Ataturk was a hero... And his principles, still revered by most Turks, include: • Democracy • Secularism • Equality for women • Freedom of religion • Free public co-educational schools • “Peace at Home, Peace in the World” • No dreams of territorial expansion (despite the Ottoman Empire’s former greatness). He was the architect of the greatest war against imperialism, but unfortunately those who came after Atatürk, they betrayed him...

If Shah really took an example by Atatürk, maybe Iran would have been different today...
@DaDARKPass4 жыл бұрын
He did try, but the truth was that Britain would've not allowed it. If Iran say became democratic and decided that the oil in its land was its own then Britain would've prevented that completely.

Dude he found a "Republic" on a "Empire".There was no parties back in the day.He was a authoritarian leader but it was necessary for that time and people had no problems with it except radical islamists Ataturk fucked them good

Technically he was a dictator. But then again, how can you modernize a country who's sunk into religious bigotry, without dictating them what to do?

Interesting, is the puppet show symbolic?
@elisabethschmerzler9635 жыл бұрын
It's probably supposed to emphasize on the fact that Marjane is a young child and ignorant to the real history, so a puppet show, a form of entertainment that's main audience is children, can help teach the basics of the past in an understandable way for her that isn't complicated or confusing as a lecture would be. It also may be an easy way of teaching the audience, who may not know Iran's history as well given the film was made in France, so that they can understand events throughout the film and how the setting affects the characters without being confused by the complicated history.

DaDARKPass Oh of course! That’s important to remember, all that occurred in the play were real events, no matter the youthful setting it was put in.
@DaDARKPass4 жыл бұрын
@@elisabethschmerzler963 But it was true. Reza shah wanted to modernise Iran and make it a democracy, but the British feared that because of the oil company in there possibly being forced out and forced reza shah to well, become shah. However, he still did like his country and wasn't a complete puppet. His son though was just a puppet.
@elisabethschmerzler9634 жыл бұрын
DaDARKPass Yeah I know, it’s literally what occurs in the movie and in the graphic novel (although I don’t remember if they use a puppet in it). But I never thought of it representing how the Shah was a puppet
