The more I see these games, the more I see Lovecraft influence. Besides the clear cases of Nyarlathotep (persona 2) and the Necronomicon (persona 5), persona 3 is very similar to the sailors from "the Call of Cthulhu." Both groups accidentally brought back a creature beyond human comprehension in a place that is physically impossible to comprehend.

Great recap. I have just gone through a persona binge myself, replaying 3-4-5 (now with Golden on Steam and Royal) and trying 1 and both 2s for the first time. And I just want to say I'm happy to see I am not the only one who uses hammers with the Protag after Shinji dies. All weapons need love, stop 1h sword privilege.

That's from the side story called the answer. It's kind of its own thing, so I didn't want to include it in the original storyline. I do have plans to talk about it somewhere down the line though.

Yeah that's how the game ends. You were originally left to draw your own conclusions, however with FES there is a sequel game called the answer where you definitively learn what happens to MC door

Okay, FES is canon, so I've always wondered what Junpei meant when he talked about Chidori. Like, did she canonically die? Or did she simply lose her memories and he had to move on? Personally, given the series general trend towards bittersweet over outright downer endings, and bc of how the P2 duology ended, I'm more inclined to believe it was the latter option since it would also tie into the game's theme of 'death'. I mean, sure, she could die in the literal sense, but I can appreciate the tragic irony of a 'death of personality' and the loss of relationships that come of it too. In a way, that is far more tragic a loss than someone ACTUALLY dying since, like with Maya and Tatsuya... that kind of death is way harder to deal with sometimes. If nothing else, I'm a sucker for the possibility of making things work out bc, well... I just want happier endings. Life is dark and sucks enough as it is....

I can't say I have (I've also only played Automata), but it could be interesting to do. Generally though when I do these hour long recaps I prefer to aim for older games that are a little harder to play due to lack of availability, so I'd be hesitant to do a Told Long of it.

P2 miracle bullshit ending: 'Timey wimey, universe splitting redo.... almost failed. Still could fail P3 miracle bullshit ending: MC pulls a Jesus and becomes a locked door. Currently being pounded on by a big ugly dog and Elizabeth, best girl, is trying to free him but keep the locked door. Also regularly engages in cosmic animal abuse by beating the crap out of said dog. P4 miracle bullshit ending: There wasn't one actually. They just.... beat a god who, just kind of quit at the end bc, why not? P5 miracle bullshit ending: Social media saved the day, kind of.... because, something, something... Phantom Thieves. Oh, and the whole mess with evil gods and shit was entirely humanity's fault... again, like in 3, but more directly this time. Also, like 2, said evil entity HEAVILY rigged the game in its favor but unlike in 2, got thoroughly trounced with a more definitive and conclusive smackdown bc, social media and the fact that said evil god was PURELY a product of the human psyche and thus was ultimately at the whims of the human psyche in a way no other final boss was as they exist outside of mortal comprehension despite being intrinsically linked to it. they 'are' the 'other side' while Yaldabaoth was just some podunk wannabe who wasn't quite ready to to join the big leagues of true divinity. Well, not this incarnation of Yaldabaoth anyway.... Anyway, Persona is usually all about miracle bullshit endings. But that's not a bad thing. You kinda need them, or we'd be fucked six ways from sunday each and every time.

I initially had it spoilt due to the FEMC on the wiki noting "age of death" why was age there? look okay I don't need to spell it out do I? so thanks Megami Tensei wiki for ruining the fucking ending.
