I’m not sure if anyone commented about the reference of Malaquais, but it is where the Dries van Noten store in Paris is. It is also the name of the store (the one in Antwerp is Het Modepaleis). Thank you for the reviews!

I never clicked play so fast, haha! I tried the sample set and was really disappointed by them, too much reliance on all too familiar "designer" smelling aroma chemicals, I hoped for more from Dries.

Happy to report that Dune is not discontinued as far as I can see. It is still available on both the US and French websites.

Listening to your Dries Van Noten perfumes review, I was thinking that some accords you mention make me think of the new Le Potager line from L’Artisan Parfumeur. The Pea-iris accord for Iris de Gris i.e. compared to the minty-iris opening of the Dries Van Noten scent. Since they are from the same group, who knows if they did not influence each other. As for the former Malle co-creation, I have to say that I struggled a lot with the burned plastic-caramel-vanillic note. I couldn’t get passed it. Same as for L’Heure Perdue which also had that plastic vanilla note I dislike. I had to laugh when you mentioned Carnivorous Rose. Indeed I would probably imagine a metallic strong, fleshy and acid rose rather than a polite one. But many names are wrongly chosen. They often make big promises and don’t deliver. Or the marketing team and I just have a completely different understanding of the signification of the words. ;-) The osmanthus scent sounds interesting! Indeed most perfumes featuring that note smell quite cheap/artificial. It often reminds me of a Peach+abricot fruit yoghurt maybe rubbed on a fake leather glove. Not my cup of tea. ;-) I will check out the whole line.

Thanks for writing, Suleika. Yes, osmanthus is a tricky note.

Persolaise, I always miss the live video. Anyway, watching a recording is just as good. I am interested in trying Neon Garden by Dries Van Noten. I like mint & iris in fragrances.

With the first smell i liked most of the Dries Van Noten perfumes....after smelling them a couple times i think they are okay but not worth the high price. Rock The Myrhh i like the most together with Fleur Du Mal

Yes, they’re not especially inspiring.

I get the peach 🍑 too in the opening. The dry down is dusty cocoa and shaved chestnut. Love the bottle.

Love your writing and have been a long-time watcher-listener to Love at First Scent. My parents love lily of the valley so I sort of grew up with it. You likely already know this, but one common pitfall is planting it in a place that is too well-drained. It loves to be at the nadir of gravity in a garden (hence the name, of course), where water settles. Planting at the bottom of a semi-shaded slope in October/November should give good results. Otherwise, a well-watered planter pot under a tree can also work. Just make sure it's not in a spot where water will drain away from the bulb. The opposite of grapes or olives. Thanks for your work, love what you do for fragrance and for the underappreciated genre of writing on scent.

Michael, thank you so much for this. Actually, I didn’t know about the drainage issue. Or if I did, I’d forgotten. Makes total sense in relation to ‘valley’, as you say. Thank you! Definitely something to bear in mind for next year. Thanks also for your very kind words about my work.

So does any of those Dries Van Noten line can replace the amazing and criminally underrated and discontinued Dries Van Noten par Frederic Malle?
@Persolaise2 жыл бұрын
I would say No.
@vetiwearerdaimyo15922 жыл бұрын
@@Persolaise I knew it, goddammit. I just can't understand why they had to discontinue my favorite Frederic Malle fragrance, couldn't they just change the name e.g. DVN or whatever. Keep the scent and change the name Frederic Malle. We should start a petition.

I agree with you. None of those perfumes are revolutionary. I bought Soie Malaquais in full bottle. It is a nice and really comforting fragrance. More unisex feminine than unisex. I am lucky enough to live in Paris so I did not have to pay huge tax and transportation. I bought my perfume at the Bon Marché. If I had lived abroad, I probably would have reconsidered my purchase. I have samples of Cannabis Patchouli, Neon Garden, Rock the Myrrh and Fleur du Mal. Enjoyed most those fragrances (except Cannabis Patchouli because of the strong cannabis smell) but they are not revolutionary.

I have tried several of the DVN perfumes from a sample set I purchased with my recent DVN 💄order and also got two free samples... I can't agree with you more, the fragrances are very pleasant but not special or avant-garde as one would expect from the brand. The only one I really liked and am considering is Soie Maquais... both fragrance and bottle design, the 💄are very nice in formula and case design as well.
@Persolaise2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Gita. Yes, I think Soie is one of the better ones.

Wasn’t Soie Malaquais developed by Marie Salamagne? And Fleur de Mal by Quentin Bisch? I think you confused the two :D Soie Malaquais is my fav as well but to be honest I like all of the Malaquais range.
