So enjoying this. Such an interesting way to explore a top ten list + fun to see friends listening as well. So excited to hear ERIS’ Night Flower on this list. My favorite by them but agree all are just so, so good. When I think about fall, classic + dependable/ unwavering I also think about scents like Coromandel, Sycomore, Tam Dao, Bottega Veneta, Désert Fleur, my favorite patchouli (Bohemian Reves), Musc Ravageur, Guerlain’s L’Heure Bleue + Vetiver, Byzantine (Sucreabeille), Conjure + Witch’s Cottage (both Solstice Scents), Obsession, Paloma Picasso, Halston… oh where would this list stop? Enjoying all your mentions and the listener’s reminder re: Aromatics Elixir.

I can't believe the chat went quiet when Afternoon of a Faun was mentioned. I think it's one of their best offerings, along with Rien (and Intense) which also smells contemporary-retro. As for the theme, I like a hint of cheekiness in towering seriousness, so my pick would be: 2 Man (The brand even describe it as "A man who loves his work"), Bois des Îles, Invasion Barbare, and Muscs Koublai Khan.

During warm sunny (pre-)autumn days I have been pretty obsessed with Nahema. I think the late 70s connection makes me think of that time period of music which fits my fall perspective. The fragrance reminds me of the warmth and romantic qualities of late 70s synthesizer heavy progressive rock. And that music for me is a reliable constant in my universe. Plus hitting up Shalimar more, it's perfect to think of falling leaves, the woods, flannel, and sitting in front of a fire. It's perfect for a rustic autumn vibe. The most reliable smelling to me. I think it's because it reminds me of my late grandmother, who was reliable and dependable.
@Persolaise2 жыл бұрын
That’s quite a list, thank you. You can’t go wrong with Nahema.

I've missed the live once again! I'd like to share my autumn perfumes, anyway: "Passage d'enfer" (nice, pensive, a little cold but relaxing), "L'heure bleue" (stilllness and tranquillity in a bottle, plus a little bit of nostalgia that always goes with this season), "Feminité du bois" (I still havn't got the chance of smelling "iris silver mist" and I know I'd love it!), chergui maybe, "Cuir d'ange" (I've longed so much for this 15 ml bottle!), "N19 poudré", "N5 eau première" (to lift morale once in while) and "Herman(...)" from ELDO (I read on your blog you don't like this one, but I find it interesting and perfect for the autumnal weather) +1: "Acqua di colonia Città di Kyoto", Santa Maria Novella, a woody and iris, cold and pensive fragrance .

ELdO was never on my radar until watching enough of your positive reviews. They're now one of the houses I have the most of. This pushed me over the edge on Afternoon of a Faun, and after finding a great deal on it, went ahead and made a blind buy. Love it! Being a ballet student makes it all the more enjoyable. One of my most worn scents since picking it up, this and Fougere Bengal have brought me around to immortelle, but then I love curry anyway. TBH it gives me hay and tobacco vibes more than anything.

I finally got to sample Oriental Velours. It is definitely one of the most unique blends I’ve ever smelled. That green note is 100% spruce. I have spruce trees on my property and live in upstate new york where there are tons and tons of spruce trees. And this note smells exactly like crushing spruce needles in my hand. I also love how vetiver is used in Velours. I don’t love super forward vetivers and prefer when it is subtle and smoky in the base. This nails that. I’m not getting much jasmine or florals on me yet, so I am curious how it sprays from the actual bottle. I absolutely love the opening, and I think I get some jasmine then, but I need more juice to tell. I also love how ethereal the vanilla is expressed in this. That unique spruce seems to cut through the myrrh and vanilla the longer it sits on me, and then all of a sudden I get a whiff of resinous vanilla out of nowhere. I walked by my wife last night and she said it I smelled like a bourbon milk punch with vanilla. 🤷♂️ I have another decant of it coming now, because I need to try and bomb myself with this before I buy a bottle. Because I am leaning towards getting one. 😊

Parfum de Therèse is THE masterpiece by Edmond Roudnitska. It was too modern for its time when it was created and it kept evolving and being perfectionized over a period of more than 30 years. Michel Roudnitska says that it contains all aspects of the perfumes his father so successfully developed. I am of course just quoting him when I write all this. Also Edmond Roudnitska tried to commercialize it many times. It was offered to Ungaro, Dior, Ferré and Guy Laroche. In the end it always got refused. Until Frederic Malle asked for it (thank God really!) And isn't it amazing that in the same video you are mentioning a ballet that was also created by an artist who was too avant garde for his time and suffered quite terrible consequences.I have to smell that Faune! The other Faune I want to get my nose on is the one by Jacques Guerlain who personally knew the amazing dancer and choreographer! And I am as convinced as I can possibly be without any more detailed information about the matter, that he saw the first performance of the work. I have no idea if I will ever get a chance to smell the perfume though....

Every time I smell the exclusive collection of Chanel, I’m amazed by the quality of their raw materials. This autumn, I would love to tame Le Lion since I find this fragrance to be fabulous but like it less on my skin. Otherwise, I will probably wear the usual suspects. The world is unstable enough, I need some stability. So probably, Vanille Mona di Orio (my all-year go-to scent), Angélique Noire Guerlain (to go back to the beginning of my love affair with the house and when life seemed to be easier), Iris Ganache Guerlain…and hopefully Shalimar Millésime Tonka. Probably some Oriza L. Legrand (Rêve d'Ossian, Le Régent...) as well since I really love that brand. I also hope to make new acquaintances. By the way, I smelled Chanel’s Sycomore extrait a few days ago…and oh wow! It’s so beautiful! I never wear vetiver scents but I often find them beautiful. And they give such a great feeling of comfort, stability, security. They help becoming rooted (if you can say that). What I love about vetiver is also the contrast between light and darkness. Its scent is rich, dark, rooty, and citrusy, sparkling, luminescent at the same time. Like a bridge between earth and sky, celestial and terrestrial places! It's profound and sumptuous! Love it!
