The movie had his banners read '71' and '72' but he played in 75-77. I played against him in March of 1977, I guarded him and fouled out by the middle of the 2nd qtr. He was quick and had serious handles.

This movie touched me as a trouble talented child growing up in a rough environment! My coach showed us this movie after we made the tryouts! We went to win conference lost in the sectional championship! We changed the community !! We gave hope to generations after us! Thanks for your story Ken Carter!!! 10 yrs later!

THIS MOVIE MADE ME CRY AND THE REAL MAN CARTER IS BLOODY INSPIRATIONAL!!!! Also SAMUEL JACKSON played his character so well. I actually cried when he came back to the gym (where’s he’s about to pack up his things) only to see his students studying with their tutors 😭😭❤️❤️😩😩😩😩

It is not the end result, but the journey. I loved it when he called his players down about humiliating the other team. To bad more coaches don't teach that. Win and lose with class.

Grew up around the area and went to summer school at Richmond High. You could tell he made an impact over there by the way people talked about him. Actually, he was kind of a hero in Richmond period.

i was a student @ richmond high back in the 80s an i was also worked there i remember chris dixon and all the other team mates and i remember coach didnt let them play cuz of sum grade issues

I love this movie but as a Richmond native the movie tried to make it seem like Richmond was just one big hood when its not. There’s central, narf (north), deep central (deep c), and the southside which is divided af majority of dudes from north were going to Richmond high

This Film's so Inspiring. My favorite film as 'Basket Ball' not only being my favourite sport but also a very good message. Get educated no matter how Famous, Popular, or, Glam you are. Manner, Discipline, And, Education is what's needed.

BLESS Him..He was right, Giving young men discipline, and a chance to go behind just being an athlete, but getting a fulfillment education...My father taught my sister and I that discipline, respect, and being honorable will help us be productive adults..We both Graduated College with honors..I Respect EVERYTHING this Man stands behind!!!❤❤❤❤

I was a varsity athlete myself (football), we never had to dress up on game day, and to this day I've never understood why some coaches make players do that.

I think...for boys growing up in the hood..in a bad neighbourhood..wearing a jacket and tie on game day..changes the way they think of themselves..it may work positively for them.. maybe with another bunch..it may not be necessary.

Amazing how old posts are for this video. It's almost back from the days of teachers, coaches and parents that cared. Before "timeouts" were a thing and the planet never needed dr phil, steve wilkos, the police, lawyers or jerry springer to deal with fucked up kids. There are still a lot of GREAT teachers and coaches, but the parents are fucking that up, too. I am almost 50 and I still call my friends parents Mr or Mrs and have teenage daughters who do great academically, but I take as much pride in people that tell me how well mannered and polite they are.
