Thank you for this! Spring is always rose time for me, I was fiercely loyal to my Paris for many years. Nowadays Mona di Orio Rose Etoile d'Hollande is my go-to rose, it's a crystal-cut type of rose if that makes any sense. Perfectly balanced and heartbreakingly beautiful. The second is probably Frapin's gothic beauty Nevermore and Rosine's Rose d'Homme is a close third. I also love the plummy-jammy quality of SL Rose de Nuit and the happy and proudly fuchsia-hued La Rose de Rosine. It was delightful, as always, watching Your video.

I only recently found your channel and I love your videos and style of delivery. One of the best recent rose scent discoveries for me is Rose Omyyade by Atelier des Ors. Ahh, missed it! This was during my work hours. Such is life. 😊. I’ve always loved rose, but I’m branching away from my typical rose loves. My favorite was from a decant, and I think it had a different name before. It’s now called Un Air d’Arabie Rose of Taif from Maison Dorin. I’ve met Andy Taur twice while he was visiting San Francisco. He comes here quite often. He’s such a nice person! The perfume store Tigerlily has a few of his perfumes on stock, but when he comes, he brings more to purchase. The last time I saw him, I selected...crazy name like cosy sweater weather, or something (I’m not home). Also Vanilla Flash, which is very dry and spicy.

New to your channel. And, new to Tauer fragrances! I am looking to add more rose-centric fragrances to my collection, and I appreciate your detailed input and commentary, e.g, the idea of a "carefree, youthful" rose". In addition to loving perfumes, I am also a passionate garden, and increasingly I am building my garden around fragrance. My garden has many, many roses. However, it is a garden of pink and pale yellow roses with lemony and tea scents - not deep, red roses. To me, roses have such different scents and personalities, and I think the same about rose perfumes.

Great list, such amazing fragrances! Especially Nahema and Mohur. Tauer's roses are stunning, too. But I cannot wear them, they become so overpowering on my skin. I love rose fragrances. It is a very common note in perfumery - but roses make everything better. My 10 favourite roses are "Sa Majeste La Rose" (Lutens), "Rrose Selavy" (Maria Candida Gentile), "Brulure de Rose" and "Isparta" (PG), "Rose Poivree" (The Different Company), "Voleur de Roses" (L'Artisan), "Poussiere de Rose" (Les Parfums de Rosine), "Dirty Rose" (PK Perfumes), "Smolderose" (January Scent Project) and "Tobacco Rose" (Papillon).

Catching this MUCH later. Hello from New Zealand 🙌 I am currently nuts about roses after avoiding them for years. Something has just clicked this year and florals (particularly white florals, heliotrope and roses) now totally ring my bell 🤣. My current favourite is Calligraphy Rose (Aramis). I’m very partial to take-no-prisoners rose fragrances (heavy on woods/spices/resins, musk, amber) and have embraced online scent splitting. Some I’m getting to know are Rose Omeyyade, Porpora, Rose Oud (Nicolai Parfumeur) and the Maison Lancôme roses…. Very interested to try Amouage Lyric (both). I’m on the hunt for the ultimate black rose fragrant - inky, complex, deep, challenging but simultaneously velvety 😁 not asking for much. Loved listening to this while working from home (still). It’s winter here and I’ve recently taken up growing roses - right now longing for their return in spring. All must be scented to earn their space ❤️. Thank you so much.

Hello Dariush, I absolutely want to try Nahema now! And one day maybe the Hermessence one as well as the Lutens. I love an on sale discovery I made by chance in the pharmacy of Gare Montparnasse, the discontinued Joyeuses Fêtes by L'Occitane. As you said simple is difficult and I have grown very fond of it. It reminds me of my first perfume Chloé Eau de parfum which I now find not very refined maybe with a lot of strong soapiness. I like this naive aspect of the rose, when it is pale pink or yellow, it has its own sensuality. Associated with the peonies, raspberry and the pink pepper it reminds me of the snow suddenly (or maybe I was fooled by the marketing! But a nose is nose I am sure you would say). Two days ago I recognised Diva by Ungaro in a concert, I love the rose in it too (very different of course). And in Rive Gauche by YSL I love the "metallic" rose. And in For Her EdT and EdP, with the patchouli... Love it!

