s a 100% convertible top with a much better driving experience. Plus it’s a full hardtop not a half top like this with huge blinds power in corners and turbulence inside cabin. Mazda needs to make a full hardtop like the NC again.
@rembo1833 жыл бұрын
Blind spots in the corners with RF are problematic compared to better NC which is much cheaper with depreciation!👍🏻😊
@EjinRenos3 жыл бұрын
RF has about as much turbulence inside as the softop. Only trouble is crosswinds will cause a bit of noise. Also the blind spots are negligible and nowhere as bad as they seem.

southern tommygun. I was driving my neighbor’s new MX-5 a few days ago; I was very impressed. That said, my wife’s new Mazda 3 has some features I was surprised the MX-5 doesn’t have, not because they’re necessary, but, since they’re bundled in the 3 . . . why not? Mazda’s all wheel drive system is excellent and it will be necessary on the MX if the turbo option is available on the MX. All in all, Mazda continues to impress, personally I’m looking forward to what they do with their electric vehicles. how is the wind noise with the hard top down? I heard there is quite a bit of noise.
@Modern.Motoring3 жыл бұрын
Top down and windows up reduces it quite a bit. It’ll always be there but it’s not as intrusive as what I’ve read.

@@Modern.Motoring So if I were to put a lot of highway miles on a mx-5 then I might be better off getting the soft top then. Little things like that tend to annoy me. I was trying to go in to test drive one but they only have the 100th edition in stock atm :(

Does the driver's side rear pillar on the RF bother anyone when switching into the left lane or merging?

Would it be too impractical as a daily driver? The only thing holding me back at the moment is that microscopic storage..

It’s good as a DD if it’s just you - cargo that doesn’t fit in the trunk can go on the passenger seat. I’m a single guy and it’s ideal for me.

I daily drove mine in upstate NY. Rain, snow, or shine. Being in the army means you gotta carry a lot of crap with you, so the trunk space isn't great if you're constantly carrying two+ bags on you. I could still comfortably fit my assault pack (backpack basically) stuffed to the brim, my toolset, jack stands, and extra coolant and oil, with room to spare in the trunk. I'd get an RF if you plan to daily one simply because it's nicer in the cold months and better on road noise. These are stupid simple cars on maintenance too if you buy a 2019+ ND2. the previous years have transmission trouble from what the forums say, and the second gens seemed to have solved it.

They need to get rid of that tombstone tablet sticking out of the dash lol. In a miata you don't even need a touch screen, or something smaller but not above the dash line would be nice.

or if you were able to push that down and get it out of the way for better visibility, less distraction when you wanna just drive.
