What a great tag, a real window into someone’s earlier life and influences. Reading was my escape, still is, books and music. My way to exit the now and get a break from often disturbing reality. As a child I would devour whatever I could get my hands on. Luckily someone gave away boxes upon boxes of kids books, and comics and annuals. I found the boxes in the attic above our garage, and would sneak there to read each one over and over. I wasnt allowed to bring them into the house. It fired an interest in fairy tales, history and fantasy. In the house I found Readers Digest abridged books and so many thrillers. My parents always seemed to have a few about so I would sneak them away as something to read. Eventually my parents realised I loved to read ad for my 18th bought me a box set of LOTR and The Hobbit, and set off a love of collecting books. Adult hood post uni was very exciting with money to buy books, and wait patiently for each new book in a series.

Looooved this trip down memory lane!! Oh gosh Kris, I remember watching the movie of Where the Wild Things Are and 8y/o Esmay absolutely LOST it when the guy had to leave the monsters on the island behind again at the end, like... we are talking full-on sobbing and inconsolable hahaha. Thanks for the reliving of that trauma 🤣 Also, I really need to read Misery! And allll the love for Tide Child and Dorian Gray, you have impeccable tastes hehehe 🤩

Tigers Eye sounds amazing. For an adult carpet story with fantasy and horror elements a fav book is Weaveworld by Clive Barker. The original book cover is just stunning too

I have Weaveworld somewhere I’ll have to give it a try! Glad I wasn’t the only kid sneaking around to find books 🤣 I remember the readers digest! What a blast from the past. Absolutely, having an income for book buying was a wonderful moment!!

Ahhh!! So excited to watch this! Thank you for doing my tag…I’m excited to learn more about you :) Omg I LOVED stellaluna!! I feel like little Taylor would also have been enamored by Rowan of Rin. You’ve made me want to run away and read A Tale of Time City! I could use a cozy found family story 🥹 Loved seeing you realize the effects on your current writing in real time ✨ “I like books that’s why I talk about books that I like” 😂😂 felt that Love that Jane Green found you at the time you needed it 💕 As if I needed another reason to pick up Tide Child…this is it!! I didn’t know you loved Dorian! Read it last year and also really enjoyed it 🥰

Thank you for the fantastic tag! I had a fun time and .. self revelations the whole way through 🤣 I am genuinely shocked that more people have read Stellaluna than I realised! A Tale of Time City is pure magic (I feel like most of Diana Wayne Jones is though ✨)

Animalia was this weird unicorn of a book for me-I was also drawn to it but didn’t really ‘get’ it, and it was always checked out from the library so I just gave up 😅 My Goosebumps book collection was MASSIVE. In my brain, those books are associated with long car rides. I’ll get around to The Picture of Dorian Gray at some point! I think maybe soon. I want to talk about it with you!
