i just figured it would be easier to show and talk about it then type it all out.
This video was suppose to be a private reply, but several had suggested the same thing so i just unlocked it and made it public.

I still think the Perseus needs to grow to at least another 10 meters. I also still think large military ships and explorers should all have on board medical. It makes zero sense to not have one.

This comment is a response to both of your perseus videos. Swap the location of the bottom turret and the cargo bay. Moving that bottom turret forward gives it better visibility in all directions as in front the hull slopes up and away meaning it can actually converge with the top turret, while towards the back the engines are farther away meaning the the angle that the turret can aim at to get around them would be better as well. By moving the cargo bay to the back you also open up the ability to swap the elevator for a ramp and make it easier to park snub craft inside. It would take some redesigning, but so far as I know the ship is currently not in development so it would hardly be any work at all compared to redesigning it when it's finished and players realize how awful the current layout is. I also like the idea of making the turrets more akin to the Javelin turrets with additional smaller guns to defend against torpedoes, it keeps the crew size small but fixes the ship's massive weakness. As far as the guns being bespoke, I actually don't mind this. It fits the role of the ship much better as it is intended to fight larger military ships which presumably have thick/heavy armour. The guns firing balistic armour penetrating rounds is exactly what I would like to see, though, being able to swap out the ammo type would also be cool and practical, for instance loading proximity explosive C-788 type ammo would make it far more effective against smaller craft. I don't think this ship will get a large spine mounted weapon, that encroaches on the territory of the Idris too much and the ship would have too much firepower. Piloting a ship like this certainty is not boring, anyone who has flown a fully crewed Hammerhead will tell you how hard it is to keep position for your gunners to stay on target. That being said I do think that upping the size of the missiles/torpedoes to no more than size 6 makes sense, it doesn't encroach on the Polaris and it gives another threat worth thinking about when facing against this ship while not making it too overpowered. Let's keep in mind that this ship is primarily meant to be a self-sufficient patrol craft, creating such a glaring weakness to torpedoes does not "balance the ship" it makes it useless. The smaller point defence guns solve this issue and don't directly increase the power of this ship against other large ships since ideally you would play to your range advantage far beyond the capabilities of those small guns anyway.

Thanks for your time, to show the sight line angles of the bottom turret. Those of us that pledged for the Perseus, never have seen them from CIG. Nice work. I am also hoping those long armored flaps on the main thrusters are to vent heat, something like the Terrapin does and won't be in the way, by being closed during combat.

They should have put them both on the top, it's space, you can simply flip the ship itself, i mean you also have a size 3 turret, put it on the bottom

Broadside is obviously how this ship is meant to work. You would not go “head toward” a javelin or even a Hammerhead. The strength in this would lie in the stand-off range of the large guns. If it’s the same as an Ares Ion it’s 8km. You circle the target after you are in range with those guns. Also in a circular pattern around a target, missiles/torpedoes have a longer range to get to you and are most likely then in the rear quarter trying to catch up. This gives your AA the most time to shoot them down. The design is very deliberate in my mind.

I kind of like the bottom turret back and not placed in the similar position as the top guns. Breaks up symmetry, but at the same time gives it a bit more of a dynamic change to combat.

@@TheAngriestGamer. Could you do something with a super firing turret design instead of having the keel turret. (mounting it at the upward section where it leads to the bridge to allow it to fire over the primary turret, extending it further forward to make it sit just below the bridge glass but shoot over the forward turret). This would not only be more cinematic for those on the bridge, but allow the turrets to converge their targets easier as well. It also prevents the issue of being stuck in the keel turret with nothing to do while the top turret engages the targets. I feel the keel turret is a terrible design as it's main point is to potentially cover the rear, but the rear arcs are horrendous because of the engine nacelles. So why not move it into a super firing turret design instead. Replace the current keel turret with a quad AA or just another AA mount to cover the lower section. Or as you said use that space to make a snub bay that connects to the cargo deck instead. As removal of the turret would give them the space to do it. This could also allow for the centralization of ammunition stores for the twin turrets being right next to each other allowing for quicker re-arm and resupply of the turrets. Considering the turrets are meant to have several different ammunition types, flak/laser etc that it fires from the guns it makes sense to centralise your ammunition stores as they're not going to be firing one type of ammo exclusively.

I believe the bottom turret retracts back into the hull when not in use and/or when landing the ship

I honestly think they have multiple better options of what they could do. They could change the front top turret to simply be even larger size guns than it is now to roughly equal the DPS output of 4 X size 7 guns from the 2 turrets, so it's merely that main top turret for line of sight main guns, and replace that lower capital turret with instead like a large quad gun turret or something for further fighter screening. Option 2 is instead of turrets for the capital guns, fix the 4 size 7 guns on the front of the ship top and bottom as pilot controlled alongside the torpedo tubes so the perseus' capital ship fire changes into more of the front facing hit and run styling like it's shaped to do where it can be paired along side the polaris which gives those 2 RSI capital ships unique playstyles to set them apart from the idris and javelin and other such capital ships that end up in the game. The turret spots top and bottom can be replaced with manned big quad gun turrets slapped with size 4 repeaters for to act as the main fighter screening, where some of the other smaller turrets could be swapped to missile turrets for the smaller missile size weapons on the perseus. This would be a more sensible layout that fits more in line with RSI ship designs and makes it fit well alongside the Polaris as hit and run / front facing firepower capital ships that become the RSI capital ship playstyle.

looking at cig history this ship will most definitly grow in size (+ - 20 meters) which means that will free up place at the nose of the ship for the turret if they decide to move it

