I enjoyed your sketch n chat video. Watching your gouache paintings has planted a seed of giving it a go. I like your gouache sun set. I can relate to going down that “rabbit hole” of always viewing but not doing. One can view so much that you feel like you’ve done it. Lol. Something I need to work on. Thanks for sharing your time.

Everytime i have to go home i feel i have left a piece of me there by the Sea & i take my memories with me like the wind going thru Seagulls flight. Been a very long time since i have been to the Ocean tho unfortunately

Hi Sarah, just something to take into account regarding the rotrings. I used them a lot when I was a engineering student. They tend to dry and clogg very easily. I would recommend cleaning it with abundant water if you are not going to use it for a while (maybe even in just one or two days). My preferred sketch of this sesion is the second one. I love the reflections.

That's great advice! I didn't realize they would need to be cleaned so often but I kinda get why

Hi Sarah! I don't know if this will work against midges, but I have found putting whole cloves into a lemon is a natural mosquito repellent. You could try it. Thickly slice a lemon and stick 10, or so, whole cloves in each slice. I use a lot of essential oils for things. Alone, or in combination, I find that lavender, peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, citronella and neem oils work for bugs. Maybe soak some cotton balls and put them near your tent. You could also put them into a spray bottle with water. Spray the area around your tent. Neem and citronella oil combo works great for chiggers. Maybe midges are the same thing as a chigger or could be in the same family?

I’m a seamstress, and a painter! I love your idea of using magnets! I’ve car camped before and keep regretting not taking the time to make some curtains. I would look for “black out” fabric or curtains already made that you cut up. (I found some cheap at a local Tuesday Morning store ( Las Vegas, NV). The black-out part is vinyl, so it probably won’t fray too much.

To me, a sketchbook, a journal, is a commitment; it stares out at me in judgement when I haven't touched it in a day or two. I'm going to use loose paper, and paint when it occurs me to. If I know me, I'll paint more often.

@@SarahBurnsStudio Aw, I appreciate it too! ;) I've just got to the part where you're talking about your solo road trip - please film it as I'd love to feel like we're going along with you! It sounds so exciting. I went up to the Highlands of Scotland for Christmas 2015. We went to a beautiful part of the west coast, the Silver Sands of Morar (is that right?). There were white houses in the hills/mountains and it was so inspiring to me!

@Natasha Newton Ohh I've heard of that! However I'll be up on the northwest coast, but Morar is definitely on my "to do" list. And yes I'll definitely be filming the trip. I’m going to have to vote for the last painting. I, too, feel as though I’m standing on top of the cliff, looking out at the water, the mountains, and the sky. It is so peaceful. If one were looking for their happy place….this could very well be it. I could imagine sitting there painting this view from so many angles…so beautiful. Thank you, Sarah for this delightful tutorial. BTW … my second choice would have been the gouache painting. I loved the sky, and the way your colors just exploded on the paper..fantastic! Again, thank you! Nell

It's like magic, seeing how you carve out of the white piece of paper a wonderful landscape! I have a feeling that it's been always there and only now you free it with your brush so that everyone can see it! In the second one I caught myself repeating " seagulls, seagulls, please put some seagulls between the two cliffs", 😄 You asked not to copy your art and I feel terrible, because I did copy one of your paintings from streaming videos, although nobody would ever believe that they might have something in common, I will destroy it. In my defense I can say,it was my first ever attempt at gouache and I was too much of a chicken to paint something else. Sorry 😔
@SarahBurnsStudio3 жыл бұрын
Please don't destroy it. That is mainly for the people who copy almost every painting I do and post it on instagram/sell prints of it (it happens more and more). So please don't worry :)

@@SarahBurnsStudio Thank you! It's very gracious of you! I am afraid it's a bane of all good artists since beginning of times - their art being copied and a profit made of it, and it's both sad and disgusting, but the copy always be only that- a copy. I can totally see how distressing this must be to you.
