Episode 32 of Love At First Scent
This was a KZbin Live broadcast streamed on Sunday 19th May 2019. Unscripted. Unedited. Unrehearsed.
[Technology gremlins again! Unfortunately, there was a problem with uploading this video permanently to KZbin which seems to have resulted in the loss of all the 'live' chat from viewers. Very sorry about that, but I don't seem to be able to do anything about it. I suppose there's a chance the live chat option might pop up again at some point.]
In this episode, I covered:
- Musc Shamal from Armani Prive (at the start of the video)
- L'Homme Ideal Cool from Guerlain (at the 15:00 minute mark)
- Blu Mediterraneo Cipresso Di Toscana from Acqua Di Parma (at the 31:00 minute mark)
- Night Train from Wide Society (at the 50:30 minute mark)
- Up In The Air from Wide Society (at the 57:00 minute mark)
and the classic choice was
- Hiris from Hermes (at the 41:30 minute mark)
--
Here's the blotter update...
- The Armani has become significantly sweeter, but it remains interesting; the contrast between hot and cold is going strong. I sprayed some on skin and, as expected, the seams between the two elements became much harder to discern.
- L'Homme Ideal Cool has turned into a juvenile, pretty uninvolving rendition of the original L'Homme Ideal idea.
- The Acqua Di Parma is now more dry-powdery (almost chalky, rather than baby powder talc-like) and still very elegant and refined.
- Night Train is still firmly in 80s chypre territory, perhaps closer to the likes of Aromatics Elixir than it was at the start. Classy stuff.
- Up In The Air has lost some of its more intriguing elements (that boozy danger!) but the saffron-leathery drydown is appealing.
- Hiris has gone very quiet, but it absolutely hasn't disappeared. Serenely meditative.
Thanks again for watching!
[Samples provided by the respective brands, except for the Hermes, which is from my personal collection.]

What a breath of fresh air your videos are---or a breath of fragrant air. I would so love to see a fragrance collection video one of these days. That would certainly smash all fragrance review video records. Smash them.

That's so kind, thank you. But a collection video... oh dear! Some things are better left hidden :-D

What a lovely hour to spend with you. I'm very keen to try the Armani when it is liberated from it's exclusivity. The La Myrrhe comparison pulled my ears up. I make a bit of sport of finding new old stock perfume (I'm wearing short-ingredients Egoiste now!) and perfectly aware of that feeling of finding treasure. Hiris is a strange one and took a long for me to love. I have a cobalt bottle too and wear it before bed. And if I haven't ranted long enough, Iris Silver Mist was my first Lutens and probably the One bottle I'd save in a crisis.

Eric Brandon You haven’t ranted at all! Thanks very much for the lovely message and the kind words. Let me know what you make of the Armani if you ever get a chance to try it. And yes: finding hidden treasure is always a thrill!

I have a soft spot for Blu Mediterraneo fragrances, there's such a charming, elegant simplicity to them, so refreshing and uplifting, they always put me in a good mood. I think I like every one of them, and Fico di Amalfi is one of my favourite summer scents.

Yes, absolutely. Simple without being simplistic. Invariably a pleasure to wear. Thanks so much for watching.

You are the only KZbinr with Musk Shamal review and glad to see your thoughts on it after owning it. I have a sample and think I will pull trigger.

"maybe the ideal man is cryogenically frozen" 😂 And that ad photo is definitely ham off the bone!! All he needs is a twinkle graphic on the side of his mouth to complete the cheesey campaign!

Ha! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that :-D Yes: 'cool' and 'cheesy' aren't quite the same thing, are they.

Odd that they would discontinue the L’Homme Ideal Cologne when it was so much better received than the Sport.

I think we can be almost 100% sure that any discontinuation would have been caused by poor sales.

Persolaise, how did Musc Shamal perform? I've read a few reviews and it's being said that it fades away after just a few hours.

WeeziePop Thanks very much for watching. I have to say that I don’t often think of perfumes in terms of ‘performance’: I like to judge their projection and tenacity in light of what I think the perfumers’ intention might have been. I think the Armani moved ‘down’ to skin level fairly quickly, but it was definitely present for quite some time.

Can you share with us the name of the shop in Venice? I’ll be in Venice in a few months and would love to visit.
