Man. Seeing the Aeon and Jester bios here just reminded me how amazing the Faith and Councilor Confidants in Royal are, I am really excited for those. ESPECIALLY Councilor, that one is flat-out one of my all-time favorite ones in the series (I struggle to say it's my absolute favorite, because P3 Sun and P4 Emperor here exist)

Councillor is really good. Faith I find decent but there's a few aspects to it I'm not a huge fan of and I didn't end up liking its romance route. I've also noticed a lot of the Faith character's more... excessive fans have a tendency to really demonize a certain character in her backstory, even though she makes it clear she didn't hate or resent him for what he did.

Making a separate comment but man, I really love the transition of how one card became another, one of the editing highlights in the series for me. Anyways the real reason for why I made this separate comment (and why it's 3 hours apart from the first comment I made) is that I have been trying for over a year to create a story that has heavy tarot motifs in it, especially with its symbolism. Considering that the Persona series as a whole is one of my biggest inspirations for it, I have chosen to restart concepts for this story by well going back to the roots of what each card means so I can have a representative for each card for the empty being's journey so this video came out at the perfect time for me. As such...I may have used this video to take notes, also that I had to take 2 breaks in the process for an irl thing or two. Therefore, I found this video to be highly informative and the note taking process may eventually hopefully lead to having a better handwriting, though I doubt it, as it has always been somewhat horrible but at least its readable as long as I don't write too fast. Horrible as in where I used to get "I can't read this" on my homework assignments back in high school, fun times... Forgive the lengthy comment, I tend to ramble on so I had attempted to tame myself on making this second comment just to get to the point, otherwise it would have went on for much longer than it presently is.

I'm going to also have to talk about each P5 Confidant's unique bonuses, so we'll see how much time I have for other talk there. I know a few Arcanas changed a bit gameplay-wise, e.g Sun Personas in P5 tend to focus on Nuclear. (Which makes sense)

Actually playing through Persona 4 Golden myself, great guide! While I personally find that max social link/confidant runs to be missing the point of the limited time you have available to you, I find it impressive nonetheless that people do these types of challenges. And it isn't as simple as "follow the guide, never question it--", you have to be quite skilled to get past some of the challenges the game throws your way.

Especially beating dungeons in one day. Yukiko's is incredibly brutal this way, even if you know about the SP drinks from vending machines. Kanji's is also pretty tough. Once you rank up Rise though you never need to worry about SP again, as her post-battle SP regen is usually more than you spend on battles, so you "make a profit" on SP every fight. It's part of why, despite Futaba's ridiculous abilities in P5, I actually think Rise is a more broken navigator.

Oh, even when you aren't doing it in a day, Yukiko's dungeon is hellish to get through, at least in my experience not doing all social link runs. It doesn't help that every few hours or so of P4, I have to take a break because I'm being forced to face a facet of my personality, which I feel is the point, haha

Again, as someone who's only played the mainline SMTs it's really interesting to see how Persona handles the demons/personas, though in this case with the grouping. I really like how they really go for symbolic and metaphorical connections in these games for the groups and try to add some extra meaning about the personas you use. While I have no qualms with how mainline SMT groups its demons (generally; Small gripes here and there but nothing urgent that needs to be fixed for now), I like the extra effort placed in here instead of just grouping all these demons together since they can be seen as "brutes." And of course I really enjoyed your discussion of the symbolic and metaphorical meanings of these arcana and how they tie into the characters the game attaches them too. I had already highly regarded your work for how informative it was, but these discussions of these arcana and how they tie into all of these characters was amazing and made me really appreciate all of these details the devs carefully crafted that are often overlooked by most people (myself included sadly plenty of times) as well as raising said high regards even more. It's going to be one of the best parts when you cover P5R since when it comes to people praising the game, it's 99.5% of the time all the flashy elements like its style, the music, and mostly the surface level stuff; I been wanting to see what lies below that surface and we have you as the best person to show the stuff that lies deep below. In other news, not as much on my end. Been playing something, but I want to see how it pans out before I talk about it. Will probably continue more of NG+ in the one game I've been playing, but I also might resume going back to the long overdue job of 100% Falsebound Kingdom, finish up my old second run of Shining Force 1 and then start playing Super Mode of SF2 (help), and maybe work on other backlog projects (like Nocturne Hard and Ogre Battle 64). The first two I'd like to at least complete since while nothing "new" is coming out in terms of games, my favorite game of 2020, Monster Sanctuary, is dropping its new free DLC expansion, the Lost World, on June 30th. Not only is the expansion going to have a good amount to it, I haven't touched the game since roughly late January, early of February of 2021 and since then, there's been A LOT of changes made since I was there (customizable player character, Keeper Duels that are super bosses (also help since in-game Keeper Duels in Monster Sanctuary are SCARILY difficult and I fear most Keeper Duels than I do infamous SMT bosses in the games I've played), updated sprites that make some monsters look far better and have so much charm, and probably more than I'm unaware of. Not sure whether to do an entirely new playthrough or jump into the new content with my original file when the update drops, but holy hell I'm excited we finally get a release date for the expansion. Spoiler Warning for THIS video below... Also how can I not comment on the transition for the MASSIVE SPOILER Social Link and how it changes from the original SL bio to the new/true form of that link? Seriously, that's probably my favorite bit of editing you've done on the channel. Fits the mood so perfectly and still gives me chills to this day. Really, you did on a great job on that Klingy! End.

