@CATS Disagree. P3 is balanced around Tactics, not around Direct Control. Portable is a downgrade and there is no sensible reason to play it first over FES. I'm all for playing it after for the fun "what if?" of a female MC.

I started with 5 because my friend was absolutely obsessed with it and begged me to check out a let's play online (bc I don't have a PlayStation). After I got hooked, he had me watch a condensed version of the P4 anime. I think we started watching a season 3 LP before tons of stuff went down and we kinda stopped talking. I'm probably gonna check it out on my own since I don't think our friendship will rekindle, at least not to what it was before.

@CATS You can get that QoL change by emulating FES and using the Direct Control cheat. Even without it, Direct Control is FEMC isn't worth not getting FES's overworld, cutscenes, and the Answer.

I beat Persona 3 FES (Just the Journey so far, need to work on assessments before I go into the Answer) the other day, and damn was it a game I honestly almost cried during the credits (and hell, even this relisten to the credit music) after everything that happened in this game. I loved Persona 5's story, but Persona 3 dragged me in so much more I wonder if that's because of the death theming being something more physical, rather than thiefing

Definitely try P4. A lot of P3 fans didn't like it because it goes more for likeable, marketable characters than character development or serious plot. But compared to P5 its plot is still a step up, and P4 focuses the most on the Jungian influences of the series, which forces the writers to think about the psychology of the characters. As opposed to P5's shadow selves who are just "le bad guy" for the most part.

I feel like a lot of the cast fall into stereotypes in Persona 5. (Intentionally, to give them character and subvert them at key times) Persona 3 feels like... classmates, a family, you get to know everyone and they in turn get to know each other, and because of that they quickly grow on you. Arena even proves that several years after 3, and the events of 4, the SEES are still in touch with each other, having grown close to another. (I believe Mitsuru brings up what Junpei is up to, despite the fact that their relationship for a lot of the game was "You're not my mom!".)

P3FES. Also, not a fan of P4's dungeon mechanics, specifically the fact you can't truly sneak up on Shadows since they notice you if you step within a certain range of them, making it MUCH harder to backstrike them.

@@KuroShiiiiro Sept-Oct, yea, it's a slow start. And yea, the party control is hard, you can give them commands which really does help a lot. I believe it was done deliberately to show the autonomy of your friends, and the game was kind of balanced for that. Gaining full control of your teammates makes the game way too easy, I believe. If you're coming from playing P4 or P5, then maybe just give it a chance, try to power through and learn to accept it. It was the first game so it has many experimental things, and mistakes. From the new 3 games (with social links), I've seen most people debate whether P3 or P5 is the best, and P4 is kind of relegated to 3rd place. Should tell you that's worth it, even if it doesn't become your favorite.

Antonyo337 Persona 3 Portable has features like controllable party members, extra content and dialogue, despite it having little anime cutscenes and no 3d world environment, so it kinda feels like a visual novel. I still enjoyed the game even w/o the 3d world since the navigation is easier. Dungeons are still 3d tho

So,Persona 3 is a pretty dark game,but at the end,it's just to much for you to not cry,this game is beautiful in it's way,in terms of characters,songs,and story.Spoiler alert,don't read more if you don't want to spoil yourself about a lot of things of Persona 3 They tell you that you have 1 year until the end,but Minato only lived 11 months. Aigis technically completed his objective to protect Minato in the end,because she stayed with him until he died. The last thing door-kun heard in the movie was koromaru barking at him. Aigis will never spend another summer with Minato. In persona 3 portable you can save Shinjiro by doing his social link,but it won't really care,because he will eventually die because of his persona,but it will at least let him spend some more time with his friends. FEMC has a lover ending with Ken,*Ara Ara intensifies*. Minato is simply Jesus,he revives only to dance,fight with the persona 4 and 5 characters and to fight the persona 5 characters,he just wants to be a door,let his life alone Atlus. Also,Junpei,Aigis and Koromaru are the only characters to not have a lover ending,i understand Koromaru and Junpei,but come on Atlus,let Aigis be happy. Let the Door live again for Persona 6,or at least make him playable in Persona 5 Scramble:the phantom thieves.
