Comfrey is a great source of useable calcium. I dry it with raspberry leaves and mint...equal parts. This makes a tasty and delicious tea that helps the body with muscular/skeletal issues. Use a teaspoon of dried mixture to a cup of boiling water and let it steep for about 10 minutes.

Last year I identified some comfrey that was growing just to the west of the house. This year I thought I found more. I thought cool. Then I saw that the deer were not chomping on the new that I found. Let it all grow. Did you know that comfrey and foxglove have a similar appearance in early growth? Check the leaves. Foxglove (toxic) leaf edges are serrated. Comfrey leaf edges are smooth. Careful out there folks, you don't want to make a tea out of the wrong plant! 62 and still learnin'.

If you use comfrey on a wound, be sure to wait until the wound closes. The comfrey causes such fast healing, that it can cause the skin to heal over before the inner part of the wound has healed, and you could end up with a pocket of pus sealed in. I split my face open across the bridge of my nose. I had to get stitches, but as soon as the skin closed, I started applying a comfrey poultice every night. It healed up so nicely hardly there is really hardly any scar at all. My chickens love fresh comfrey, while my goats prefer it dried, unless they are not feeling good, and then they'll eat it fresh.

I grew up eating fresh comfrey as a kid. I'd eat just fresh leaves. As an adult I make it regularly. I blend fresh leaves in the blender with orange juice and bottled peaches. Within a week my face will looks younger and pains in my knee went away. My body better. My father probly ate more. Comfrey than any living person I'm aware of. He literally lived off it. Here's another recipe for quick comfrey tea fertilizer that a farmer gave me: Cut up enough comfrey to 3/4 fill a ninja 12 - 16 oz. oz container and add water. Don't pack it too tight . Turn on the blender until it's cut up real fine. Do that process three times. Take your three containers of comfrey and put it in 15 gallons of non chlorinated water . Stir the solution once a day for three days. Mix it up to 50/50 with water and fertilize your plants. I use Bocking 14 Russian Comfrey, it's NPK is 1.8-.5-7.9. Simple and effective. Good luck.

We use it for "chop'n'drop" mulch, in our JADAM barrel, around our walnut trees. The chickens ADORE the flowers, it's a great delicacy to them. During the winter I will crumble some in the chicken feed, along with dried oregano, thyme, yarrow... I dry the leaves, and infuse avocado oil to use in salves and soaps. Just this evening I made a dry poultice for Mr Rosehaven's sprained finger...after a few hours, could bend his finger without pain.

My comfrey arrived on Thursday, thank you. I wasn't sure I was ever going to have any, especially when this spring I finally got one tiny plant to grow, and our little cat, who likes her leafy greens, ate it.

I read a a post that stated that different parts of the comfrey had different levels or concentrations of the minerals in the plant, and you had to understand which parts were more laden with the chemicals the plant produces. Depending on whether you were using it externally or ingesting it dictated what part you used. Just what I read.

A story..... I was rendering lard...and forgot about it... When i opened the oven door...it was smoking real good..... I pulled on the rack and it was stuck...i pulled harder and it splashed on my thumb.....all the skin melted off my thumb...i saw all the tendons and muscles.... I let out a blood curdling scream...my daughter ran out and got comfrey...mashed it up and went and got the "kit"..... She covered my thumb with mashed comfrey and wrapped it...I slept with it on my thumb.... In the morning....we took the bandage off and looking closely...one could see the skin knitting together on my thumb... After a while...i did physical therapy to bend my thumb....that was 20 years ago........💖😁😉

An older herb book, copyright first 1980, "the Way of Herbs" by Michael Tierra, C.A., N.D. has 4 pages on comfrey, and addressed the impact on the liver being exaggerated with common sense details from the source, and when not to use it.

That is one of the best herb books available ! I have used Comfrey since 1978. The government done research using Comfrey , 1940s, it was the best thing ever used on 2nd , 3rd and chemical burns. Raw Comfrey leaves , blended up , with raw garlic and raw honey. Left on for a week to 10 days. Skin came back before scabs. Its the best , bar none , for burns ! But the government considered it as a catastrophic failure , because it only works FRESH . They couldn't use it frozen or dried , only fresh. I've taken it internally many times without a problem. I blend it ( fresh leaves ) with a little water , add to milk or juice, many put it in hot water as tea. I could bore you on it for hours. There is not one documented case of Comfrey hurting a human ! They mention the PA s in it.

People now , for the most part , believe in DRUGS. There isn't a drug that cures anything ? But most have crazy scary side effects , but people knowing take them ! One article on Comfrey and people are scared of it ! Look at Michael Tierra's credentials ! Who he studied with and where ! He knows herbs and foods. Anything can be a poison. Too much water will kill you ( some kids die each year from college hazing during gallons of water in an hour ) . Salt can kill you in large enough amounts , internally or externally. " Scientists" point to one part of an herb super concentrated and fed to a rat or mouse ( with a very low immune system, breed that way to get sick easier ) for 2 years , a rats life , and it gets SICK !!! LOL . Comfrey heals , many many things , externally , diaper rash , poison oak , cuts , burns , etc. Internally , food poisoning , ulcers , CANCER, and speeds healing of most things , IN MY OPINION !!! I CANT TELL YOU TO USE IT !! THATS ILLEGAL !! Like ANYTHING , use in moderation ( not daily for LIFE ). It's sad so many die from fear , to not use ILLEGAL now herbs. I'm not condoning "weed" lol. I'm talking healing herbs ! The plants God created to heal you , ( leaves as your medicine , fruits as your food ) . FYI I'm not afraid to say GOD!

I would suggest yarrow for open bleeding wounds and bruises. Comfrey salve is permeable to the skin and I’ve used it for a broken bone.