I say that I prefer the Arcana system for organizing the demons over the races. Persona 1 is a bit weird in that regard since it uses both of those systems with the Arcana being used for the Personas and the races being used for the demons you fight. Speaking of Brutes, despite the name, in Persona 1 they focus on Hama skills as well as status healing and reviving skills. That is also what I am looking forward to for P5R since I may add to my enjoyment to the plot and characters if I know the meanings behind them. Going over the arcana as well as how they relate to the characters is something I would also like to do in my Persona 1 LP as well. Looks like you are spoilt for choice for what games you can play. I am happy to hear that you are excited about Monster Sanctuary's DLC too. As for me, I have played a good amount of Cold Steel. I beat Chapter 1 and it ended in a battle with a giant monkey and that battle gave Rean his S Craft. I did have a good time on this field study mainly because of how strong and fun Laura and Alisa were to use. Now Chapter 2 and I have already made a good start on it. I have a new party to work with consisting of Emma and Jusis who are both powerful Arts users especially Jusis due to the free ATS buff he gets from his Master Quartz. Machias is a tanky supporter with high defence as well as two useful crafts with the first lowering defence and the second healing HP and EP which is great for this Arts heavy party. Finally Fie who is a speedy dodge tank which some interesting crafts and her design makes her look Micaiah and Sothe's daughter. Rean is also no slouch either and he was also the first character that I opened all of the slots for. The main thing I did today was grind money to get new weapons for everyone and then I fought the next miniboss which ended with Rean being unable to battle for a bit due to story reasons so it is up to the rest to complete all the tasks left for this day of the field study.

@@BerserkerRohan Again, I have no gripes with demon races mostly, but I do like how the arcana system gives extra meaning to the demons. I guess it kind of makes sense in P1 since they're not your characters' respective persona as they're fighting you, but it is odd. That's utterly bizarre. Now I'm imagining the most passive aggressive Kin-Ki who's trying to heal his team mates. Xp Yep, that part of the LP is going to be great. If you try to do something similar for P1, best of luck. Not exactly sure if I can consider myself spoiled since most I see as finishing up unfinished business, but for the Monster Sanctuary DLC, you can for that. Xp Happy to hear you've been making great progress in Cold Steel. Sounds like all of the party members you got as well sound like fine teammates to have as well (also looked up Fie and holy hell you weren't kidding; She could easily pass for their kid). @@jaredfayette2567 To my knowledge, Persona 1 is the only game that mixes the two like that. Looking up, some of the brutes can be benevolent spirits but most of them are just demons. I probably won't go into as much detail since I am less knowledge but I will try my best. That probably makes more sense so if you do decide to finish that unfinished business, I wish you the best of luck. The Fie was something I was told about and I thought it was cool. I wasn't sure if I was going to like a cast that constantly changes but it does spice up the gameplay since I need to think about how best to use everyone. I do feel very comfortable now but I will be careful if things decide to get harder.

