Persona 5: Why You Need to Branch Out

You need to branch out into different games. It’s as simple as that. If not it could just end up with you leaving the entire gaming space. This same statement can apply to many different mediums and genres, but not as many people in the gaming community seem to understand this.
I am a Nintendrone. Am obsessive fan over every piece of Nintendo media, but after playing Persona 5: Royal, I learned that it's healthy to branch out into different genres and types of games, because if you don't it could end up with you eventually getting bored of playing video games in general.
This isn't a Super Mario, Mario & Luigi, Switch 2, nor Paper Mario video. I hope my current viewers still give this video a chance as it's easily the most effort I've ever put into one. I really, really hope you enjoyed this video.

oh i thought this was a video telling personas 5 fans to stop playing persona 5 and start playing shin megami tensei but this is good too i guess. btw, lizardry play nocturne or strange journey, or even shin megami tensei 4 i promise you... it's worth your time.

I play a pretty varied amount of genres. There are still some I avoid, but those are in the minority. Similarly to you, I started P5R after my friends badgered me to play it. I eventually caved in. P5R also brought me back into turn-based JRPGs after I got burned by Pokemon. Now I'm a huge Persona fan.

People latch on to nieches because they are unique and make you feel like you stand out more than others but when faced to try something new most are reluctant at least at first even though they would want the same for the other with their nieche. We are all guilty of this

I got Persona 5 and put off playing it for months because it was slow at the start. Then I went back to playing the same old games again. After watching a KZbin video briefly mention the game, I got the urge to pick it back up, and it became my favorite game of all time. I got so invested into the game that when Royal was coming out, I pre ordered the collector's edition. Platinumed both 5 and 5R, then bought Persona Q2 and Strikers. In doing so, though, I burnt myself out with the series. I fell back into playing the same old games over and over, put off even touching Tactica. Then a friend said I'd like a game series called Alan Wake. Finally, I got out of my comfort zone and played something new again, and I got so invested. It became one of my favorite games, and it opened me up to enjoying new games again. I recently got a couple of friends into Persona 5, and they got really into it, so now they're trying to get me back into the games again. Trying out Alan Wake finally broke me out of the game cycle I got so bored of. Picking up something new to you like Persona 5 is very important if you want to keep enjoying gaming as a hobby. Without a new game to go through, I feel like I'm wasting my time playing games I've beaten over and over again. I'm glad you enjoyed Persona 5 as much as you did.

After seeing The 2nd trailer for TOK I went to go play Bug Fables and absolutely loved it. Right now I'm looking forward to Rugrats:Adventures in Gameland and Big boy Boxing, one of which is an Nes-styled platformer.

I’ve been a fan of the Persona series since I played P3P back in 2020, I never got around to beating it or Persona 4, but after picking up Persona 5 for the first time last week I’ve been more invested than P3 and P4 combined.

Ren is objectively a better name because there's a new character in Persona 5 Strikers called Akira Konoe.

@theozziepotato it’s almost like the two characters are supposed to parallel each other… the new character was likely named akira for that reason, giving even more proof that akira is also the protagonist’s canon name

9:48 This is absolute facts. It frustrates me so much when people complain gaming is boring now when in the background they have something like Team Fortress 2 gameplay. Which they probably have 1000 hours in. Quite recently I tried Star Ocean 2 not knowing what to expect. It wasn't really my cup of tea, but I'm still glad I tried it!

I never like Jpg till i beat FF4 Summers ago then i got addicted to this genre, and it felt like each game i beat was teaching me something FF4 - Jrpgs are fun Earthbound- Equips Persona 5 - Buffs and Debuffs And now I gotten really good at jrpgs

Great video! Persona 5 is my favorite game of all time, so I'm glad that you enjoyed it so much. You bring up a really good point here, as I'm also trying to branch out with the games that I play so I don't get tired of games. Can't wait to see what you do in 2024!

Back then I used to only stick with Mario, Pokemon, Kirby, Smash, and the Wii series, barely branching out; but once the Switch released I tried out other Nintendo series like Zelda, Metroid, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, and Pikmin. I also got a PS4 for Christmas that year and got into so many non-Nintendo series like God of War, Resident Evil, Persona, Danganronpa, Final Fantasy, etc. It’s important to branch out in order to have fresh experiences and not view all of gaming as slop or something

Very happy to watch this! The moment where I branched out finally from Mario games is when I finally played Monster Hunter World. Such a masterpiece of a game and spend 800 hours on it. The Souls series too are just amazing! Best experiences despite my taste in games.

