I want to take a moment to appreciate the symbolism of Satanael being the ultimate persona of the protag. We all know Satan in SMT universe is not a rebellious chaos dude but one of God's top underlings, the guy tasked with pass Judgement to others, and for fans who remember SMT 2, the guy who is even willing to shoot both humanity and god in the face to pursue what it sees as true justice. They could have gone the easy way and make a new design of Lucifer as the ultimate persona, but they decided to use Satanael, the rebellious demon who eventually went back and worked for law as a judge. So what does that say for our protag? Well, he is pretty clearly stated to not gonna be a phantom theif forever, but the desire to reform society seems to truly be there, specially if we take into consideration his interactions with politician confidant man. Not to mention, a big chunk of the fandom expects him to become in charge of some public service position eventually (though no idea if Atlus confirmed or denied that). The demon rebel, casted aside by the world and stigmatized as evil, who would defy the norms and later was swallowed back into the system and worked from inside to make it better. Sounds indeed a good end for Joker

Lucifer Aizhlumendei Well he was only demonized by Yaldabaoth in Gostnissim Satanael was a servant of the True God that created the universe and mankind's souls Yaldabaoth only crated the phisical plane as a result of this he was sent in the form of the Serpent to give man the power to rebel agenst the false god just as they did here. Also funny thing is Satan and Lucifer are mixed up in SMT Lucifer was the devil's name when he was working for God as his arbiter and Satan is the title he was given upon becomeing the devil while in SMT they're 2 separate entities Lucifer as the rebelling fallen angel and Satan as the Arbiter. There's at least 8 different interpretations of the Devil in SMT but Sataneal is one of the more interesting ones.

so, all together, this game is a combination of the following 1. xenoblade chronicles 2. metal gear rising: revengance 3. litteraly any christmas movie that involves the villian turning out to be the good guy (because satan saved christmas, not yaldabaoth) 4. a combination of buddihts beliefs, combined with medival legends, combined with all forms of mythology 5. every other persona game but with their mechanics improved. 6. JoJo's Bizzare Adventure and 7. Asura's wrath this is a damn, big, and great game

mmm...yes and no. Philemon is based off the figure of the same name in Carl Gustav Jung's Red book. A spirit guide to humanity of sorts. He's pretty powerful, but he's not capitol God like Yaldaboath is. Unfortunately, Atlus seems to like shoving Philemon (and his opposite, Nyarlathotep) into the sidelines and pretending they don't really exist. A crying shame. Especially since this boss is the closest we've gotten to Nyarl since then.

Yaldabaoth(Ialdabaoth) = the name means "False God" , same deity as "Demiurge") In Gnostic , he is something that has been created by higher being, then he create the material world and claim he is "Only God and no more higher". (Anyway.. in gnostic, Ialdabaoth isn't Jesus's father. Since Jesus is sent by Highest Deity.) That's what I heard.

Truth be told, I'm not sure the Grail really thought his plan out in full. He blatantly rigged the game in Aketchi's favor by giving him a head start and WAAAAAY more powers, did nothing about the drugs that nearly caused Joker to forget his gambit, and when Joker still won, blamed him for society's apathy... and hates the masses despite being created by the collective will (which shouldn't technically be possible unless the majority of humanity is inherently suicidal). All in all, the Grail seems to be more like a Cognition of God rather than being the real thing here... still powerful and able to act on its own, but woefully ignorant of the big picture, just like the cognitive Aketchi was.
