I liked this song sung by Richard Chamberlain in the sixties, and never figured it was this old. But is is a nice song, one of those that are really worth to listen.

My grandfather sang this to me and the other grandkids. He made it sound sad, and I've always taken it as such. But he was never a sad man. He would be 100 this year. He made 83.

My mom sang it sad also. I love Perry, but I think this song was meant to be sung sad

Try looking for the one with Leslie Caron. Or maybe the movie.@@phyllisgrellman4741

@@phyllisgrellman4741 It's entirely a wistful and melancholic song, and that's why I love it. I always found it odd how it was passed off as a sweet and cute children's ditty. I guess it's the subversively dark nature of the original film whence it came.

Perry Como had such a beautiful voice and personality to match. And he was so darn handsome! Decades later I still have a crush on him.

Was there ever a more relaxed singer? Maybe Dean Martin. Check out my The Wonderful Perry Como--Sing To Me, Mr. C Fan Page on Facebook.

The perhaps even more relaxed Dinah Shore has my favorite version; she had the perfect voice for this song. This video is excellent.

I wish "Mr. C" had sung a cover of this solo, without the '50s glee chorus inappropriate schmaltzy oom-pah upbeat; as the mournful ballad its lyrics express, with his entrancing Impossible Dream romantic poignance and a basser voice. Only Nat King Cole and Pat Suzuki do justice to this song.

I'm a big fan of Perry Como, and 'love' this song, but am in agreement with much of what commenter "JudgeJulieLit" said below. If you like this song, I highly recommend Ricki Lee Jones's interpretation here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIqkhJJuqNiBock

They are the Fontane Sisters who accompanied Perry on records and on early TV shows in late 40s/early 50s.