Can’t agree more with this. Branching out is super important and I hate it when I see people like my brother who are so one note with their libraries. In terms of persona 5, I got to the third palace, but I feel like the game just was dragging and got boring for me. It was fun for the first 25 hours but the combat got too samey for more of the grinding that I probably didn’t need to do but was doing anyway cuz I like being op.

I love persona serie but after played P5 vanilla the last 20-25 hours i just wanted to fast forward to see the end. Forget about playing the different versions that later came up.

Are you gonna get persona 3 reload? Hella hyped for it and pre ordered it lol. Big fan of the series as I have played 5r, 5s, 4 golden, the first game on the psp, and playing the second game lol. Also if your looking for more game to play, I highly… HIGHLY recommend Yakuza series (especially 0), they are so fucking amazing that it’s crazy.

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one in the same situation. My games library was 90% Nintendo aswell and most of it were only Mario/Kirby games, but first with BOTW/TOTK and then with P5R my gaming interests have never been so wide, and especially Persona made me realize how many great games there are to play instead of just sticking to Nintendo. Now I'm looking forward to play games like P3 Reload, Omori, Ace Attorney and so much more. Nice video man, keep it up :) (P.S. Yoshizawa best girl in videogame history)

I think this video is a breath of fresh air for those who are waiting impatiently for their next big thing. After playing so many Final Fantasy games, I put aside FFXIV to play Dragon Quest Monster: The Dark Prince and I love it! However, this year I will be playing a bunch of games that I really am not sure I will like due to taking part in a forum challenge, and some of these are crazy difficult: Tales of Arise, Monster Hunter Rise, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Enter the Gungeon and Returnal. Wish me luck. ;)

P5 is surprisingly the only RPG I didn’t really enjoy. Great game, but not for me. Even if I praise it like crazy, the music kinda carries it.

I actually recently finished Persona 4 Golden because of P5R, and I really enjoyed it too Persona 3 Reload coming out next month has me excited In what was a pretty similar boat to you, I really need to play more non-Nintendo games, I plan to play games like Spider-Man PS4 and God of War 2018 sometime this year

Honestly, you should give Elden Ring a try if you really want to expand your horizons. I know a lot of people assume it's a super difficult game, but it's really not. It's just stern, but it gives you all the tools and freedom you need to tackle the problem in the way you see fit

Honestly I would say persona 5 has very little grinding even on higher difficulties at least for a normal playthrough Most of your fights are random encounters as you progress so unless you plan to max a persona or hunt for specific ones you aren’t running around waiting for respawns even on the hardest difficulty Maybe it’s just how I define grinding but I typically find assuming you don’t skip past everything your kept pretty on par with the fights when taking on the palace especially if you decide to explore mementos as you progress (disregarding the stamps since those will artificially increase your encounters as you go up and down hopeing for them to spawn Plus when you get powerful enough you can skip a lot of grinding with the reaper either with vanillas despair cheese if brute forcing it after a certain point (I suggest third semester)

I bought P5 Royal last October and finished it April this year. I played it normal as I normally put that for my first time playthrough for (J)RPGs and I did not really have to grind that much. (Spoilers kinda for new people) I really hated the final boss in Okumura's palace. Unfortunately I did not get the true ending so I'm currently doing a NG+ playthrough of the game

This is an inoffensive video, but it’s really funny to me because almost every KZbinr I’ve seen play Persona 5 has became completely obsessed with it and only it, constantly bringing it up in their videos and talking about how they play it like 5 times a year… they never even consider branching out to other Shin Megami Tensei or even just Persona games, only sticking to the one game that they’re familiar with. You have to continue branching out after you first branch out.

@@sableye126 i actually played p3re when it launched and honestly enjoyed it better then p5r, and currently getting through p4g (which i do enjoy the more cozy vibe of but prefer 3 and 5 more) i do plan on trying out vengeance once it’s on a sale this holiday, but i do also plan on getting metaphor at launch as that interests me a lot more
