Mufti Abu Layth al-Maliki discusses the permissibility of seeking Allah's mercy for non-muslims who have passed away. This is in response to the controversy following the death of Stephen Hawking.

As much as i disagree with what you say sometimes, i agree with some points you have made in this video. People are judging Stephen Hawking very badly, saying that he will go to hell - who made them Allah?- Allah has already said noone knows if they are going hell or heaven - Allah decides that. If Allah has said 'this person is going to hell' like firaun , then we can say that particular person is going to Hell because Allah has said so. Some muslims need to fix up. this man was a man of knowledge, yes he was a atheist but he never said anything bad about islam or any religion, he just had a belief saying that he does not believe in God. Which is fine because Allah has said there is no compulsion in religion, his religion/ideology was atheism. He did not spew hatred towards religion whether it was islam, christianity or any other religion. I would of understood if he openly hated on Islam but he didn't - so consider less hatred towards him. Lastly, this man was paralyzed for majority of his life. So show some compassion because he has held it together till the very end. You lot who say 'he is going to hell', fix up. You don't know if you are going to heaven or hell. By the way muslims show some compassion towards non-muslim please. Our way of life is very strange to them because they do not how we live, becoming a muslim is a way of life, which can take majority of people a long time to handle it properly. im pretty sure the born-muslim people have a lot easier to live as muslim because you have accustomed to that way of life.

Go trough his channel, i think you will find allot of these contradictions where Mufti deals with them. He is not afraid to tackle topics that are not discussed otherwise amongst many scholars. He is also not afraid to say what he believes with proof even if it goes against many views. May Allah guide us all.
