@@PermaPasturesFarm21 💗🤝💗 Thank you for the data and laughter. I actually learned about "MARKING THE TERRITORY" from a blue blood when I was babysitting a wolf dog. Many years later, poor thing would immediately urinate when my son (at the time) would visit it's human family. Great info on tree stumps.
Everyone laughed at me several years ago when I told them about this. I have used urine to keep deer out of my garden and it works. I was told it only worked if you use urine from a man but that's not true. As a single woman I didn't have an option but obviously the deer can't tell the difference because they stayed away. Glad you did the video because I have a stump in my hen house I need to get rid of. I don't use chemicals so that stump is a thorn to me but now I know how to get rid of it. Thanks Billy.

Now sure about the sexes for urine effect on animals. But I do know that for women to use urine in the garden they need one of those plastic things that make it possible to pea standing up from what I’ve read and made sense of because this way you get away from the possible contamination from the anus when it drips down due to female anatomy.
@sustainablelivingwannabe17562 ай бұрын
@@DaveE99It‘s not difficult if you have one of those composting toilets where the liquids and solids are collected separately. Also, women are capable of squatting down and just peeing. Since our backside is clean before, there won’t be any contamination.

Great tip on stumps! I’ll have a lot of them at my new place. When I was in the city, I only had access to leaves for carbon and I would poke holes in the bag of chopped leaves and pour the “nitrogen solution” in and shake it up, which worked great to “precompost “ the leaves before adding them to my big compost pile.for the ladies out there...this is easily done with a big gulp cup from 7-11!😉learned how to do this in the Army during Desert Storm with a poncho on because we had no latrines when I was out on advance party or doing an engineer support mission. Yes, it’s weird to some people, but it’s an amazing amount of free nitrogen. Also worked great to break down straw bales for a straw bale garden experiment that I did. Adding large amounts of this to garden soil long term can add too much salt, but compost microbes and insects can mitigate sodium amounts. It’s for sure cheaper than buying nitrogen!

In the mid 90s I volunteered at an appropriate technology center in Guatemala. The outhouse was set up so that urine passed through a hose to a jug outside and we sprinkled wood ash on our poo. After 6 months the seat was moved to an empty side and the full side was capped and composted for 6 months. After 6 months the compost was removed, shaken through mesh wire and deposited in the garden or bagged for later use. It had an earthy smell and didn’t seem gross to hold in our hands like soil. Thx for bringing up the topic. Great video!
@DaveE994 ай бұрын
That’s actually really efficient. Was it anerobic composted then? As you said it was capped?
@DaveE994 ай бұрын
The other way I’ve seen it done really well was they use a Methane bio digester or biogas bag, and it can be hooked up to a toilet. So that it gets sucked into it and flushed. Was really efficient. I wonder too if throwing biochar into the composting toilet fixes issues like smell.
@DaveE994 ай бұрын
And I guess as far as wheather it’s safe or not, a lot of regenerative agriculture preaches constantly looking at soil and compost under microscope. Even a regular person can learn these skills. To a degree to be more certain you could just physically look at samples of the waste😊

I kid you not, this man isn't lying. I had chickens for some time, and I would occasionally have something pick one off in the dead of the night. I was at work one day when an old farmer had picture of chickens. We struck up conversation about them, and the topic of their disappearances came up. He literally told me to pee in a 5gal Lowe's bucket until it was full, then sprinkle it on the perimeter of my property. I swear, that stuff lasted for weeks after only a single application. Still, do it weekly, but it does work. It keeps all the critter-getters at bay.

I live in a small lot subdivision, yet close to open areas so I get deer in my yard especially when their food is scarce. So I have used urine for a perimeter repellant from time to time. One day I came home to find my neighbor taking pictures of my front yard. Up close she pointed out 3 deer at once munching away on my flora. I mix fruit trees, veggies, herbs, edible flowers right into my gardens along with regular flowers and shrubs. (My kids call it my grass eradication project.) It works. I do not put it directly on anything edible. A few month ago I had a bear siting in my driveway feasting on one of my overloaded apple trees. This is a good reminder to be proactive for that in future years. Also may be good idea if I have to have a garbage can with meat scraps out to the curb overnight.

I have used my own magical elixir for a few purposes. We have coyotes that cross through our woods, sometimes, on a path we call the coyote highway. I created a fresh deposit once and the highway traffic ceased for quite a while. Second, it is sometimes deposited in fallow garden beds. It is nitrogen. I do not use it when growing something that will be eaten, or even when it will soon be planted. But it adds nitrogen and the strength gets tempered a bit with a little time. It also has minerals. Your body uses and needs plenty of minerals, and how do you think it gets rid of minerals that it no longer has use for? They all pass through your bladder. What follows my deposits grows well almost always, I just give the deposits some time before using the beds. I also will add it to my compost pile and let it temper there. I know a few permaculture fans that do not like not using any nitrogen or carbon that leaves their body. I prefer to use modern plumbing for my carbon emissions, but once during a plumbing emergency, it went into the compost pile too, with a little limestone to keep things from being too fragrant. Just watched my first couple of your videos. Enjoyed them. Plan on watching more. Thanks.

So, great info about how to use it for stumps. I'm wondering, if there's only 2 of us and we have 35 acres of timber and stumps to go along with those - can I use other sources of cheap nitrogen of I have it? In short, is it just the nitrogen that is breaking or down or something more in the urine?
@PermaPasturesFarm213 жыл бұрын
I can’t say for sure but my best hypothesis is that the high nitrogen in the urine is doing most of the work. As far as “other sources of cheap nitrogen“ it would depend on what they are and where those sources came from.

Didn't know about the use of urine as a natural 'stump-grinder.' Useful, thanks for that. I do use my own urine around apple trees, thornless blackberries, and some other fruit plants - to deter deer from hogging all the fruit and stripping leaves. They can be a menace for that where I am. I have tried to encourage my lads to save their urine in containers outside, but they forget, or it's more convenient to just use indoor facilities. Pity, given what you say about the concentrated hormone levels. I'll try again with them. When my dad was a boy, his parents were very keen and competent vegetable growers, and what they used to have was a movable outdoor privy in the garden. Dig a pit, place the privy over it, a shovelful of garden soil over your 'business,' when it was almost full, fill in the rest with garden soil and move on - which would save all the effort and disgust of clearing and moving human solids from a more permanent structure.

The cats shredded my Posted signs....in retaliation??? BTW, the male Jack Russel terrier stands on its front paws, to pee higher up on the tree...implying a much taller dog. Zoos also sell Lion Urine, which I am told works VERY well as a deterrent. -M
