Thanks for the first positive review I've seen on the new QX50. As you said, its having an open mind when reviewing. We have the 2017 QX50, the one with the 325hp V6 and non CVT transmission. It rocks!! It looks like they fixed the technology deficit that existed, but to me if they put back the old engine and transmission ... with the new technology ... you'd have a car that is even better.

I think a lot of people would agree with you on that also, if they kept that first generation mechanical design and equipment but used the body and interior on this it would be a really compelling vehicle.

The CVT adds to the driving experience, in my opinion. You don't have to shift while going uphill, no shift jerking when shifting, smoother acceleration, better fuel economy. But I embrace progress and do not follow the herd.

CVTs are usually very good, the technology needs a bit of refinement but overall they do work well. It's just the reliability that isn't great, specifically with Nissan over the past decade.

Infinity has one of the best design languages out there. 4cyl detracts from luxury ambiance. Nissan should've stuck with their rear drive architecture with long dash to axle radio and stuck in the hybrid v6. My q50s hybrid gets great mileage and power. Love everything else

The RWD definitely would have been a better package, maybe it would have been better to collaborate on the GLC-platform instead of this GLB one. Either way Infiniti really needs to figure their stuff out soon, this is a good crossover but it still doesn't solve their reason to exist.

@@PRNTestDrive very true. The merger definitely nulled their sense of direction. I think either get back to their athletic roots with hybrid and eventually full steam electric.

I like the looks of it, insise and out. Like the old schoolish analong gauges. Rode in it as a passenger and on the rough GTA roads it didnt feel very solid in road imperfection damping. The VC engine long term reliability still to be determined

I suspect the reliability of the engine will end up being the killing blow for this car. Right now they work, but in a few years as mileage starts to add up there will be problems.

I have base 2020 QX50, love it, great power, and gas mileage. carplay, automatic reverse breaking, lane departure warning,bland-spot warning, and seat is so comfortable,drove to Vancouver from Calgary back for forth in two days, no any back pain, I'm almost 40 years old now. I know many people don't like CVT, but it's not what you think. It's pretty good.

It's an unproven technology essentially being tested on this and the US-market Nissan Altima. I can see it being a headache to maintain down the road, the diagrams Nissan provided that we put in the video shows that added complexity and I can see how it'll require serious maintenance.

A lot of people did. Even after driving this car I still feel the brand needs to end, this is a good vehicle but Infiniti still doesn't seem like it has a plan moving forward. The only rumours I hear are about a QX55, basically the coupé version of this. They need to reinvent their entire lineup.

Sadly Infiniti was getting somewhere with the G35/37 FX35/37 but it went all downhill afterward. Nissan has now a very long way ahead of them assuming they don't go belly up first.

I agree 100%! Infiniti needs to re-offer hybrids, specifically plugins to take on the future competition. BMW X3 eDrive, Mercedes GLC 300e, Audi e-tron, lots of competition in this segment with nothing serious from Japan.

LOL we are usually thinking alike but not this time; there is no added value by using a highly complex engine with the associated high reliability risk with no benefits. The Acura RDX has slightly worse fuel economy but would be likely very closed to the QX50 if it had a CVT so the Nissan fancy engine is not bringing anything to the table. I am not saying the RDX is top notch but just using it as a comparison point. A GLC is even closer to the QX50 fuel economy and a BMW X3 beats it. At last a CVT does not belong in this class of vehicles IMO. So my message to Infiniti is go back to the basics and don't put all your eggs in one basket nobody wants.
@PRNTestDrive
@PRNTestDrive 4 жыл бұрын
The CVT is definitely a bummer. If I had absolutely no choice but to buy an Infiniti I'd buy this one, but since that isn't my situation I'd take almost anything else like the Lincoln Corsair for comfort or the BMW X3 M40i for performance. Infiniti still needs to figure out what it wants to do.

Infiniti has some beautiful cars but I think their problems are dated technology, older models, CVT transmission in some models, Advertising, and Dealer Networking.
@PRNTestDrive
@PRNTestDrive 4 жыл бұрын
It's a mess of problems for them, it almost feels like Nissan is stuck with this brand and can't figure out a way to exit without causing major problems with their dealers, as I imagine most Infiniti dealers are either shared with a Nissan like they are here, or in the case that the buildings are separate are still owned by the same dealer principal.

It's too bad they didn't put the 9G-Tronic transmission in this though. The CVT is meh, they've already licensed the 9G for the Titan. Might as well use it.

Nissan just needs to kill off Infiniti and move all their luxury stuff down into the Nissan brand, then make all the vehicles in Nissan, Infiniti quality in the top trims. Nissan pretty much already does this anyways and you can see where in the top trim Nissans, that they intentionally cut corners to leave room for the Infiniti counterparts to exist. Toyota also does this with Lexus and Honda with Acura. The only Asian company making worthy luxury upgrades over their mainstream counterparts is Hyundai with Genesis. That required a completely different architecture to be used for the Genesis brand and there is very little resemblance from Hyundai in Genesis vehicles. Kia is bit of an oddball in using some parts from both, but Kia has always been "the sporty" part of Hyundai motor group GM has the same issues as Nissan with Chevy and the two "premium brands" GMC and Buick, but all 3 sell enough so its not an issue (also Buick is a Chinese best seller so the brand will never die). Caddy is in its own league though and is appropriately luxury in comparison to the rest.
@PRNTestDrive
@PRNTestDrive 4 жыл бұрын
I still feel Infiniti needs to die too, there's nothing this QX50 couldn't do as a Pathfinder/Rogue at the top-end trim. I'm glad Mazda is smart and offers their Signature trim as the top of their vehicle lineup and not as a separate brand, example: Eunos. Infiniti should go the same way, figure out where this vehicle can fit in their lineup along with the Q50 and then end it all.

@@PRNTestDrive All the chrysler brands do this too. Honestly in 2020 there is 0 reason for most luxury brands to exist. The only brands that should exist are Lincoln, Caddy and Audi, and thats simply because how their Ford, Chevy and VW counterparts respectively are just so cheaply made and designed
