That guy was an unstoppable force on the football field. I think had it not been for his catastrophic, career ending injury and his uncles death, Boobie would’ve probably tore up as a back in the NFL! It’s just heartbreaking how things turned out for him as far as his playing days. But him not giving up and turning his life around after an unfortunate incarceration is the real story of Boobie Miles.

He was decent, but not as good as some of you would have us believe. More mythical than anything at this point and people liked his name. He was never in the same category as other high school backs like the Earl Campbells, Eric Dickerson or Adrian Peterson. Heck, he wasn’t even close to Cedric Benson from his own area.

The biggest thing I remember from the book somebody on the other team called him the N word and with tears of anger he made them pay; 8 Carries, 232 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was primarily the blocking back that year, if he was the lead guy he probably would’ve ripped off 500 yards.

Dam 8 carries for 232 is amazing.... especially in Texas high school football. It's crazy how a racial slur was used to bring out the best in him , and unfortunately that's the world we live in. Funny thing is the only time all races unite in Texas is during football season (High School)

Many of us have memories at some point in our youth of an area high school back who was a terror and so far ahead of everyone. Then something happened either legal-wise or injury-related and it never worked out. Then these people mythologize that player, like he was the next Barry Sanders if not for X, Y, and Z. It's just not true. It's a big world out there. He'd go to a university where there'd be ten other guys who were all the same thing he was, just in another area. If he somehow rises to the top of that pile, he's nothing more than a candidate who might, but most likely still not make it as a pro. In some ways, maybe it's better for their football legacy that circumstances kept them from getting a shot. They wouldn't have made it if they got one anyway.

Beats his brother up with a beer bottle over his head multiple times, Now he's failed to register as a sex offender and is going back to prison on a 13 year sentence. This gentleman was talented but he's no legend. Started his Jr. year and rushed for a little over 1300 yards, then was injured in scrimmage his senior year then quit the team because he thought he should start right after rehab. Hardly a stellar high school career. Played one season at Ranger and quit and failed out. There were better athletes and backs that came out of Odessa. Give me a break. Imagine if doctors then had the advance knowledge, to repair a torn ACL, nowadays. Then Boobi would've gotten that surgery, rehabilitated & rested his leg, & would've played ball in his senor year properly. Perhaps could've gotten into a great college with a football scholarship, then could've been drafted to play pro. Yet gotten that home he promised for his REAL dad (his uncle I mean) & for his little brothers. But as cocky and arrogant he was, he chose to just rehabilitate the leg and use a brace. The rest is downfall history....
