The beauty of lost media is that not all media is completely lost and still has a chance of reocovery, but some media, for one reason or another, is irretrievably lost, and will never be seen by the public again. Here is a list of just some media that may very well be lost forever.
Edit: YES, I know Smosh got back together after this video came out. Please leave me alone
Seconed Edit: Even though this video has been up for almost a month, only now did the the BBC decide that one of the segments infringed on their copyright. I guess they don't like to see anyone doing well when their content is involved. Sorry for the inconvenience

There was a spanish teleplay serial of "The Picture of Dorian Gray" that is lost forever. It ran in the 1970s and I used to watch it with my grandmother who was Puerto Rican on one of the spanish TV channels. It ran like a soap opera similar to Dark Shadows.

I specialize in adaptations of a story and get so many questions about 7 BBC productions 30s-50s. It boggles people's minds that 3 were probably junked and 4 were probably never recorded in the first place. It's insane to think how much content the BBC produced that is just gone forever.

This is happening today. Disney released a movie called Crater which was a ratings disaster, so they took it down and have no plans to make a DVD. That’s fifty million dollars completely gone.
@futurestoryteller
@futurestoryteller 9 ай бұрын
Amazingly too the laws only protect their rights as a corporation to do whatever they want with their media, and have no real interest in preservation. By all accounts the movie was unimpressive, but otherwise fine. Movies with worse reception have gone on to become cult classics, if nothing else, but they have no interest in allowing people to find hidden gems, and there is nothing stopping them from destroying it forever. Worse yet, that's not even the tip of the iceberg. Disney and Warner Bros. in particular are wiping dozens of movies and shows off the cultural map on a consistant basis. Including mostly critically panned efforts, such as the TV adaptation of "The Right Stuff"; and of course - infamously - critical darlings in some cases, such as the TV adaptation of "Westworld" It should quite literally in my mind, be illegal not to release this media in some form. Corporate entities when pulling media off the market should be required to announce a timeline of their intentions, and if they have none, relinquish the copyright for the work and/or otherwise submit it to be indefinitely archived.

The Media: Yeah, but this time it's true look at these numbers. Ant-Man and Wasp performed below _expectations!_ The Executives: The most profitable thing to do with all these movies and TV shows we've spent literally hundreds of millions of dollars on is never once show them to anybody. The Creatives: What about this stuff we made that a lot of people have watched and already like a lot? The Executives: Wait!? What!? We showed that to people?!! Get rid of it, make sure no one ever gets the chance to buy a copy. I mean really: 1. Complain about the death of cinema 2. Destroy cinema. 3. ??? 4. Profit?

The saddest truth is that wiped tapes are unuseable, often containing splices which make recording on them inconsistent. VT engineers mostly followed orders from management to wipe them, but refused to reuse used tapes, as they would be blamed for the dropouts. Some VT engineers ;-) didn't follow orders and just tucked them away somewhere, still friends with a few. There is always hope to find old media that was walled up somewhere.

There are two South African made films - Tokoloshe (1965) and Majuba (1968) - which were never correctly archived and Majuba had one hour removed from its' running time of 165 minutes by greedy exhibitors at MGM South Africa who wanted more screenings per day as it was a box office hit in its' day. Out of a total of 5 film reels of Tokoloshe - starring Sid James - only three remain and the excised footage was never reinserted into Majuba.

I'm actually skeptical on whether Assault Human is actually lost forever, I haven't seen any actual evidence to state the tapes were indeed wiped, other Tokusatsu shows from that time like Thunder Mask and Majin Bander that are thought to be destroyed and long lost aren't lost at all, but can't be released due to rights issues with all the tapes still existing (Thunder Mask) or the rights holders not seeing any real interest in releasing them (Bander), it could very well still exist in NTV's/Union Eiga's archives but has just been forgotten about. I also don't really believe that they "accidentally" wiped all 13 episodes but it could very well have happened.

One thing that should give us all hope for missing episodes beig recovered, is the human factor. It's easy to look at documents and say this thing was binned, or this thing was never sold abroad, but there could easily be mistakes on documents, people lifting tapes destined for the bin, mis-filed prints.

Just my two-cents as I can see you're a new creator and you've put a lot of work into this video: when I read a title along the lines of "lost media that will never be found and you will never see it" it makes me sad and not want to click on the video, because half the fun with lost media is hoping and dreaming that one day the media can be found! Like I get it, some stories really seem that way when you read that "all of the remaining copies were burned" and stuff, but it just makes for a more pleasant viewing experience if the audience has that hope that it can be found. Again, just my two cents, and above all you're the creator so please title your videos and write them however you please! Maybe there are people in this community who are intrigued by how they'll never be able to see or play a piece of media ever again?

I like to think that the creators of said lost media would appreciate it.

Even though I'm a hardcore Doctor Who fan, if we never see Feast of Steven again - I don't think I'll weep too hard Especially since it gets a bit racist!

Your attitude is worrying. If you found the sole surviving film can, you would destroy it because this 50+ yr old episode doesn't meet your contemporary ideals.

@@yellowpete79 At no point in my statement did I claim I would destroy rare film cans. I simply said I wouldn't be too upset if the episode was never found. Your attitude worries me more. You seem to enjoy twisting the context of other peoples' words.

@@yellowpete79 how does someone being mostly apathetic to whether or not they finds something immediately translate to them wanting to destroy it to you?

There's a song I heard on the radio back in like, 2005. Three months I heard the song. It was an alternative or even hard rock genre from a band called 'From The Ashes' or something. But the band had to change their name as another band already existed with said name. I don't remember the new band name or song title.