I rarely buy soliflores but I won't balk at wearing Nahema. Aside from that, I love rose-driven compositions like L'arte di Gucci, Parure, Amouage Epic, Mohur and Nombre Noir, Gold and Joy. @@Persolaise oh I do 😍 I could close my eyes and say straight away that this a Jean Claude Ellena's creation 😊 Really refined, devoid of unnecessary ornaments. He goes straight to the point with this casual chic elegance that you can find in Hermès fragrances. Even though he doesn't see himself as a minimalist this is what I get from his creations. In that sense, it has a lot in common with japanese culture. I completely agree with your point of view 😉

Your top 10 are all my favourites - I love the Rossy de Palma and Rose Tonnere (I suppose it's the same stuff as Une Rose, which I did try eons ago, but can't remember well enough to compare them). A rare Tom Ford I adore is Noir de Noir. Does Égoïste count as rose? I know it's more rosewood... on the SL front, I prefer Rose de Nuit and La Fille de Berlin. Hi Mr. P, Sujata here. Rose perfumes are indeed some of my favorites. In 1999, I was strolling through a Neiman Marcus in Washington, DC (really just passing through!) with my newborn baby daughter and a perfume counter lady stopped me and asked if I wanted to try the brand new Annick Goutal - Ce Soir Ou Jamais. I thought, what a great name for a perfume, and it smelled absolutely divine to me but at that time my young family couldn't spare the coin to get me such a luxury perfume. Years, even decades later, by which time Ce Soir Ou Jamais had earned the dreaded "old lady perfume" tag or something close, I had the coin at last and happily bought myself a bottle. I love the scent still - it's not that complex but I think it's a rose purist classic! By the way Mr. P - have you done a Top Ten Sandalwood perfumes video? I didn't see one in your line up but I know I for one would absolutely love that!

@@Persolaise You're welcome! I find your videos are informative and I enjoy how you show appreciation for the classics. I find they generally smell better on the dry-down phase, they radiate nicely with the base notes. I know that people my age would probably go for younger fragrances, but I find classic perfumes like Shalimar and L'air du Temps work the best on me, and I feel that wearing them continues a family tradition (L'air du Temps is my mom's favorite, Shalimar my late grandmother's). I will pick in an old movie I studied a long time ago, a classic with Jean Gabin and Arletty : Le Jour se lève by Marcel Carné. The "réalisme poétique" of the films of that time is a movement I love, almost romanticizing sometimes really social themes, and set in such an interesting time in history. I believe it was made before WW2. Also with Jean Gabin and the beautiful Michelle Morgan is Quai des Brumes with the most famous line : "T'as d'beaux yeux, tu sais."

Hello Monsieur Persolaise! Thank you for this wonderful video - Rose is likely one of my favorite notes in perfume. I have a question in relation to Guerlain’s Nahema: there is an opinion that, supposedly, it does not have any Rose essence, but rather it’s “rosey” scent is the result or effect of the blend used. Would you agree?

David, many thanks to you for watching. Yes, there are a few mysteries around Nahema. I think the best thing for me to do is to allow a certain someone to answer your question... persolaise.com/2013/11/nahema-is-weapon-of-mass-destruction.html

I have been looking for a rose perfume for some time. I'd like something less dark than Portrait of a Lady, less overpowering and less "hippie" than Une Rose Chypree, less gourmand than Une Rose Vermeille, not spicy or Oriental (so Nahema is out). No (or almost no) oud, please, as rose-saffron/patchouli-oud has become such a clicheed combination. I'd like a realistic, natural and rather simple construction. But not a soliflore like Hiram Greene's Lustre, which otherwise is just a miraculous rose. And I don't want it dramatic - which rules out Une Rose (why on earth was that brutal geranium opening necessary?) And YSL Paris is out of the question in any formulation, because that is a perfume even I would say is definitely feminine. Anything as "insanely expensive" as Rose Ikebana is out as well. So after having tried perfume after perfume, if an evil antagonist were to force me tonight to choose a single rose perfume which I'd have to stick with for the rest of the decade, it would be Papillon's Tobacco Rose. That is an uncomplicated, rather linear, wonderfully smelling almost-soliflore, fresh, soft with close sillage, a little soapiness, but hanging on for a long time. If you don't know it, it's well worth your while. It's a creation of Liz Moores' after all. If you have any other suggestions that you could make to me, I'd be grateful. A tiny little bit of non-churchy incense would be nice. (But not Tauer's Incense Rose, which I find grating.)