When it comes to how you’ve listed the common trends of the Arcana’s Personas I wonder how your going to talk about that in Persona 5 Bios as I tried to do so once and found that even the normally more simple Arcanas had themes to their abilities but tended to be quite broad and branch out a lot more, for example Magician had a lot of mixed attackers but no heavy focus on one specific element like it would here. Thinking about it before the playthrough I had never actually realised the cultural critique of Japan’s school culture that Tower was involved in or Shu’s cheating in Rank 6 had a fair amount of foreshadowing, and the former didn’t come from ignorance of Japan’s culture but was something that I seemingly ignored for the longest time. When it comes to Marie’s Arcana being Tsundere in terms of skills it learns something interesting os that her Arcaan is mostly made up of Personas from Persona 3 who didn’t make it back in Persona 4’s base game, only the first Personas and the Ultimate aren’t and they tend to keep their Persona 3 stats, resistances and skills as much as possible, so she’s ailment heavy early on and buffs and healing later when her Arcana is heavily based on pre existing design decisions that weren’t being considered at the time. Upon hearing the Hunger Bio again it weirds me out that Hunger replaces Strength but pretty much has the opposite idea, Strength can but not always involves control and restraint of one’s actions and Hunger as basis involves removing restrain and control of oneself

P4's Tower is s SUPER underrated SL in my opinion, it wasn't until the playthrough that I realized it was a very bold statement to make towards Japan's tutoring culture and how badly it affects kids. P5R's new arcanas don't work like Golden's, in Golden all new Personas belong to the Aeon and Jester while P5R's new ones are spread across other Arcana, and Councillor and Faith even "poach" Personas formally belonging to different ones, like Unicorn going from Hierophant to Faith or Decarabia from Fool to Councillor.

@@BigKlingy How Golden handles new Personas in a third version is in hindsight a massive outlier considering that FES and Royal both change which Arcana’s a fair amount of Personas now go into, change levels, skills learned a few times as well as sprinkling new options amongst those Arcanas. Albeit I think FES does it more than Royal does. And talking about that since I’ve played both Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal a lot of the changes are ones I actively remember, especially Lucifer, Cu Chulainn, Kohryu, Scathatch and Surt changing a fair bit while I’m less actively aware of the Persona 3 FES changes, the only one I can actively remember is Byakko being replaced by Yunlungir as Ultimate Temperance and Metatron being in Sun originally since I’ve never played the original and it’s very hard to find footage of Persona 3, and most of the footage I’ve seen is of boss fights rather than the entire game.

Interesting... Some SLs can be scripted like the Investigation Team & someone else's SL & some SLs can happened between whenever U had the time... 🤔 I see... Also, "The Arcana is the means by which all is revealed" except few new ones or whatever. (Not P3 tho since it's P4.) Even few other SLs can be Exclusives only in Golden version.

Glad you are, I'm looking forward to doing them too. I've pretty much completed all of those, though the DLC Personas might need a bit more work. There's no clear official art of the Picaro Personas, which is an issue.

I'm still not sure if this will actually happen, although Fire Emblem's doing it. (Even it has its issues, see Three Houses having 5 same-sex female options at launch and only ONE for males*) Persona 2 did have a gay option though. I'm personally not of the mind that the lack of one detracts from a game's quality, but then again I don't play Persona for the dating sim. It would be nice to have one for people who want it, just as long as it's handled well. *Tangent: I've noticed that barely anyone talks about Female Byleth x Mercedes and I'm not sure why. She's a pretty decent character and when I saw their supports I thought they were nice. But if you look at the fanbase, you'd never think she was even an option.

I agree I just wanted to see a gay option and see done well. It just with persona 4 and 5 bad gay jokes, I would to see some balance. Well given that the other lesbians option off byleth are Rhea, edelgard, and Dorothea(talk about character), yeah she does get overshadow, heck Mercedes is more ship with Annette then blyeth.

Yeah, exactly. When Mercedes is in a same-sex ship it's usually with Annette, even though it's not technically an option in-game. (I forget if their ending is ambiguously romantic like Dorothea/Manuela is) I'd like to see FE have same-sex pairings outside of Avatars in the future.

