They were sensational composers and performers. I always smile when I listen to their joyful music.

Thank you so much for posting this, sir! Amazing to see this stuff. It isn't every day that you got Mr. Perrey on television. (I feel extremely lucky to have seen you two live). I know you've got one of Perrey's Ondiolines, too...

Perrey and Kingsley performed on the local NY children's show Wonderama in the '60s. That's when I first saw them.

@ Klarnis, The song at the introduction as called PLINK, PLANK, PLUNK. It was used as the theme song of I've Got a Secret during the 1950's until 1962 or1963.

Video fundamental para quem gosta de musica eletronica. Tudo que veio depois foi em razão do trabalho deles e do brilhante trabalho de jenny ao criar o ondiolino. Obrigado internet por propiciar a abertura de tanto conhecimento!

In a game show related matter, Perrey-Kingsley's "The Savers" was used for the theme for "The Joker's Wild".

Why have I never heard of them before? I'm all into electronic music. I came here because one of their songs (Strangers in the Night) came on Pandora.

@Vanopelli I think it's a reflection of their talent. It's not that the sounds themselves are so convincing - it's that Perry plays them so well.

@happymoogman It's a Clavinet I or II, the brown wooden ones that predate the white/red C model. They did indeed exist then, invented by German Ernst Zacharias for Hohner.

Hi Ike, I believe is was some kind of RMI clavinet. This was 1966. I don't think the Hohners came out until later.

Is that an early Clavinet, model C that Kingsley is playing? In 1968 I used to stack one on top of my B-3, pre-ELP.

That's absolutely brilliant! It sounds like he multiple sounds mapped to one of the Ondiolines to create the percussion, but how does it continue throughout the song? I've got to find out more about this!
@JonasClark
@JonasClark 8 жыл бұрын
The duet with Kingsley is them pretending to play to a recording. The song, "Spooks In Space," uses a mix of several instruments, and the sound effect loops are from hand-spliced tapes made by Perrey. Everything else on both shows is him actually playing the Ondioline.
@OskarEnghoff
@OskarEnghoff 14 жыл бұрын
Is Perrey simply trying to make it look like he's playing the weird animal sounds on the Ondioline on his right? The sounds are still there when he's not touching it, and at one point it seems that he's 'playing' the sweeping whistle sounds by running his finger up and down the casing... ?
@JonasClark
@JonasClark 8 жыл бұрын
You're correct. All the other playing in both this episode and the other is live, real Ondioline music. But "Spooks In Space," on the other show, uses Ondioline, Clavinet, and spliced tape loops, and couldn't really be performed live, so they mimed along to it.

It's a fantastic video, but I think the musicians' thoughts are not unlike Alan Brady's reaction to Laura Petrie's outing of his baldness on the Dick Van Dyke Show. "There's the little instrument (lady) that put us out of business!"