Tnx a lot for taking the time to made a video reply, and yes, the video become popular due to touching a very important point about the perseus, Now, about the video, yes the turret base would spill over, but they could just made that foward line wider, or flatter so it contacts the entire hull, then moving the M. Thrusters a bit more to the sides, then it would fit and honestly looks pretty cool with both turrets foward lol And because of the hull shape, the bottom turret can have a nice upward angle, so the ship can fight nose on/angled nose on, using all of the most powerfull trusters Also now broadside could also be done with both turrets, even angled "disengagements" with both turrets on target With the current configuration, it seems that only 1 turret will be used most of the time, if you look, its kinda similar to the cat bottom turret, but the cat has better view due to the thin long body Oh and dont mind spectrum forums, its pure acid down there 😂

As someone who loves the Perseus, your videos have been spot on. The look, lore and idea of the ship are cool, but I don't think it will be a good ship. It definitely won't be worth it's current cost. I would love to see some kind of interesting secondary function. The Polaris for $75 more just gives too much extra with hangar, brig, med bay, etc. Thank you for your time on these.

yeah im not super hopeful either, but i appreciate ya taking the time to drop a comment. something some have suggested here is instead of a snub hanger in the back of the Perseus, was maybe add a interdicter module to snare larger capital ships. i thought that idea was kinda neat and agreed its kinda weird that capitals can be grabbed by a simple mantis or cutty blue. i dont think they should beable to be pinned down by ships THAT small. but at the end of the day im not a CIG dev or in a position to make changes to these ships sadly.

If I was redesigning that turret, it would be on the top behind the pilot so it could be used for artillery. With no large turret on the bottom only AA on the belly.

Hopefully the turrets extend just slightly out of their housing to give just a little bit better coverage. The redeemers guns do this when you get into them.

Good video I'm not sure that ship can shoot another ship in front of him with his two main turrets at the same time. The enemy ship will have to be perfectly align and it will almost never happen. For defending against torpedoes. Maybe this ship will have almost infinite counter measures. I think It would help a lot

I beleve that the turret on the bottom is in a recessed position. Similar to the Redeemer turrets. (Though that is a speculative observation)

I'm not 100% sure, but i suspect that the guns and not the turret elevate and depress, so it may be possible for the guns to fire straight down. Somewhat similar to what we've seen on the IAE javelin tour.

Love the Perseus! I understand a lot of the conversations devs have are about how to make the interior fit - which results in resizing the ship - would you consider doing a video giving your take on how the interior should be laid out? Not only the Perseus, Galaxy and Orion and BMM as well...

To be honest, I was thinking the reverse. I thought the dorsal turret should be moved back so its above the ventral turret. Maybe even switch the bridge and the dorsal turret's locations. My thinking was that it would allow both turrets to point at any target on their hemisphere and even unleash a "broadside" in any direction (if you have a good pilot). There are probably many reasons why you wouldn't do this, it's just the first thought I had when looking at this in your other video.

you mean in game or with the model i showed off. cuz the model i showed off is a simple hard model for 3d printing. i didn't rig any joints for animating separate parts. i imagine the one in game when CIG releases it will be like the Javelins turret with a +45 Deg elevation and maybe a -6 to -9 deg depression if were lucky. it will require team work on the pilot and gunners to keep a near perfect broadside so the gunners can do their thing.

Theoretically you could move the turret room in front of the cargo area by swapping their locations, but that's about it. Do you actually gain anything from it? Not a whole lot. Aesthetic choice at that point. Also, it would allow a rear ramp to be made for cargo and vehicles if you wanted it.

Quality stuff right here, I really enjoyed in the first video too. Moving that gun forward would take a structural rework and moving the cargo bay back. As long as the guns can turn left or right I dont care all that much. One thing though, on the flatish surfaces of the ship, what would you say about putting some retractable point defense guns maybe some size 2s or 3s just to shoot down missiles.

I've been thinking for awhile about what I might get and I've been leaning heavily towards the Perseus. I'm ok with the turret placement, myself. I think it was deliberate, not just an accident because of where other things already wound up.

Don't forget that it might deploy and get lowered a bit more giving it better forward firing solutions just like the the conie turrets originally wut change wen deployed vs wen ther not used

Yeah, i see the problem with moving the turret forward to give it a better firing solution to the front. Would be even more work for them to redesign it in a way to make that work, and as much as i would love it its most likely not gonna happen. Thanks for taking the time to visually show us. it doesnt deploy. and i didnt animate the barrels. i just grabbed the whole turret itself and tilted it which is not how it will work. dont read to much into how that was moving in the video. it was just for demonstration.

@@TheAngriestGamer. Sorry I didn't explain my meaning. The lower turret folds into the ship so it is able to land correctly and then it deploys when manned. Just wondering on how far out it deploys. Thanks for replying :)

All the arising issue with moving the turret are all non issues. Why? Because it´s a concept. The ship hasn´t been built yet so these changes can all be easily achieved.

that ship model is from CIG. Sure it can change, but given that Chris Roberts has a specific image in mind when he starts these ships I doubt it will change too much from its concept. The Perseus is a nice looking ship, but it needs changes badly in order for it to be worth it. I just hope those changes are realized before it enters development so they don't anger every person that bought it. Cause if they don't make necessary changes the Polaris will just be so much better at everything. 28 size 10 torps and 32 size 2 missiles with 5 size 4 twin turrets and 1 size 5 twin turrets that can be customized. Id prefer that over 2 size 7 twin turrets and 2 size 3 turrets that can't be customized. another thing is too is that the Polaris has a hangar and a medical facility.

​@@NomadHorizonAnd? The Hammerhead is almost as much as the Polaris as well. The Perseus has substantially more firepower than the Hammerhead does. All you people thinking DPS will be a thing. Ship health pools will not exist in a year. If a gun is unable to damage the armor it won't damage it.
