Perpetual Motion Machine
A desktop free energy device based on the principle of electrostatic asymmetry. (Response to this video seems to have polarised into two camps, those who understand and those who don't!)

The onlly way to prove this works is to build it from scratch With independent witnesses, and on independent witness cameras....otherwise everyone will say there is a battery Inside it etc....come on, update it...

Finally an intelligent and fully functional scientific apparatus. this demonstrates static electricity principles and they have been shown to work and other types of devices. this is a straightforward honest attempt to show that you can have electricity static electricity move objects . this has no real torque or power but it is an excellent fun device that anyone could build to have something to watch and talk about.

Very impressive static motor, kinda reminds me of a Holtz electrostatic generator. If only we could power a model boat with it! This is pretty cool but I would love to see you do an experiment where you place your device on a 5 to 10 dollar rc car, (super light weight) using some sort of capacitor and get it to move. Then you would have something awesome to show for it and possibly even patent. The car wouldn't move very fast and may be jerky but at least you could show that it actually generate usable power.

Examine the V holders on either side would you imagine those to be something trying to be friction free - or something trying to GET friction.... It's the latter. There is either one or two pager motors right before your eyes in the axle. They or it is/are activated when he places the wheel in the V's he never really shows it spinning long enough I imagine it would spin out of control. Cheers - Patrick

This must be a trick of some kind. Waller's explanation doesn't jibe with electostatic theory. Static charges lose charge as they are influenced by other charges to reach a state of equilibrium.

My guess would be a wire connecting the bearings through the chassis. Basically a homo-polar motor with a small battery and magnet in the axis of the wheel. The reason I say that is because you notice towards the end of the video when he lifts the apparatus. It begins banging on a brush. It seems to express a decent amount of torque and continues with adequate speed. I guess one never knows until one tries though. If anybody has replicated or knows of a replication video I would enjoy watching. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to do one.

@zeffur7
@zeffur7 9 жыл бұрын
It appears that he may have magnets embedded within his rotor along the circumference of the rotor. If that is true, then all he has to do is provide a pulse magnetic field to his conductor posts with battery power to cause an emf that will rotate the rotor.

@innovator1998
@innovator1998 9 жыл бұрын
Scientists and engineers accept the possibility that the current understanding of the laws of physics may be incomplete or incorrect; a perpetual motion device may not be impossible, but overwhelming evidence would be required to justify rewriting the laws of physics. Any proposed perpetual motion design offers a potentially instructive challenge to physicists: we know it can't work (because of the laws of thermodynamics), so explain how it fails to work. The difficulty (and the value) of such an exercise depends on the subtlety of the proposal; the best ones tend to arise from physicists' own thought experiments. Because the principles of thermodynamics are so well established, serious proposals for perpetual motion machines are met with disbelief on the part of physicists, which makes a discussion of the merits (if any) of the proposal difficult if not impossible.

I think, at the side add copper wire to connect, then this copper wire, loop a normal electricity wire = Electricity will run into the Wire and Just connect the end to anything u want to provide electricity. There is 2 Point of the Wheel, so both ways can create Electricity. The thing to discover is: if bigger/more copper = more electricity or fatter wire = more electricity(but i discovered that, fatter wire can Hold more Electricity, means i discover can make a "Sudden Fullcharge").

Let's see. I've built many such electrostatic motors. If I had to guess, I'd say that this is an "Electrophorus cake," and it self-powers in the usual way that Electrophori always do. I bet it won't work if the wood is replaced with plastic. Where electrostatics is concerned, wood is a resistor: a connecting wire.

+wbeaty Hi, why would you want to make it so it doesn't work? Did you try to replicate this machine?
@wbeaty
@wbeaty 8 жыл бұрын
+HitAndMissLab several others have built this and found that it doesn't work. (Search for their videos, and the comments for each.) But, this failure is expected, since there are NUMEROUS hoax videos for free-energy on youtube. KZbin is famous for fake free-energy. Maybe someday there will be a genuine discovery posted here. But nobody will believe it, because of all the fakes. However, the motor in this video might be an INTERESTING fake, and not just using some hidden batteries, or drive belt made of black thread, or wind from a hidden fan, or ion-beam from a VandeGraaff machine off camera. If it involves Dielectric Absorption or "soakage" of the insulating black disk, then the disk will behave like a leyden jar. But it would become a weird leyden jar which only can discharge very slowly. Capacitors with charge trapped inside the dielectric will "self-recharge" if not kept shorted with a wire. This "self-recharge" might be used to power an electrostatic motor. It might run this disk motor for quite some time, perhaps many minutes, before needing another re-charge.
@HitAndMissLab
@HitAndMissLab 8 жыл бұрын
+wbeaty Thanks! I've checked more than half a dozen videos that tried to replicate this one. In 90% of cases they haven't included metal plate on the back of the disc rotor, that's clearly shown here. They've only done tape-overs. Of course its not going to work, because the metal back plate is there to increase the amount of charge on the tape-over. Other guy connected it to the Van der Graaph's generator and it claimed it doesn't work. Which is clearly a luck of understanding. As long as the charge Q is of the fixed quantity it works as perepetum-mobile. In the above example Mark Waller clearly shows that he applied a certain fixed amount of charge to the device. Its not that YT is plagued by free-energy fraud. Its plagued by curious, but ignorant people, who expect to invest one hour and get Nobel. On YT people make claims before they made an effort to understand the phenomena. You seem to know more than the rest, so I appealed to you to possibly replicate this. Because you can at least explain it properly, how fields work etc. I am going to replicate it as well, its not that hard to make. One can use the old CDs because they are already perfectly balanced.

Hey we just got through telling the other guy this is not perpetual motion it is electrostatic even it won't run forever when you get high humidity in the air they will stop and restart that's because it's static electricity, static electricity was known before batteries were, Nikolas Tesla stated that when we learned to hook to the will worlds of nature. Can you just started learning that! Good job
@MarkWaller
@MarkWaller Жыл бұрын
In the (almost) ten years since I first posted this video demonstration of 'perpetual motion,' I have never claimed that it would solve the world's energy problems. One reason for this is indeed that static electricity performs poorly in damp conditions. Anmyone with a basic knowledge of science will underrstand the other reason.

If one could tap into zero-point energy (i.e energy from within the vacuum of space, then that would drive a perpetual motion machine--it would also mean the owner wouldn't have to pay any electric company for power...)
