To sum up my reason why... Its because I have naturally, undamaged straight pieces in my hair and I was overrr them not curling up. I used to just leave the perm rods in overnight and take them out in the morning but the curls wouldn't stay and they looked more define then the others. I thought of perming but wasn't sure if I wanted to pay alot of money just to perm a few strands. I hope this helps those who struggle with straight pieces in their hair.

Rika Adorn I'm glad you acknowledge that you can have straight pieces that are healthy. I'm so tired of people thinking its damage hair. I'm only blowdry and use curling iron maybe 10 times in my entire life. I'm 44 and have not use heat on my hair in over 15 years. My hair is very healthy and not damage. I see some get on youtube talking about the hair damage because it want curl but appears healthy. I have 3a, 3b and 3c hair.

I am a licensed cosmetologist and I know SO many other licensed cosmetologists who can’t properly do a perm and have it turn out curly. I give you major props for following the correct instructions and being so diligent with it. I get many clients who have the same problem as you so don’t worry it’s just natural for hair to change texture over your life. My only advice is to be careful so not pull on the hair after you take it out of the rods and to try to not wash your hair for three days after you perm to have a longer longevity! You did a great job though for someone who wasn’t trained! :)

Oh honey. Thank you for making this. You're the only other woman I've come across who has the EXACT same texture as me with the EXACT same problem. I started my "curly girl" journey about 4 years ago and the straight/wavy pieces next to my face and very top of my head is infuriating. The rest is all 2c, 3a, and 3b mixed. I've been wresting with the idea of getting a perm but was unsure how that would work with only doing select pieces. Thank you, gorgeous!

There is nothing wrong with being mixed. I try to teach my children to be proud of their mixes race and that there really is no need to prove their blackness. The same way blacks, white, asains, and Hispanics can be proud of their race so can mixed race people.

I’d say it is risky, depending on your hair type. but for me, i was born with ringlets and I always had them throughout my childhood. As I got older, I started thinning out my hair often. I got a Brazilian blowout every 2 years and would straighten everyday. when my hair finally got back to normal, it was soooo bad. Just bad.... then I decided to get a perm for my whole head and it’s been 2 years since. I transitioned and everything, I feel like the perm kind of saved my curls because now I have ringlets again lol

That’s how all curly hair grows out, and not just curly all hair types grow out of the scalp as straight strands until they reach a certain length depending on your hair type. Then your hair type will change to its natural type.

Jade Phantom No, those hairs are straight as well. It the hair has to be shaved to buzz cut level or lower. Because hair can only curl if it’s long enough to if it’s not long enough it will be straight. But type 4 hair coils pretty fast before it even grows an inch.

Thanks for this video. A majority of my hair is 3c/4a but I have some pieces over my ears that are pin straight and some pieces around my crown that are 2a before I style and I can get them to a 2c with styling. I’m going to get a spiral perm on Wednesday and then start the curly girl method to help the regrowth all be uniform.

I’m thinking of getting a perm cause my hair just lost all of its natural curl pattern after I bleached and straightened it for a few months ( I died my hair back to a darker shade a week ago and have been trying to get my curls back (I was a 2C/3A and now my hair is just a frizzy mess) I’ve been doing lots of masks and started the curly girl method but the truth is my hair is dead so I think the only solution is to get a perm and not use heat on it till it grown out and back to my natural healthy hair. Ok I have very complicated hair. Some of it is ringlet curls, some is just wavy and the rest is straight and frizzy. I absolutely hate it and feel so defeated that I can’t say that I have curly hair or that I have straight hair. Putting product on it does great for the wavy and curly part but not for the straight part. I would love to perm my hair and I probably will but my only worry is my hair is bleached blonde. Any thought on what I should do? I’m thinking to just keep it natural and don’t use bleach or heat for a few months and let it get healthier and then try the perm. (P.S. I got so get up with my half curly hair and I tried chemically straightening my hair... didn’t work and just literally broke all my hair off)

Damn. My hair is probably like this and I can't get it to stay that way. In the first place, when I try to use all those lovely, softening moisturizing products, I end up with product build-up. I do best roller-setting my hair after striping it clean with lightweight conditioners.

I have 3b/3c hair that falls within a day. Doesn't matter how I protect it, care for it, what products I use, etc. Which means I end up having to wash my hair more and add more product, which then means I'm damaging my curls. So I'm thinking of getting a perm to enhance and have long lasting curls. I don't have time to deal with this hair, but I absolutely love my hair. My hair texture is super odd. Its like half wavy and half straight.. when I naturally had ringlets. I started crazy colors at around 12 and now im 15 and yes, that took lots of bleaching on my dark hard to bleach hair.. So like 7 colors and bleach sessions later, ive tried chopping and products and nothing will bring them back. Im about to perm it tomorrow so my hair can be evenly curly and textured and about a montb from now ill put a dark dye ontop of my unnatural ginger strawberry color I got going on to avoid bleach. (its very gross and grown out looking but my stylist said its best to wait and separate perming and dye for healthier hair. Hopefully the dye doesnt ruin the curls and they last long enough for my hair to grow a little more to chop and keep new hair growing in. My hair grows pretty fast) I hope it looks good agh im scareddd

Cindy Manuel Fried my hair too but with straight hair perm. It really sucks but trust me it gets better, I finally have grown 4 inches of my curly roots and blow dry the top and keep it in a low pony tail to conceal the transitioning hair. I recommend you take biotin and massage your scalp with coconut oil before you shower and take a multivitamin along with healthy eating and exercise and your hair will grow back very quickly !
