Actually... This is one of them "read between the lines" videos. It would be in poor taste, and a real "eyebrow raiser", if Paul H. were to discuss blowing somebody's head away. Personally, I would never discuss such a thing. At the outset, I thought the pumpkin menace was some humorous & cagey reference to the halfwitted "orange man bad" disorder, but as the video progressed I understood that it was about heads in general, and for the sake of further discussion, we'll call it "The Annoying Grizzly Bear", who had just ripped away your tent in the night, and you have to neutralize the bear the most effective and quickest way possible, with the first shot, as time would be a pressing factor. It seems that at very close range, like to the end of your sleeping bag, any magnum handgun or shotgun or large caliber, high powered rifle could be relied upon to do sufficient damage to the head of a bear, but if you are in Grizzly country, be certain to not have a Taurus Judge revolver or other such underpowered POS handy, as the gun you reach for in the night.

Just to clarify: for soda filled pumpkins at any distance, any high power round will do. For air headed pumpkins outside of maybe 6-7 yards a shotgun with birdshot is best. An air headed pumpkin at close quarters is best dispatched with a bladed weapon. Do I have that correct? Only one day to go, so I need to prepare.

Everyone wants to joke about the Orange Menace because they don’t know any of the victims that have been affected by it. Well a horde of jackolanterns had been bingeing on orange soda and assaulted my little sister one Halloween night when she was out trick or treating. Luckily I was carrying my 1911 loaded with Hornady Critical Defense 185 grain ballistic tips. I dispatched 5 of the assailants which caused the other 3 to flee. Always be prepared because you never know when the Orange Menace will strike.

Another thing that's important to keep in mind is once you have the pumpkin's brains scattered all over the ground you need to burn the seeds. Otherwise you'll end up surrounded by the orange scourge before you know it (like the mop in Fantasia). I find placing them on a tray in the oven at 350 with some sprinkled salt proves to be most effective.

On the anniversary of the video my friend and I repeated Paul’s tests with various calibers and firearms. I added a few calibers to round out results. All in the interest of science mind you. Even in southern New England, where the orange menace and anti-gun menace is even more dangerous, the results are the same. But choice of firearms is even more critical and somewhat more regulated. One issue, fall foliage in New England gives the pumpkins better camouflage. The pumpkins know this, and use it to their advantage. You need to stay vigilant. You have fewer shots as they sneak up quickly. 357 with Soda was quite effective . Semi jacketed soft tips did have the desired one shot stop. 10mm out of a 1911 was equally effective. Underwood jacketed hollowpoint had excellent results plus there 9+1 rounds in single action which in Nee England is critical. Mossberg 500 with slugs and bird were both good. 4, 00, 1 buck equally impressive. One of us had a pre healy ar 556. Both 223, and 556 worked well. Empty pumpkins, not so much. 9mm hollow points in 115, 124, and 147 were very good with soda but only provided wounds for unengorged pumpkins. It is important to note that no pumpkins were harmed prior to our testing.

Paul, thanks for this! I am going to consider this as my birthday present from you, because I will be 58 on the 31st. I haven't laughed so hard in quite a while. Thank you! I needed this! And you can knock around my Judge all you want. I'm still gonna carry it. But When I do carry it outside the house, it is for two purposes and two different loads. I often carry it to the woods and around my house loaded with #4 buckshot, because I don't like snakes. And I sometimes carry it to the city because IF someone of thinner skin sees a stainless revolver, they don't react the same as when they see a black polymer or steel autoloader. And when I carry it to the city it is loaded with .45 LC JHP..... because I don't like snakes.