My first playthrough was on vanilla ps2 a 100% social link run And when it was october and i realized i gave The huge fish to the cat i got from tanaka and almost killed The run bc it messed up my what to do list I am going for golden and i am happy they rework it

Golden thankfully gives you a lot more free time for Social Links. The new months are more than enough makeup time for any mistakes you make. Just as long as you focus on Hierophant and Justice. (While Golden gives you more time with them in February, it's only about 3 days) The cat quests are pretty annoying though, since the cat's stomach is a black hole. It takes like 20 regular fish and multiple Guardians to finish the last one.

Overall, I found that P4 has some really good Social Links in terms of their stories, maybe even better than P5's Confidants but it is hard to say. I haven't seen P3's Social Links yet which is why I haven't mentioned them. Looking at the Personas for each Arcana reminds me of how weird the Persona distribution in P1 is since that game mainly has Personas for the Arcana of your party members and there are much less Personas for the Arcana that don't match the party members. Thinking about it too, I would like to talk about the Arcana in my P1 playthrough and it will be fun to see how they relate to the characters of each Arcana.

I liked all slinks when i played p4g except temperance but theres worse. I dont know much about p5 and p3 slinks as i havent played those games but ive heard that the p3 ones are less good but thats just the opinion of one youtuber. Yeah, there are 3 fool personas and 2 tower personas so not a lot. Also, you cant really end up with a tower arcana persona unless you grind much or have reiji and equip that persona despite that being weird.

@@B_A-tr Janus gets both Eternal Black and White making it very versatile as Eternal White can kill Fallen and Night demons and Eternal Black can kill Divine Demons. The limiting factor is that only females can equip Janus which might be difficult in SEBEC depending on your party.

Well after 1 and half month or so, I finally finish smt if, it is a interesting, as some things would be be expanded in the persona series. LIke there one boss fight that basically facing the protagonist's shadow and the final level is the mind of the main villian. well off to do persona 1

I find it kind of annoying that only one of the partner choices get the true final dungeon and the villain's full backstory, which essentially means no-one ever talks about the other routes. (Except Akira, who at least has radically different dungeons)

I'll just mention: maybe next time, post the story on something like Archive Of Our Own and post a link to it, instead of posting chapters directly in the KZbin comments for videos it's not relevant to. I allowed it for the FF1 playthrough since the whole point of that game is to come up with your own story about the party, but when you kept posting it during Sky the 3rd a lot of people mistook you for a spammer, and people coming to the videos for Sky the 3rd were often confused. It's great you're writing like this, but there are better places to post stories than KZbin comments.

Story-wise. I hate how, to go platonic, you have to not only reject her, but leave her alone in a classroom while she's depressed. And that's how Rank 10 ends. It's such a sour note to end the Social Link on.

@@BigKlingy I absolutly see it. Pretty much every other Social link you know them, help them with a sedback to go forward passing by while doing something else. So it going either way is natural. But with her you literally went to spend many days of your live in the hospital exclusively to give her emotional support. Just sudenly rejecting her at the end is such an anti-climax I understand why you said it sucks (when I played the game I had to romance her for that exact reason so I didn't knew what happens in the platonic route).

@@Noahs_Chair I'm glad P5 made every romance route start at Rank 9, keeping consistency across all of them. But even Ai on her "bad route" gets more closure in Rank 10 than Yumi's platonic route does. It's just such a weird way to end a Social Link.

Fun fact about Ai(moon). If you choose false romance on rank 6, you're suck with it to rank 9. Choose a wrong answer and you're forever stuck on rank 9 for the rest of the playthrough and EVERY consecutive playthrough. You can never max her out if you do so.

That's Breaking the Moon Social Link. It's a holdover from Persona 3, where every SL could break. In P4 only Moon can, and only on the false romance route. (But it's pretty easy to avoid: to break it you have to flat-out tell her you don't want to be friends anymore) I know about the Fox, though it's weird the game never tells you about it. I covered all the fox costumes in my playthrough.

@@BigKlingy ok. For me to get all costumes I just need to romance Naoto. Got all Fox, purchasable and event specific ones. And about false romance I went through it and became friends later on (real romance with Rise).
